Pop superstar Justin Bieber on Tuesday shared a first look at his animated screen persona as the title star of Cupid, the Hellenic musical epic currently in production at Mythos Studios in Los Angeles. Have a look below.
When Bieber shared the somewhat doleful image of his feather-winged archer with all 121 million of his Instagram followers it ushered in the public-facing portion of the Mythos Studios rollout that ranks among the most intriguing Hollywood start-ups in recent years.
Music video veteran Pete Candeland (The Gorillaz) is directing the animated musical about the famed god of desire from classical mythology. Far removed from the chubby cherub of St Valentine’s Day, the feature film’s Cupid is a winged archer with attitude — he’s charismatic but headstrong, no surprise considering he’s the offspring of Venus, the goddess of love, and Mars, the war deity.
No release date has been set.

Mythos Studios, the year-old content venture from Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and manager-mogul Scooter Braun, announced Thursday the group of creatives who are overseeing three films in pre-production.
Foremost is “Cupid,” the first film in a planned universe based on Greek and Roman mythology. The titular matchmaker, to be voiced by Justin Bieber, will be directed by celebrated music video helmer and commercial animator Pete Candeland (of the beloved Gorillaz videos).
The narrative tells of Cupid and his love interest Psyche, developed for the screen by Carlos Kotkin (“Rio 2”) from a story adaptation by Maisel. Psyche, still uncast, is human royalty whose beauty intimidates Cupid’s mom Aphrodite.
The late Michael Turner, a comic creator and artist who worked with DC and Marvel, is most noted for his earliest and solo creations. Two of those, “Fathom” and “Soulfire,” are in productions as complimenting features that will move...

A year after its launch, Mythos Studios, the fledgling company led by Marvel Studios founding chairman David Maisel and record executive Scooter Braun, on Thursday revealed it is in active development on three animated features.
Taking a page out of a playbook Maisel used when he was Marvel's top exec, Mythos hopes to create cinematic universes for animated fare while also event-sizing stories and attracting more sophisticated and global audiences. One of its early steps was taking an ownership stake in Aspen Comics, controlling entertainment rights to its intellectual property, including the works of deceased comics superstar Michael Turner.

Justin Bieber is developing a Cupid animated movie in partnership with Mythos Studios. Bieber is attached to star as the voice of Cupid, as well as executive produce.
The producers, Scooter Braun and David Maisel, announced the project Tuesday and described Cupid as the legendary winged God of Love from classical mythology — the son of Venus, the Goddess of Love and Beauty, and Mars, the God of War. They noted that Cupid is known for his playful and mischievous personality and his magical bow and arrow, creating an uncontrollable desire and love for the first person they may see.
“When this project was brought to Justin, he instantly was excited to be a part of it. Fortunately for us, like Cupid, he knows a little bit about love and mischief,” said Mythos Studios co-founder Braun.
Maisel, co-founder of Mythos, said, “Both myself and Scooter have a lifelong love of mythology...
