Amanda Nunes has done it — defeats Mma legend Ronda Rousey!
In a stunning victory, the women’s bantamweight championship belt remains with Nunes. On Friday, the 28-year-old Brazilian, nicknamed “the Lioness,” proved she’s a force to be reckoned with after defending her belt against the once long-reigning champion in an intense fight.
In 48-seconds in the first round, Nunes (14-4) won by Tko to retain the bantamweight title.
It was the third fastest knockout in women’s Ufc bantamweight history, and the second consecutive knockout loss for Rousey (12-2).

In one of Los Angeles Film Festival’s La Muse feature showcase, “Echo Park” is a romance story set in the cultured-rich neighborhood in Los Angeles.

She quickly befriends a British expat who is trying to sell his home to relocate back to London. As summer progresses, a certain romance compels the two to reassess their lives.
The movie is directed by Amanda Marsalis, a photographer who makes her directorial debut.

The "Defiance" Season 1 finale was full of unexpected twists -- what did you think?
We'll admit it. For a second there, we thought Nolan was dead. Luckily, he is not but what has happened to Irisa, embracing her fate and entering into the mines? What iteration do you think we can expect from her character in Season 2?
Meanwhile, Datak Tarr has won the mayoral race against Amanda Rosewater and seems to be merely a puppet for the Earth Republic. Until he slaughters the Colonel. Oops. As the Earth Republic's tanks and troops roll into town in the final frames, we have a feeling that incident will be revisited in Season 2.
And speaking of Datak, we're also quite curious to see what becomes of Kenya Rosewater. We do so love her chemistry with Amanda -- such a nice dichotomy, light and dark, Darla and Isobel.

After months of anticipation and hype, science fiction starved fans will finally get their to experience the world of Defiance.
Set in the not-to-distant future, Defiance introduces an exotically transformed planet Earth, in which seven unique alien races must co-exist peacefully (or as peacefully as a weekly science-fiction set series will allow) with the planet’s surviving humans. Two such humans are sisters played by Julie Benz and Mia Kirshner. Both of whom we had the pleasure of catching up with last week in Toronto to dish on their exciting new series and dabble on a slew of roles that have made them fan favourites.
Firstly, what was it about the Defiance pilot script that attracted you to a role that could presumably last five to seven years?
Julie Benz: What attracted me to the script was how dynamic all the female characters are. They’re extremely complex woman...

Hearing actress Julie Benz describe her new TV series conjures memories of a certain beloved show from long ago: A future post-war society struggling to survive. A gritty new frontier. Powerful, complex females who are good with weapons.
But it’s not the second coming of “Firefly” – it’s Syfy’s “Defiance,” and it’s got all of the above plus seven alien races and an Mmo video game.
In “Defiance,” which premieres April 15th (the game launches two weeks prior), Benz plays Amanda Rosewater, newly-appointed mayor of the town for which the show is named. “She’s a bit in over her head as far as her job goes,” says Benz of her character. “Her heart’s in the right place, but that doesn’t always serve her well.”
“Defiance” is set in what was formerly St. Louis, eight years after a massive war between humans and aliens.

Darla and Hg and Jenny, oh my! Fans of science fiction, post-apocalyptic universes, big aliens, bigger explosions, Julie Benz, Jaime Murray and Mia Kirshner got their first taste of the much-anticipated new series Defiance this week. Syfy released the first trailer for the new TV series which premieres April 2013. Take a look.
The results are supposed to depict Earth nine years after the aliens arrived and created “something new.” The results look a little like Firefly minus the horses and The Fifth Element minus Bruce Willis. The series is set in the new city of Defiance, which appears to be what’s left of St. Louis.
What the first trailer also gives us is the first glimpse of some of our favorite actresses back in action. There’s Benz, the artist formerly known as Darla (and Rita, and the lesbian stripper). She plays Amanda Rosewater,...

Oh sure she’s been in a lot of shows, but the SciFi Mafiosi know her as Darla in Angel and more recently as Stephanie in No Ordinary Family. We are therefore thrilled to tell you that Julie Benz is returning to sci-fi as the female lead in the jointly developing Syfy series and Trion Worlds game Defiance.
The show and online game are set in the future on a war-ravaged Earth where humans and aliens live together. We told you back in January that Grant Bowler (Captain Gault in Lost and Cooter, leader of the werewolf biker gang in True Blood) had been cast as the male lead, boomtown lawman Jeb Nolan. Ms. Benz will be playing Amanda Rosewater, the newly appointed mayor of the town.
Deadline also reports that Tony Curran (Vincent Van Gogh in Doctor Who), Stephanie Leonidas, and Jamie Murray (H.G. Wells in Warehouse 13) have...

A rising stand-up comic is at his microphone, making repeated references to old American sitcoms. While the audience laughs, a lone spectator rises to bellow a sarcastic cackle, a melee in his one-man war against pop culture. The man is Simon Geist in writer-director Dan Zukovic’s 1996 film “The Last Big Thing,” a sardonic portrayal of the independent art scene and modern pop culture in the mid-1990s that has yet to lose its relevance.
Zukovic stars as Simon, a self-proclaimed counter-cultural guru out to expose the superficiality of mainstream entertainment and the hypocrisy of up-and-coming stars. Simon creates a fake magazine, “The Next Big Thing,” as an excuse to confront young artists and criticize their talent and delusions of fame.
