Stars: Tom Berenger, Kristen Hager, Paul Ben-Victor, Jimmy LeBlanc, Mark Sivertsen, Brian Duffy, Ace Gibson, Ryan Homchick, Caroline Portu, Erica McDermott | Written and Directed by John Barr
Retired war veteran Jim Reed (Berenger) heads out on a hunting trip in the Allagash backcountry of Maine but when an accident finds him face-to-face with the corpse of a dead woman and a duffle bag packed with stolen money he soon finds himself in a web of deceit and murder. Fighting both extreme cold and a gang of bloodthirsty bank robbers, Reed must put all of his military training into action in an ice-cold game of cat-and-mouse.
The debut feature for cinematographer John Barr, Blood and Money is clearly modelled after the films of the Coen Brothers but without any of the style or panache of that duos film – Barr seemingly thinking the noir-ish characters and snowy setting are what mark out the Coen’s work.

As Mel Gibson’s “Hacksaw Ridge” opens around the country, a movie that is playing well for critics and audiences is tainted by a gifted filmmaker with a sticky scandal.
The deja vu is fresh, after “The Birth of a Nation” director-star Nate Parker tried to promote his movie while being shadowed by his 1999 rape trial, and the surprise news that the accuser committed suicide in 2012. After a rapturous response at Sundance and at the Toronto International Film Festival, the movie made a lackluster opening in October. His Oscar hopes? Over.

After trading some risqué jokes with Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes, Mel Gibson hit the town with his girlfriend. The Expendables 3 star, 60, and Rosalind Ross, 24, were spotted exiting hand-in-hand from the CAA award show afterparty at Sunset Tower Hotel on Sunday night, TMZ report. Gibson wore a black tux with a matching bowtie, while Ross opted for a strapless, purple gown with a flowing train. Earlier in the evening, Gibson received some friendly, expletive-laden jabs from host Gervais while onstage as a presenter. Gervais joked about the actor's past drinking habits, and Gibson fired back that seeing the...

After about 32 years of being a slavishly devout fan of Killing Joke, the job of reviewing their new studio album with any semblance of balanced objectivity is a tougher task than you might imagine. Those who have embraced the music, mythos and accompanying sensibility of Killing Joke tend to do so with a bug-eyed fervor that borders liberally on myopic zealotry. In short order, no other band matters nearly as much.
That was me for many a year. Sure, I listened to loads of different stuff, but no one touched Killing Joke. Not even close. Even their less salubrious moments -- say, their first divisively populist single, “Me or You?” or Jaz Coleman's beleaguered ersatz-prog opus, Outside The Gate -- still seemed a thousand times more intriguing than any contributions from the rest of the rock rabble, despite any inherent flaws or deviations from the script. Simply put, there...

Three men are gunned down in a drive-by outside a nightclub. When Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) arrives at the scene, the coroner notices one of the men is wearing army dog tags, as is the other one. One of the Vics is taken to hospital. Gabriel (Corey Reynolds) tells her about one of the men being called 'T-Ball.' It was very typical and stereotypical for them to assume the men were gang members cos of the way they died and their colour. Provenza (Gw Bailey) tells Brenda one of the men is still alive and she races to the hospital to question him. Ty (Ace Gibson) is critical and Brenda asks him to squeeze her hand twice if he knows who shot him. He doesn't know but he does know what the shooting was about. Flatlining at that point, Brenda picks up his bloody tags. She needs Pope (Jk Simmons...

Her selfishness and her career came before their relationship, Mel Gibson allegedly tells Oksana Grigorieva, in the latest in a series of recorded rants between the Oscar winner and his former girlfriend - and released Thursday by RadarOnline. Apparently referring to a money squeeze, the actor-filmmaker, 54, allegedly shouts, "I have to sell paintings." (Some have estimated that Gibson's divorce from his wife of nearly 30 years, Robyn, could cost him as much as $500 million.) He also mentions the sale of his Los Angeles Lakers box seats, putting a grand total on his relationship with the 40-year-old Russian musician, with whom he has an 9-month-old child,...

Around the same time Mel Gibson's lawyers entered a Los Angeles courtroom to fight an attempt by the actor's ex-girlfriend to strip the "Lethal Weapon" star of his custody rights to the couple's 9-month-old daughter, the latest in a disturbing series of recorded phone-call snippets was released by RadarOnline.com. (Warning: Recordings contain offensive and explicit content.)
In the fifth tape posted by the site, Gibson, 54, appears on the verge of hyperventilating as he berates ex Oksana Grigorieva over the disastrous state of his finances. "Bitch, whore, cu--, gold digger!" Gibson, a divorced father of eight, yells at Grigorieva during the fight, in which he excoriates the aspiring singer for requesting that he buy her an expensive dress and let her use his Lakers box seats.

Scared of the dark? You should be. Here’s a quickie trailer and poster for Robert David Sanders’ “in the dark” creature movie “The Blackout”. I’d like to tell you that I don’t want to spoil what is lurking in the darkness and chasing our victims, but, er, the poster sorta already gives that away. Starring Barbara Streifel Sanders, Joseph Dunn, Ian Malcolm, Michael Caruso, Caroline Rich, Anthony Tedesco, James Martinez, John Gorman, Alexis Zibolis, and Ace Gibson. When an apartment building’s lights go out mysteriously, all of the tenants put aside their problems and band together to get to the bottom of the city-wide blackout. Deep in the basement of the high-rise, a hideous breed of monster hatches and begins to wreak havoc. Everyone must find a way to kill the blood-thirsty creatures and survive the darkness before it destroys the world. Synopsis: When an apartment...

Christian Bale gets lost among the machines.
Christian Bale in "Terminator Salvation"
Photo: Warner Bros.
A lot of hard work has gone into "Terminator Salvation," the fourth installment of the time-shuffling robot-war series and the first since the 2003 "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" detoured the franchise into the realm of unintentional hilarity. Unlike the past films, the new one is set in the future — the one from which android assassin Arnold Schwarzenegger was dispatched a quarter-century ago to travel back to 1984 and terminate Sarah Connor, the soon-to-be mother of John Connor, who, in the future from which Arnold was dispatched, had grown up to be the leader of the human resistance forces battling the metallic minions of Skynet, the sentient computer entity that had taken over the world. Oh, and also to put a stop to Kyle Reese, who had likewise beamed in from the future for the purpose of becoming John Connor's father.

Freddy (Robert Englund exclusively, as of now) Krueger is one of horrors most iconic figures. The hideous past, the hideous face, the easily anticipated, but humorous one-liners, they’ve all helped to create a star that continues to shine today. But the best attribute Freddy possesses is an uncanny ability to manufacture creative and grizzly methods of victim disposal.
Examine a few other long running franchises, and really evaluate the quality of their sequels. The majority lose all fear factor, and loads of appeal to boot. This happens because the lines of creativity gradually disappear. We know that Michael Myers will wield his kitchen knife until the final moment of the final reel on Halloween night. We know that Jason Voorhees will celebrate every Friday The 13th with a machete. Pinhead’s going to pull out the whips and chains, Leatherface will snatch the chainsaw and the cycle will run…...
