Naomi Osaka's return is upon us, and former Wta player Barbara Schett previewed what we might see from the former number one.
The return of Naomi Osaka is probably the most exciting storyline in tennis. It's been a long time since we saw her play, and her ability with the racket makes it so exciting.
We don't know what's going to happen, but very few players were ever as dominant as Osaka was Down Under over the years. Former player Barbara Schett spoke to Eurosport about what we might expect from Osaka on her comeback.
She thinks it will likely go better than that of Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber because she's younger and generally has more of an aggressive game.
Caroline Wozniacki and Angie Kerber, they're a little bit more defensive. They do like to play with the pace of the opponent, but they don't have those killer shots like Naomi Osaka.

While a lot of fans might be excited to see Naomi Osaka back in tennis, most other players won't be excited to see her back on the Wta Tour.
Most of them will likely play it cool and praise Osaak and her comeback to the sport but she's nothing more than a problem for most of them. If you're Iga Swiatek, you can't be that excited about a really good tennis player coming back to the sport.
It will make your job tougher, especially if Osaka is truly as motivated as she seems to be. Aryna Sabalenka certainly won't be thrilled by yet another competitor for trophies. Fans will love it, though, as it will make the Tour more exciting overall.
Regarding the analysts, Barbara Schett tends to believe that Swiatek and Sabalenka, who recently bested Ons Jabeur in Riyadh, would like to bypass Osaka Down Under. She spoke about...

2023 was a big year for Iga Swiatek but 2024 could be even bigger as the Polish player is targetting new heights.
Swiatek being great is nothing new, as we've seen it for two years now. She was utterly spectacular in 2022, winning two Grand Slams and spending much of the year as world number one on the Wta Tour.
She was pretty good this year, though not as dominant as last year. Even so, it was impressive to see her maintain her number-one rank at the end of the year in a year where many players stepped up their level considerably.
Now, ahead of the 2024 season, which begins in a few days, the Pole is starting another season, which can prove to be a monumental year for her. She has lofty goals, and it's an Olympic year, complicating things.
The Olympics will be played at Roland Garros, where she has won three times already,...

Rafael Nadal is only about a week away from his competitive return to tennis, and it will be one of the most followed returns in a long time.
The last time we saw Nadal play on a tennis court was actually at the Australian Open. It was a match against Mackenzie McDonald, during which Nadal injured his hip, and that was it for the 2023 season.
He finished the match pretty quickly, but news came out that he was going to be away for a while. The Spaniard had a natural recovery, but it didn't work out well, so he shut it down completely and underwent surgery.
The return is coming up shortly, and it will be tricky. Many are unsure whether Nadal will be competitive at all, while some are adamant that he will. Former pro and analyst Barbara Schett shared her thoughts in a recent exclusive interview with Eurosport.

Iga Swiatek once again proved to be a dominant force in 2023, but her reign was seriously challenged and will be challenged again in 2024.
2022 was a spectacular year for Iga Swiatek who played amazing tennis all year long. 2023 was, in many ways, a more impressive year because she overcame quite a few obstacles and still came out on top despite several players improving their level.
A similar challenge awaits her in 2024 as several players are looking to step up even further, and that's very exciting news for all tennis fans, who are closely following the Wta Tour.
The usual suspects of ARyna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Jessica Pegula will always be a problem, but other players like Marketa Vondrousova and Karolina Muchova had tremendous years in 2023.
Analyzing what Swiatek might face in 2024, Eurosport analyst Barbara Schett picked Sabalenka and Rybakina as the biggest challenges.

Stefanos Tsitsipas believes the "same passion and love" would have existed between himself and his girlfriend Paula Badosa even if they weren't tennis players.
Tsitsipas' relationship with Wta star Badosa has been one of the major off-court storylines to emerge in 2023. They've become a powerful tennis couple, and have even created a joint social media page to provide constant updates on their love affair.
Tsitsipas spoke glowingly of Badosa during his most recent interview Austrian channel Servus TV. It's almost by coincidence that their lives intertwined through tennis, according to Tsitsipas who admitted to how his own parents fell in love while playing the sport.
The Greek star was quizzed by Barbara Schett on what inspires him about his Manhattan-born girlfriend, to which Tsitsipas responded by saying "everything" on and off the court. This couldn't be more evident given how committed Badosa has been in his corner while she is...

Former Wta player and current Eurosport tennis expert Barbara Schett showered praise on Novak Djokovic in the wake of his US Open win and says Carlos Alcaraz has a long way to go.
Djokovic was projected to meet Alcaraz in the 2023 US Open final, but the final that many expected and wanted never materialized as Daniil Medvedev authored a semifinal upset to end the young Spaniard's title defense , and put himself in contention to challenge Djokovic.
In a repeat of the 2021 US Open final, Djokovic avenged that loss , and he was looser and fitter than an opponent who was almost a decade younger. After three hours and 17 minutes, it was the indefatigable Serbian who completed the full dissection of Medvedev to earn a record-equaling 24th Grand Slam singles crown.
Speaking after the match, Schett told Eurosport there is the likelihood Djokovic's numbers will not be repeated, adding the colossal work...

Flushing Meadows is abuzz with anticipation. Two tennis, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, are heading into the US Open as the top two seeds, fans can't help but dream of a show-stopping final between the duo.
Yet, as Casper Ruud pointed out when talking to Eurosport , the Alcaraz advantage might be his ability to pick up the pace even faster than Djokovic. Both possess a comprehensive range of shots and are known for their incredible court coverage, but according to the Norwegian, the 20-year-old can 'accelerate even more.'

London, July 17 (Ians) Carlos Alcaraz’s coach Juan Carlos Ferrero has revealed the key to his protege’s quick adaptation to playing on grass and said he and Alcaraz took elements from the playing styles of Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer heading into the tournament.
The 20-year-old Alcaraz, competing in just his fourth competition on grass, overcame the 23-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic in Sunday’s epic final at the All England Club to claim his second Grand Slam title.
Alcaraz, who won his first major at the 2022 US Open, snapped Djokovic’s 34-match winning streak at Wimbledon with his four-hour, 42-minute victory in an SW19 classic on Sunday.
Speaking to Eurosport’s experts Mats Wilander and Barbara Schett about the key to Alcaraz’s quick adaptation to playing on grass, Ferrero said: “It’s very difficult to say, I think he takes things on board very quickly,...

Eurosport tennis analyst Barbara Schett doesn't think Carlos Alcaraz is ready to win Wimbledon as long as Novak Djokovic is in the draw.
Carlos Alcaraz will be the top seed at Wimbledon , something that he described as a dream. Does that mean that he'll win Wimbledon? Obviously not, even though there is a chance. His run in Queen's this week proved that his tennis can work on grass and he's certainly in the circle of players capable of winning the event.
Former player Barbara Schett previewed his chances for Eurosport admitting that she does expect Alcaraz to do well but not go all the way. His stock took a beating with the anticlimactic finish at Roland Garros which caused everybody to temper their expectations with him.

Former player and Eurosport analyst Barbara Schett thinks that only an injury could possibly prevent Novak Djokovic from winning yet another Wimbledon .
Novak Djokovic is the number one favourite for Wimbledon and it's pretty clear why. The Serbian won the event four years in a row, he has more wins than the whole current Top 20 combined and he's just been super solid at the event.
He didn't lose on Centre Court for 10 years which tells you all you really need to know. Besides that, there aren't any players that could possibly challenge him. Carlos Alcaraz seems like the best bet and even he is aware that it's far harder on grass than any other surface. Eurosport's Barbara Schett agrees.
I have to say, looking at the way Novak has been playing this year, looking at the way Novak has been playing in Wimbledon in the past, he's going in as the heavy favourite,...

Jannik Sinner lost to Daniel Altmaier at Roland Garros and John McEnroe had some very strong words about the match.
McEnroe counts himself among Sinner's biggest fans on the tennis Tour due to the way he plays tennis. It's just a spectacle to watch because there are not many players that are capable of hitting the ball as well as Sinner can.
He demonstrated quite a bit of that at Roland Garros this year but ultimately he blew it. There is no other way to explain it because he had two match points and he didn't use them. After the match Sinner admitted that pressure and expectations got to him. McEnroe was very disappointed with the result and he told it like it is when talking to Eurosport.

Quite a lot of people consider Carlos Alcaraz the favourite for Roland Garros but Marion Bartoli doesn't think he's an overwhelming one.
Alcaraz has been really strong so far this year winning a couple of events including two big ones in Madrid and Indian Wells. The Spaniard has all the qualities needed to win Roland Garros and many consider him the favourite for the event.
Even Djokovic would put him ahead of himself but he's certainly not the only one. Alex Corretja sees him as the favourite, as do his Eurosport colleagues Tim Henman and Barbara Schett. Even so, for Marion Bartoli, he's not the overwhelming favourite because there are other contenders as well.

Carlos Alcaraz is one of the favourites to win at the 2023 Roland Garros and Barbara Schett feels the Spanish player will win in Paris, no matter how successful he is this season.
Alcaraz ramped up his preparation for the 2023 Roland Garros with a strong showing early in the clay court season with wins in the Madrid Open and Barcelona Open. But the 20-year-old was unable to make it three event wins from three on clay as he crashed out in the round of 32 at the Italian Open following a shock loss to world number 135 Fabian Marozsan.
The generally impressive form on clay followed previous Atp wins at Indian Wells and the Argentina Open this season. When sharing her thoughts with Eurosport on Alcaraz's chances at the French Open, Schett believes the world number one is on another level and that it's only a matter of time before he is victorious at Roland Garros.

A three-way contest between Iga Swiatek, Aryna Sabalenka, and Elena Rybakina is expected at Roland Garros according to Barbara Schett.

Dominic Thiem and Casper Ruud have both recently said that they believe Rafael Nadal is still the man to beat at Roland Garros this year, despite the Spaniard barely playing this year.
Nadal's perennial position as the favourite for the Roland Garros is under some doubt this year. The Spaniard has barely played tennis this year after suffering a hip injury in the second round of the Australian Open.
Prior to that, Nadal was on a worrying run of poor form, suffering 5 losses from 9 matches across the final four months of last year.
His clay-court participation is still something of a question mark, although there are now some positive signs emerging from the Nadal camp as he looks set to play the first event of that stretch at the Monte-Carlo Masters.
