With Pablo Escobar out of the mix at the end of the second season of “Narcos,” the series has had to pivot a little, but the next batch of episodes will find law enforcement taking on a new kingpin.
DEA agent Javier Peña (Pedro Pascal) will be part of the team looking to take down the Cali Cartel in “Narcos” season 3. Boyd Holbrook and Joanna Christie return as well, in what looks like a season that wipes the slate clean in some regards, but also gives audiences the familiar elements they’ve come to expect from the popular show: drugs, action, and exotic locations.

As tends to be the case with successful shows, “Narcos” is set to return to Netflix for its third season this fall. That’s more notable now than it might have been a few months ago, however, as the streaming giant is now in the habit of canceling certain series (sorry, “Sense8”). Five first-look photos and a video announcing the return date of September 1 have been shared exclusively with IndieWire; avail yourself of all below.

Netflix apparently enjoys being in business with Pablo Escobar. The streaming giant has renewed Narcos, its latest drama series, which focuses on the drug kingpin and the Medellin Cartel, for a second season. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to break the news. Narcos debuted its 10-episode first season last Friday, Aug. 28. The series stars Wagner Moura as Pablo Escobar, Maurice Compte as Horatio Carrillo, Boyd Holbrook as Steve Murphy, Pedro Pascal as Javier Peña, Joanna Christie as Connie Murphy, Roberto Urbina as Fabio, Ana de la Reguera as Elisa, Danielle Kennedy as Ambassador Noonan, and Stephanie Sigman as Valeria Velez. For Narcos Season 2, Adam Fierro (The Shield) will take over as showrunner for Chris Brancato (Hannibal). Brancato served as showrunner throughout Narcos‘ debut season but left the series to join ABC’s Of Kings and Prophets, which is slated to premiere sometime at midseason. "Narcos," Netflix's new drama about the rise of the Colombian drug cartels, opens with a title card explaining, "Magical realism is defined as what happens when a highly detailed, realistic setting is invaded by something too strange to believe. It then adds, "There is a reason magical realism was born in Colombia." This observation — which the "Narcos" creators like enough to have a character repeat in a later episode — suggests a magical realism take on the story of Pablo Escobar and the rest of the Medellin Cartel. Instead, it's a pretty straightforward, if lengthy (the first season has 10 episodes; I've seen the first 7), take on the sordid, tragic business of Pablo and his comrades. It moves at a fast clip and is eminently watchable, even as it feels like a pretty superficial take on the subject. Created by Chris Brancato, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard, with the first episode directed...

A brand new trailer has arrived for Netflix’s next original series Narcos, exploring the activities of infamous drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. Set during the druggy excesses of the 1980s, the series delves into the exploits of the kingpin himself and the Medellin cartel, who aided him in funnelling buckets of cocaine in and out of Colombia. This latest preview provides new insight thanks to Boyd Holbrook’s voiceover as one of the DEA agents lumped with the thankless task of bringing Escobar down.
Alongside Holbrook is Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) as a fellow agent and Wagner Moura in the plum role of the gangster himself. And the blood-soaked, violence-fuelled gangster tip is played heavily here, with more than a few nods to some of the genre’s classics. What’s worthwhile noting while watching the trailer is how little public presence the series has thus far. It’s...

Netflix has been having a hit-or-miss year with its originals, with runaway successes like Marvel’s Daredevil and lackluster bows like Bloodline and Sense8, but Narcos definitely has all the trappings of another hit for the streaming giant.
The first trailer for the 10-episode series paints it as a fast-paced, well-researched exploration of the rise of Colombian drug kingpin Pablo Escobar as his Medellin cartel ruled the country with an iron fist in the late 1980s. Narcos simultaneously looks inside Escobar’s empire and follows the law enforcement officials tasked with bringing him down.
Wagner Moura plays Escobar, while Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal take the other two lead roles as DEA agents Steve Murphy and Javier Pena. Jose Padilha (RoboCop, Elite Squad) directed all 10 installments of the series, which will land on Netflix August 28.
Here’s the official synopsis for Narcos, below:

Back when Netflix first started producing its own original series, I wondered how many they would ultimately ever make. Now they are making so many I can hardly keep up with them all, but after watching the trailer for "Narcos" -- which debuts August 28 -- I've found one I'm definitely going to need to keep my eye on. "Narcos" centers on 1980s drug kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura) and the famed Medellin cartel in Colombia, long considered among the most violent, ruthless and wealthy organized crime rings in the modern era. Escobar lorded over the Medellin cartel until his assassination in 1993. Based on the trailer, it seems this first season focuses in on the mid-80s, at which point Escobar and his men were trafficking tons of cocaine each day and raking in billions of dollars each year, though the feds were hot on their heels. Created by Jose Padilha...

Irish actress Laura O'Toole has cast a spell on Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. Radcliffe, who was just 17 when he met the Dublin actress, says O'Toole's his girl. The couple met when they were cast together in the steamy London play, Equus. Radcliffe was playing the male lead while O'Toole was an understudy for the female lead, Jill Potter fans were outraged when Radcliffe's character engaged in a lengthy naked scene with Jill, who was played by Joanna Christie. Radcliffe and O'Toole wound up on stage together just once as the play's management decided to give O'Toole a shot on a single matinee performance. The couple said they grew "very close" during the show's run in London's West End. Just recently, Radcliffe, who is worth a whopping $32m, celebrated his 20th birthday with the 24-year-old O'Toole. Talking to Ok! magazine in Britain last week Radcliffe confirmed rumors that O'Toole and he are an item.

Always keeping his lips tightly sealed when he is asked about his love life, Daniel Radcliffe finally reveals his dating partner. "My girlfriend is Laura O'Toole, and she was in 'Equus' with me. But I don't really want to talk about that, because she's not here and it's not fair," the British actor tells U.K. Ok! Magazine.
Daniel and Laura were co-stars in a revival of Peter Shaffer's 1973 play "Equus". Laura was known as the understudy for the lead female character of Jill, played by Joanna Christie, who engaged in a lengthy nude sex scene with Daniel's character Alan Strang.
Report that Daniel dating Laura, who is four years his senior, first emerged in November 2007 after they played together in the particular play. They were said to be "very close" and were even photographed enjoying a shopping trip together in Fullham, West London.

British actress Joanna Christie has defended Equus co-star Daniel Radcliffe for appearing nude on the London stage, insisting the play is about much more than him stripping off. The Harry Potter star, 17, defended his decision to appear naked in a revival of Peter Shaffer's 1973 play earlier this month, after the promotional pictures for the show caused controversy among parents of young fans of the boy wizard. But 24-year-old Christie is amazed by the amount of press attention Radcliffe has attracted, and urges critics to look beyond the raunchy scenes to see the meaning of the play itself. She says, "I can't believe there are people saying he's a bad role model for children. He's an actor playing a part, and in the story he happens to have a relationship with a girl. The play is on school syllabuses. It's an amazingly interesting, complex story. It's not about nudity or sex. It's about a lot of very complex issues. When we do (the nude scene) in the context of the play it's really beautiful and natural. I expected some publicity because of Daniel but not stories and photos everywhere."...
