South Korean dark comedy “Parasite” has dominated the inaugural World Cinema Awards from the Global Cinemateque organization.
Founded by Jacqueline Lyanga and co-founded by Jasmine Jaisinghani, the World Cinema Awards celebrates the best international cinema of year across 10 categories. Winners were announced Thursday.
“Parasite,” which is nominated for six Academy Awards, won the global narrative trophy with “Portrait of a Lady on Fire” in second and “Pain and Glory” in third. Bong Joon-Ho won the director category for “Parasite” and shared the writing trophy with Han Jin Won. Cinematographer Kyung-pyo Hong, editor Jinmo Yang and composer Jaeil Jung won their categories for their work on “Parasite.”

Legion M, which bills itself as the world’s “first fan-owned entertainment company,” has signed an advisory agreement with Endeavor Content to accelerate development of Legion M’s expanding slate of film and TV projects.
The partnership will plug Legion M into Endeavor Content’s full battery of advisory services, including financing, development, and sales.
Legion M recently acquired Brian Staveley’s fantasy epic The Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne and has recruited Hellboy screenwriter Andrew Cosby to take on the showrunner role for a planned steampunk TV series called Evermor. Legion M also just published its first comic book, Girl With No Name, an Old West tale the company is co-producing as a feature film. At the just-concluded Sundance Film Festival, Legion m launched its next-gen Film Scout app to collect consumer data for analytics that may yield acquisition insights.

Exclusive: Legion M has acquired Brian Staveley’s bestselling fantasy epic The Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne and brought Weta Workshop aboard to begin the visual concept work for a one-hour fantasy drama series that will share the title of the bookshelf trilogy’s first entry: The Emperor’s Blades.
The fan-owned Legion M plans to shop The Emperor’s Blades in early 2020 and join the Hollywood derby of sword-and-sorcery properties that yearn to be the rightful heir to The Game of Thrones and it’s historic international success.
The project is imports expertise from Middle-earth with Executive Producer Rick Porras, co-producer and second-unit director for The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Also Executive Producing: Legion M’s Terri Lubaroff and David Baxter along with writer/producer Robbie Silverman.
Also from Middle-earth: Weta Workshop is on board to create concept artwork for The Emperor’s Blades and continue contributing throughout production.
