A representative for Mischa Barton has hit out at money-hungry publications printing unflattering photos of the actress - insisting the images were manipulated in a bid to sell more magazine copies.
Images of 22-year-old Barton, many of which showed her topless and with cellulite on her thighs, were splashed in various magazines and newspapers and online last week (ends02May08).
And although Barton has insisted she's happy with her body, her spokesperson Lisa Perkins is adamant someone tampered with the photos to suit their own financial gain.
Perkins tells The New York Daily News, "Those photos are doctored. I'm not saying she's perfect, nobody is. But they've given a 22-year-old woman the legs and bottom of an 80-year-old.
"Look at the shots that were taken shortly before on a beach in Los Angeles. Did she develop all that cellulite in a couple of weeks? There's a lot you can do with Photoshopping."
Perkins also calls photographer Jamie Fawcett - who shot the images of the actress on vacation with her mother on Hamilton Island, off Australia's East Coast - a "parasite" out to make Barton look bad because "she called him out for taking the topless shots".
She adds, "It is a shame that publications tend to highlight an issue that isn't fair to a young girl. However, sometimes these are the things that sell pictures."
But the British Daily Mail newspaper, which also published the photos, stands by their authenticity, placing blame on Barton's bad habits: "The nasty habit (smoking) is one of the reasons (for) premature emergence of her cellulite."...

Mischa Barton has been left distraught after being photographed sunbathing topless.
The actress was on holiday on Hamilton Island with her mum Nuala when paparazzo Jamie Fawcett snapped a picture of her on the beach.
She told the Sydney Morning Herald: "We went out from Hamilton to a tiny island to relax in the sun and all of a sudden Jamie Fawcett jumped out of a bush with a massive camera lens and took photos of me.
"He'd followed us in a boat! He's a ridiculous human being. I've never abhorred anyone more. . . .

Mischa Barton has kickstarted a bitter war of words with a paparazzo who snapped her sunbathing topless in Australia.
Barton, 22, is furious images taken by Jamie Fawcett have appeared in an Australian magazine and online. Several snaps show her topless and with cellulite on her thighs.
And the actress has accused Fawcett of disrupting her vacation with her mother Nuala on Hamilton Island, off Australia's East Coast.
She says, "He's a ridiculous human being. I've never abhorred anyone more. I was so angry, I went up to him and said how disappointed I was with his behaviour. He apologised but he was very insincere."
But Fawcett claims he warned Barton about stripping off before he had even captured her on film - and insists she could have found a private spot to seek an all-over tan.
He tells the Sydney Daily Telegraph, "We spoke to each other on the island, and that's when I showed her my camera and I hadn't taken any shots of her topless.
"I did warn her it was a public place, and if she wanted privacy she shouldn't be there.
"I'm not a perv, and I didn't intentionally mean to embarrass her. I don't just set out and start my day thinking I want to get any celebrity topless."
Barton isn't the first celebrity to clash with Fawcett; in 2005 he was accused by a newspaper of planting listening devices in Nicole Kidman's Sydney home.
In February this year he lost a defamation lawsuit against the newspaper, after Kidman told a court she feared for her life after being pursued by him - and was forced to employ round-the-clock security for her and her family as a result.

Actress Nicole Kidman has told a court how she feared for her life after she was pursued by a photographer in Sydney, Australia two years ago. The Moulin Rouge star gave evidence at photographer Jamie Fawcett's defamation suit against a regional newspaper which publicly criticized him for allegedly hounding Kidman. The star told New South Wales state Supreme Court on Monday how she was at the centre of a high speed car chase as she traveled to her parents' home in another part of the city for dinner in January 2005. Kidman told the court she was "really, really scared" during the car ride and that she was "in tears and distressed" by the time she reached her parents' house. She said, "I was frightened and I was worried there was going to be an accident." Kidman also described two occasions when Fawcett had allegedly been intrusive when trying to photograph her - once while she was on her honeymoon with country music star Keith Urban in Tahiti in 2006, and again after Christmas in Sydney last year. She said his intrusion of her privacy had prompted her to employ full-time security guards. She adds, "I have been pursued many times. I have had this happen in relation to this particular man ... so many times. I employ people to protect me now. I employ people 24 hours to protect myself because I don't feel equipped to handle things." Paparazzo Jamie Fawcett, 41, is suing John Fairfax Publications, the publishers behind local newspaper the Sun-Herald, after they ran a January 2005 article accusing Fawcett of allegedly planting a listening device outside Kidman's Sydney home. The article was found by a jury to be defamatory last year and the current hearing aims to determine whether John Fairfax Publications are liable for damages.

Actress Nicole Kidman has been subpoenaed to testify against a photographer in Sydney, Australia, after a judge insisted she appear in court in person to give evidence in the defamation case. Paparazzo Jamie Fawcett, 41, is suing John Fairfax Publications, the publishers behind local newspaper the Sun-Herald, after they ran a January 2005 article accusing Fawcett of allegedly planting a listening device outside Kidman's Sydney home. The article was found by a jury to be defamatory last year and the current hearing aims to determine whether John Fairfax Publications are liable for damages. Fawcett was charged with possession and use of a listening device in early 2005, but the charges were dropped in June after the New South Wales state Supreme Court ruled there was no evidence to suggest he had violated any law. Kidman, who is currently filming Baz Lurhmann's Australia, was due to give evidence for the defenze about her at-times controversial dealings with Fawcett, in the publishing house's effort to avoid a payout. Kidman had requested to testify via video link or at a weekend hearing because of her busy shooting schedule, but the appeal was rejected by Sydney's Supreme Court's Justice Carolyn Simpson on Monday, reports Fox News. She told the courtroom: "I think we should make enquiries about a time that will occasion the least disruption and it seems there is going to be co-operation on the part of all the parties involved to accommodate Ms Kidman." The hearing continues.

A paparazzo accused of attempting to eavesdrop on Nicole Kidman at her home in Sydney, Australia, has had all charges against him dropped. Photographer Jamie Fawcett, 41, was charged in January 2005 with possession and use of a listening device after he was found allegedly planting the bug outside the Moulin Rouge star's mansion. He was accused by local authorities of attempting to listen in on conversations between Kidman's security guards, but Fawcett claimed he was being "unfairly targeted" because of his profession and appealed to the New South Wales state Supreme Court. They ruled that there was no evidence he had violated any law and on Thursday the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew the charges without further explanation. Speaking outside the courthouse, Fawcett said, "It was a very narrow investigation that once again targeted the photographers at a scene and I felt that was perhaps unfair. I am often asked about the feud between Miss Kidman and myself. In fact, I don't have any opinion whatsoever about Miss Kidman, other than to wish her all the best." Kidman was not directly involved in the case and refused to comment on the ruling. Her spokesperson, Wendy Day, says, "It has nothing to do with Nicole. That was something to do between the DPP and Jamie Fawcett." This is not the first time Fawcett has been in trouble with the law over Kidman - in 2005 the movie star won a temporary restraining order against the photographer and another paparazzo, before reaching to an out-of-court agreement to keep away from her home.

A photographer accused of planting a listening device in Nicole Kidman's Australian home has successfully appealed against an order to submit a DNA sample. Jamie Fawcett is alleged to have used the device to tap into conversations between the Bewitched star's security guards so could predict her traveling plans. The device was discovered wrapped in protective plastic and partly submerged in water and foliage on a footpath a short distance from the actress' Sydney mansion in January. Police found two different DNA profiles on the listening apparatus and hoped to link one to Fawcett. But Justice Michael Grove ruled in favor of Fawcett, insisting there is no evidence to suggest Fawcett had successfully used the device to record a conversation and therefore had not committed an offence. Justice Grove said, "Assuming that it is desired to focus the relevant suspicion upon an inference of earlier possession, accompanied by an intention at that time to use the device to commit an offence. (There is) no evidence before the court that the device was ever used. That that must happen is an essential ingredient of an offence of using a listening device." Fawcett commented outside the court: "I am pleased with the result. I am only happy that common sense has prevailed. I thought for a long while this has gone on and on and I'm glad it's over."...
