Olivia Mascheroni has joined Verve Ventures. She will be part of a growing independent sales and financing team that is led by Amy Beecroft and Ross Putman.
Mascheroni most recently served as director of Ddvelopment at Madre Venturers, a venture capital firm, and served as executive of new media at The Blacklist prior to that. She has also held positions at both Blumhouse and CAA, where she worked in both the Television and Motion Picture Literary Departments.
“Coming over feels like coming home,” says Mascheroni. “I know so many of the people who work here and admire what they do. And there’s such a great creative approach to things that offers a lot to filmmakers and allows us to make great independent projects.”
Verve’s talent team has quadrupled in size since last year and the film team says it expects to continue expanding.

Screen Media is making the Tony Hale comedy “Eat Wheaties!” a part of its balanced breakfast and has acquired the U.S. rights to the film. The distributor is planning a release in theaters and on demand April 30.
“Eat Wheaties!” is directed by Scott Abramovitch and stars Hale as Sid Straw, a man who desperately tries to prove that he knows a celebrity — in this case, Elizabeth Banks — only for his creepy messages to her to go viral and get him banned from his college reunion. With his life at a crossroads, he sets out to rediscover the best version of himself and hires an inexperienced lawyer to help clear his name.
The story is an adaptation of a 2003 novel by Michael Kun called “The Locklear Letters,” but is modernized for the social media era (and updated from celebrity Heather Locklear). “Eat Wheaties!” also stars Paul Walter Hauser, Danielle Brooks,...

Despite all the disruptions of the past week and change, IndieWire has been spending some of that time proceeding as usual by covering highlights from the SXSW lineup.
While the handful of anticipated studio movies were not made available for review, many of the smaller films looking for distribution were left in an unusual position, seeking attention as they sought to find support from the media and buyers alike.

It’s that time of year again, folks — we’re going to Sundance! Buyers, sellers, filmmakers and film fanatics are heading to Park City, Utah, this week to get a head start on 2019’s hottest independent films.
Like every year since Netflix became public enemy No. 1, the main question is what role the streaming services will have at this year’s festival. How active will the streaming giant be? Who will buy what? How much money will be spent? And after last year’s slow sales market, will we see a healthier landscape overall?
After the big year documentaries had in 2018, many sales agents and buyers predict that docs are here to stay. After all, this year’s festival will feature the Harvey Weinstein doc “Untouchable,” a Michael Jackson exposé “Leaving Neverland,” “Love, Antosha” and many more.

As Hollywood gears up to head to Park City, Utah, for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, one of the questions on everyone’s mind is how busy prominent streamers like Netflix and burgeoning platforms like Apple and Disney+ will be on Main Street.
Two years ago, Netflix and Amazon Studios dominated the indie marketplace with big-dollar acquisitions like “Mudbound” and “The Big Sick.” Last year, however, they had a quieter festival. Netflix picked up a handful of films like “The Kindergarten Teacher,” and acquired others well after the festival, while Amazon bought zilch.
Many indie film buyers and sellers believe that Netflix and Amazon have shifted their focus to their own production as opposed to acquiring titles, but that doesn’t mean the big streamers won’t pounce on a title or two that catches its team’s fancy.

While China’s high-level forays into Hollywood have dominated the conversation all week, the view at ground level at a quiet Afm is of a market in fundamental flux where lower tier companies are locked in a fight for survival.

Verve, a Los Angeles-based talent and literary agency, has announced the creation of Verve Ventures, a global business development initiative within the company that will be run by international sales veteran Amy Beecroft.
Beecroft brings to Verve a wealth of experience, having worked at many of the top companies in the international space during her career: First Look/Overseas Film Group, HBO, GreeneStreet Films, and FilmNation to name a few.
Verve Ventures will focus on creative strategic partnerships in the international and domestic film and television space, including finance and sales, digital distribution, and the development of new technologies, such as Virtual Reality, on a global scale.
“The international landscape has changed drastically in the last five years. With 70% of the box office coming from the international marketplace, savvy foreign distributors, producers, and financiers alike are looking to establish new and strategic partnerships on both the theatrical and television sides,” said Beecroft. “With Verve representing some of the best directors and writers in the business, I feel we are uniquely positioned to find new and exciting ways to expand our clients’ reach into the global marketplace. I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the Verve family.”
Verve partners said in a statement: "With the exponential growth and importance of the overseas marketplace, being able to draw from an international viewpoint will be the best way to serve our clients moving forward and we believe that Amy is the best person to lead the way in this space.”
Verve is a talent and literary agency on the vanguard of client representation. During the past five years, the agency has built an impressive roster of Oscar, Emmy, WGA, BAFTA, and Spirit Award winning writers and directors. Verve’s clients are writing and directing for every major motion picture and television studio and packaging their own passion projects for the large and small screen.
Verve is also the only agency seriously representing content creators in the burgeoning Virtual Reality space and consistently has a major presence on the coveted Black List, including 2014’s number one script, "Cathrine the Great," by Kristina Lauren Anderson. Anderson’s script also topped The Tracking Board’s 2014 Hit List, where Verve is the only agency to show positive growth over all five years of the List. In a game of musical chairs at GreeneStreet Films, production head and partner Tim Williams has been bumped up to co-president alongside founding partner John Penotti, Michael Hogan has been named Coo and actor-turned-producer/co-founder Fisher Stevens is stepping down as a partner in the company.
Stevens said he will still be an owner of the financing, production and sales outfit. He will serve as a producer on several upcoming GreeneStreet projects, including "Positively Fifth Street" and "The Invisible Woman," but will no longer be involved in day-to-day decision-making at the company. "I'm looking to focus more on my acting and directing career and outside productions," including producing and helming an adaptation of the novel "The Highest Tide" and his role on "Lost," Stevens said. "This is better if other opportunities come up, versus living for the company more."
Williams joined GreeneStreet as head of production when the company was founded by Stevens and Penotti in 1998, heading to Los Angeles in 2006 as the company launched its West Coast offices. Hogan, a partner and Coo at the now-disbanded Hart Sharp Entertainment from 1999-2007, joined GreeneStreet last year as a consultant and will remain based in New York.
Williams will continue his production duties along with new responsibilities co-heading the company, while Hogan will oversee all operational and financial duties. Both will work with Penotti to develop new industry partnerships, as well as new-media, digital and online ventures with recently hired consultant Eric Spiegelman. The company also will continue developing its GreeneStreet Films International sales arm headed by another recent hire, Amy Beecroft.
Stevens is currently working on a documentary tentatively titled "The Rising" about the slaughter of dolphins in Japan. He described his relationship with GreeneStreet as amicable and said they may help produce some of his future outside projects.

GreeneStreet adds exec
NEW YORK -- GreeneStreet Films has appointed Amy Beecroft, HBO's former director of international theatrical distribution, to head its international sales division.
Beecroft, who spent a year and a half at HBO, was in charge of expanding the cabler's international distribution and served as a bridge between Picturehouse and HBO creative execs. HBO, co-owner of Picturehouse with New Line Cinema, is now seeking to lessen its role in theatrical releasing through the specialty film outfit, and no replacement for Beecroft has been named.
Beecroft's new role offers her an opportunity to expand GSFI's sales, marketing and distribution. She said she hopes to bring more high-quality genre fare to GreeneStreet's traditionally Art House and mainstream feature slate.
Beecroft, who headed directly to the Sundance Film Festival after her HBO exit, will attend next week's Berlin International Film Festival and will have ample time to grow the company's traditionally strong Festival de Cannes presence. She will be based in Los Angeles.

Beecroft, who headed directly to the Sundance Film Festival after her HBO exit, will attend next week's Berlin International Film Festival and will have ample time to grow the company's traditionally strong Festival de Cannes presence. She will be based in Los Angeles.
