Pigeon Shrine FrightFest have unveiled Graham Humphreys’ stand-out poster design for 2024 which marks the 25th anniversary of the UK’s most popular genre festival and the festival’s move to the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. States Humphreys:
Although FrightFest marks its first quarter century, the significant change of venue is this year’s focus. The soaring black Art Deco tower of the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square (completed in 1937) is as iconic to London as the Art Deco Empire State Building in New York. In the 1933 movie ‘King Kong’, the giant primate scaled the Empire State Building. It seems a fitting homage to have our own monster scale the Leicester Square landmark… the top of the world for the king of horror festivals.
FrightFest Co-director Ian Rattray observed:
The move to our new venue after many successful years is bittersweet, but we are excited about the fresh opportunities and experiences it will bring.

New Covid restrictions were a “tipping point”: said organisers.
UK genre festival FrightFest has cancelled its upcoming physical event and will instead make its line-up available online as a result of the ongoing virus crisis.
The festival was due to screen 34 features in London from October 22-25, opening with South Korean zombie thriller Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula.
But after the UK government imposed new Covid-19 restrictions on England, amid a rise in cases of coronavirus, FrightFest organisers stated the event would be “socially, practically and commercially untenable”.

UK genre event Arrow Video FrightFest will go virtual for the second time in 2020 due to the pandemic.
Organizers are cancelling the planned physical event at the Cineworld, Leicester Square due to continuing Covid restrictions which they say make the event “socially, practically and commercially untenable.”
The digital edition will run over the same days, from October 22-25 Oct, and “will combine the in-cinema and proposed Halloween digital event into one online festival experience.”
Organizers tell us they hope to be able to show around 60% of their lineup online and there will be up to 20 new titles from their Halloween digital event. Discussions are ongoing with Studiocanal about the online availability of fest opener Train To Busan Presents: Peninsula (pictured).
The line-up, which will include around forty films, will be announced on Thursday 1 October.
Ian Rattray, co-director, said today: “It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Cineworld event.

Arrow Video FrightFest, in conjunction with UK distribution outfit Blue Finch Films and short film funding company Genera, has launched a new initiative to help finance genre short films. Called Fresh Blood, the partners will look to help finance short form projects in the latter stages of development in the bid to discover new voices in the world of genre filmmaking.
Submissions for the fund started on the 5th June 2019 and filmmakers can apply at www.generafilms.com. The closing date is 31st July and the shortlisted finalists will be announced on 14th August. Shortlisted finalists will then have the opportunity to pitch their project in front of an industry panel during the festival, who will then decide the winning film. This year will be the festival’s 20th edition, with their full line-up to be announced on Thursday 4th July.
Genera’s CEO, Christian Parton commented:
Short films are notoriously hard to fund.
