New Delhi, June 20 (Ians) Dr Sharad Agarwal, National President of the Indian Medical Association (Ima), raised concern about the growing instances of violence against doctors and requested the government to bring a law to protect the medical community.
The Ima chief was speaking to The Healthy Indian Project (Thip).
A survey done a couple of years ago revealed that up to 75 per cent of doctors had experienced some form of violence in their workplaces.
The Epidemic (Amended) Ordinance, 2020, passed in India, gave protection for healthcare personnel combatting Covid.
But Dr Agarwal raised a pertinent question on why violence against doctors should only be considered a crime during the times of national health crises.
“This is the need of the hour. How can a doctor treat a critical patient under stress and under threat? The nation is not realising how serious this issue is. After this, no good doctor will agree...

To be fair to players, it’s the auction dynamics — demand and supply — which often dictates the amount. Players have no control on the amount for which they are signed at the auction except finalising their base price.
However, once the auction is done and dusted, these professionals should ideally accept the reality and concentrate on producing match-winning performances for their franchise. But Ipl history suggests that more often than not, players with big price tags couldn’t deliver as per expectations and same has been the case in the ongoing Ipl 2023 season.

New Delhi, May 1 (Ians) As global layoffs, especially in the tech industry, continue unabated in 2023, Vedanta Chairman Anil Agarwal on Monday shared his views on LinkedIn, saying the companies should take care of their employees as they will only take care of their business.
He recalled the time when Vedanta first took over Hindustan Zinc Limited (Hzl).
“In these uncertain times of global layoffs, I am reminded of a story that will always stay with me — one of hope, unity and the power of believing in people. When we first took over Hzl, instead of focusing on machines, we chose to put our focus on people who made this company what it was,” he posted.

Hyderabad, April 25 (Ians) The wheel of fortune is turning around for Delhi Capitals and the David Warner-led side put up an extremely disciplined bowling performance to beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs in Match No. 34 of the Ipl 2023, here.
Defending a modest 144, DC restricted Srh to 137/6 on Monday night, thereby recording their second successive victory on the back of five straight defeats.
The spin duo of Axar Patel (2/21) and Kuldeep Yadav (1/22) were at their best once again while the veteran paceman Ishant Sharma put up an impressive show for the second game running, taking 1/18 in three overs.
Srh opener Mayank Agarwal had put his team in a position of strength, hitting 49, but got out trying to lift Patel out of the park. The hosts lost significant momentum thereafter and handed their opponents an opening back into the game. The defeat also meant that Srh paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s brilliant...

Hyderabad, April 24 (Ians) Delhi Capitals came up with a brilliant bowling effort to squeeze out a 7-run win against Sunrisers Hyderabad, negating some brilliant late-order batting by Heinrich Klaasen and Washington Sundar in Match 34 of Ipl 2023 here on Monday.
It was a superb bowling effort by the Delhi Capitals bowlers as Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje and Ishant Sharma applied the squeeze as they throttled the Sunrisers Hyderabad innings in a low-scoring encounter.
Washington Sundar had claimed 3-28 and three batters were run-out as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 144/9 in 20 overs. Though it looked like they had fallen 20 runs short, in the end, it proved enough thanks to the brilliant effort put up by the DC bowlers.
After Mayank Agarwal (49) had maintained the Sunrisers’ chances with a crucial knock, Heinrich Klaasen and Sundar revived their chances after a middle-order wobble. Thanks to their efforts, Sunrisers Hyderabad needed 38 runs off...

New Delhi, April 24 (Ians) Leading gaming platform CEOs on Monday expressed their grave concerns over the ‘extortionist’ 30 per cent tax imposed by Google on gaming apps in the country.
Mandatory in-app purchases force consumers to pay only through their payment systems, which involves a commission fee of up to 30 per cent.
Sai Srinivas, Co-founder and CEO, Mobile Premier League (Mpl) highlighted that the 30 per cent commission may be viable in advanced markets like the US, but for India, it is crucial to ensure that Indian game developers receive more revenue to invest in game development and build more games.
If a developer charges Rs 100, Rs 30 goes to the play store or app store and Rs 70 goes to the developer. From that Rs 70, they have to pay for hosting, user acquisition, and other expenses.

Lucknow, April 2 (Ians) Autistic children should be kept away from TV screens, tablets and mobile phones as far as possible since this exposure is said to aggravate symptoms.
Medical experts says that this flare-up of symptoms due to screen exposure is called ‘virtual autism’ and cases are on the rise in the post pandemic era, especially in children under the age of five.
Prof Vivek Agrawal, head of psychiatry department in the King George’s Medical University (Kgmu), said children below the age of five are spending six-ten hour watching screens.
“We are seeing five-six such cases in the Opd which used to be one-two earlier during pre-pandemic era. Luckily, it is reversible if identified in its early stages and corrective measures taken,” said Prof Agarwal.
He said traits like social interaction, communication and behavioural challenges among children with autism spectrum disorder (Asd) are getting flared up.

New York, March 11 (Ians) People who eat diets rich in green leafy vegetables as well as other vegetables, fruits, whole grains, olive oil, beans, nuts and fish may have fewer amyloid plaques and tau tangles in their brain — signs of Alzheimer’s disease — than people who do not consume such diets, according to a study.
These food items are found majorly in the brain-focused Mind — short for Mediterranean-dash Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay — and plant-based Mediterranean diets.
Although similar, the Mediterranean diet recommends vegetables, fruit, and three or more servings of fish per week while the Mind diet prioritises green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale and collard greens along with other vegetables.

If the dark clouds hanging over Twitter have you in a funk, then you’ll be happy to hear that blue skies are on the way. A social media startup called Bluesky Social has hit the U.S. App Store, and it is backed by Twitter Co-Founder Jack Dorsey.
The foundation of Bluesky is the At Protocol, which powers a “federated network” of interconnected sites. Director Raj Mehta’s (of JugJugg Jeeyo) ‘Selfiee’ is a comedy-drama film, a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film ‘Driving Licence’ that featured Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu. Though Selfiee is a remake, the plot, situations & circumstances are slightly adjusted to the sensibilities of Akshay Kumar fans. And that seems to be a letdown. While Driving Licence was very straight forward in showcasing the issue and the resolution, Selfiee is over-the-top, which kills the very soul of the narrative.

New Delhi, Jan 30 (Ians) Indian startup founders on Monday said that to explore a comprehensive digital India, the Union Budget for FY24 must leverage the full inherent potential of the homegrown technology industry to become champions of digitisation.

“However, the ideal exemption should be 10 years, in view of the high cost of solution development. As positive employment drivers, startups also require government intervention in the expensive affair of hiring and retaining the right talent to drive growth,” Nimmagadda said in a statement.
“To lead the startups onwards and upwards, a single-window process to enable the right financial support from government would be incentivising for MSMEs,” he added.

Agarwal’s promotion to captaining his former team Punjab Kings in Ipl 2022 didn’t lead to a truckload of runs as he scored just 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33, with the side ending at sixth place in the ten-team points table.
In November, ahead of the mini auction, Agarwal was released by the side after having joined them in 2018, with Shikhar Dhawan announced as new Punjab Kings captain. Now with Hyderabad having Agarwal, they now have a player in their ranks who’s featured in 113 Ipl games and has leadership experience too.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians got Australia all-rounder Cameron Green for Inr 17.5 crores after a fierce battle with Delhi Capitals, making him the second most expensive player in the history of the tournament.
England Test skipper Ben Stokes, who played with Ms Dhoni at now-defunct Rising Pune Super Giants in 2017, will join the former India skipper in Chennai Super Kings with a signing amount of Inr 16.25 crores, the joint-third most expensive player in the ongoing auction.

Kochi, Dec 23 (Ians) Former Australia cricketer David Hussey thinks the 2016 Ipl winners Sunrisers Hyderabad (Srh) have probably overpaid for the services of England batter Harry Brook in the ongoing 2023 Ipl Mini Player Auction.
Brook made his England T20I debut against West Indies this year. In 17 innings, he has averaged 26.57 at a strike rate of 137.77 and was a part of England’s T20 World Cup-winning team in Australia. Recently, he was named Player of the Series in England’s 3-0 Test series triumph in Pakistan for scoring three centuries on tour.
He had entered the Ipl 2023 mini-auction at a base price of Inr 1.5 crore and Royal Challengers Bangalore along with Rajasthan Royals initially began the bidding war for him. Sunrisers Hyderabad joined the frenzied bidding and eventually got to sign Brook for Inr 13.25 crore. This will be Brook’s first appearance in the Ipl through the 2023 season.

Agarwal was named as the captain of Punjab Kings for Ipl 2022 and was retained by the franchise for a whopping Inr 12 crores. But a promotion to leadership didn’t lead to a truckload of runs with the bat as he scored just 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33.
On the leadership front, he didn’t fare well as Punjab ended the season at sixth place in the ten-team points table. In November, Agarwal was released by the side after the announcement came of Shikhar Dhawan replacing him as captain of Punjab Kings, with Trevor Bayliss replacing Anil Kumble as head coach.
"He (Mayank) will definitely go big. If anybody doesn’t pick him, I will be very disappointed because he is sort of an explosive player. I know he is probably hurt within himself that he has not been retained by Punjab Kings after what he has sacrificed for...

New Delhi, Nov 16 (Ians) Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar believes one of the main reasons for Punjab Kings releasing their Ipl 2022 captain Mayank Agarwal on Tuesday was him being unable to justify the hefty price tag after a bad season.
Agarwal was named as the captain of the side for Ipl 2022 and was retained by the franchise for a whopping Inr 12 crores. Agarwal, joined the Punjab team in 2018 and forged a strong opening pairing with Kl Rahul, who was captain of the side till 2021.
But a promotion to leadership didn’t lead to truckload of runs with the bat for the right-hander in Ipl 2022. Agarwal scored just 196 runs in 13 matches at an average of 16.33. On the leadership front, he didn’t fare well as Punjab ended the season at sixth place in the ten-team points table.
