It seems like Buddy Holly is indeed alive and well, in more ways than one (maybe even more than Gary Busey these days). A little while ago, we wrote about the new Jon Heder flick that is in production titled Alive And Well based on Bradley Denton.s excellent sci-fi adventure novel Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede. We.d also like to update you on a documentary chronicling Holly.s last tour (The Winter Dance Party tour) in 1959, where he tragically died...

I think it's time we all took another look at Mr. Henry F. Potter, the heartless businessman played by Lionel Barrymore in the 1946 classic holiday film It's a Wonderful Life. Yes, he's a crotchety old slumlord who wants to buy out the Bailey Building and Loan and not let "lazy rabble" have mortgages, but in the current economy, you have to wonder if some of his policies made sense. Adam Gopnik in The New Yorker points out that Jimmy Stewart's George Bailey was handing out a lot of sub-prime mortgages to bad risks, which is maybe not something we'd consider praiseworthy these days.
In addition, as I grow older, the hypothetical Pottersville doesn't look all that bad to me -- it's not nearly as lurid as Vegas or the French Quarter. Perhaps I've been prejudiced by one of my favorite short stories, Bradley Denton's "The Calvin Coolidge Home for Dead Comedians,...

-- Huge news. Bryan Singer is now confirmed to be directing a silver screen reboot of "Battlestar Galactica." This was reported earlier by Hitfix, but the news has now been confirmed. Fans of Ron Moore's take on the franchise shouldn't rise up in angry protest just yet. The project is literally at ground zero right now. With Singer on board, now it's time to find a writer, figure out the course such a project might take. Might Ron Moore step in to deliver a script? Anything is possible. We shall see, fellow "BSG" fans. (Variety)

Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder will topline the comedic science fiction film Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede. Based on Bradley Denton's 1991 novel, Heder will play a geek named Oliver Vale who has cosmic weirdness intrude into his life when the visage of the legendary rock-and-roll singer appears to Oliver on his TV set and only he can see Buddy Holly. Things get more strange when aliens chase after Oliver because of his budding friendship to Buddy.
Robert Rugan is directing the movie from his own script.
Heder has been keep his profile low but he's also been busy working. He's got a supporting part in the romantic comedy When in Rome but that's not slated for release until 2010. He's also been appearing in a series of short online segments called Woke Up Dead and has been developing a sitcom for Comedy Central with Will Ferrell's production company.

Combine a comedic, out-of-print science fiction book, and the uncertain star power of Jon Heder, and what will you get? I'm not sure, but I don't think it'll be Moon.
Variety reports that Heder has nabbed the lead in Buddy Holly is Alive and Well on Ganymede, an adaptation of Bradley Denton's 1992 sci-fi novel that'll be directed by newcomer Robert Rugan. I'll confess right up front that I vaguely remember the title, but never read it. But since the book is out of print, I'm not going to be uncool or alone in that club.
The story follows an ordinary man named Oliver Vale, who has his life turned upside down when Buddy Holly takes over all television stations and declares himself not only to be alive (on Ganymede, presumably) but insists that Vale is the only man who can interpret his message. Vale becomes pursued by evil aliens,...

Buddy Holly is alive and well and living on the largest moon in the solar system? He’s living on a moon of Jupiter? Cool beans. Alas, it’s all fiction. Jon Heder, or Napoleon Dynamite to most, has landed the role of Oliver Vale in the adaptation of Bradley Denton’s Sci-Fi comedy about a dude trying to figure out why a presumed dead Buddy Holly is screwing with his life. The Synopsis: “February 3rd, 1959 was the “day the music died.” It was also marked the day when our hero, Oliver Vale, was conceived in the back seat of a car. And from that moment forward, he was raised to fervently believe in personal freedom, UFOs, higher consciousness and, of course, the power of rock n rock. Exactly thirty years from his conception, Oliver turns on the TV only to find Buddy Holly on every channel, broadcasting nonstop from Ganymede,...

We haven't heard much from Jon Heder recently, but don't worry, he's still in the acting biz. In fact, he's set to star in "Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede."
The film is based on Bradley Denton comic sci-fi novel, and Heder will play Oliver Vale, a geek whose life changes when Buddy Holly shows up everywhere on TV and announces Vale is the only one knowing why this is going on.
Variety reports Robert Rugan, who wrote the script, will direct the film. Heder hasn't done anything awesome since his glorious effort in "Napoleon Dynamite."
One of his more recent films was "Mama's Boy," and boy, did that one stink. He will also appear in Mark Steven Johnson's "When in Rome."...

We thought that these two stories yesterday were kinda weird, but Hollywood has outdone itself today: Jon Heder is starring in Buddy Holly Is Alive And Well On Ganymede, a new sci-fi comedy.Based on the novel by Bradley Denton, the story kicks off with a mysterious TV broadcast of Buddy Holly, who claims to be alive and well and living on Ganymede. He names Oliver Vale (Heder), an ordinary geek, as the guy who'll explain the whole thing - only Vale has no idea what's going on, as he finds himself pursued by angry aliens in disguise, a robot dog, an assassin, a motorcycle gang and a televangelist. Shudder: televangelists are scary. The whole thing's being written and directed by Robert Rugan, who previously made the short film Deadly Squids From Beyond Saturn and the feature-length Alice's Misadventures In Wonderland. Clearly, the guy picks his projects on the basis of ace titles,...

Actor Jon "Napoleon Dynamite" Heder will star in an adaptation of author Bradley Denton's sci fi novel, Buddy Holly Is Alive and Well on Ganymede, from a screenplay by Robert "Superfad" Rugan, who will also direct. Molly "Diary Of A Mad Black Woman" Mayeux will produce through her Dahlia Street Films alongside producing partner Michael "Trailer Park Of Terror" Hennessy. Brian Bullock of Caspian Pictures will executive produce the project. Premise of the book follows 'Oliver Vale', an average 'geek' whose life changes when singer 'Buddy Holly' appears on every TV channel, declaring Vale is the only one who understands why this occurs, as he is pursued by 'disfigured' aliens. "Years later, we would look back with longing and say that the music had died. We should have known better." Sneak Peek a TV performance of singer Buddy Holly and the Crickets from 1957...

Jon Heder has signed up to star in Buddy Holly Is Alive And Well On Ganymede. The movie - which is likely to be shortened to just Alive And Well - is based on Bradley Denton's comic sci-fi novel. Alive's story lives up to the promise of its odd title as across the world, every TV goes blank, before returning with an image of dead rocker Buddy Holly (below) looking very much alive and with a message for the world. Seems an unassuming electronics salesman named Oliver Vale (Heder) might have the answer to why Holly is A) alive and...
