It seems the BBC has renewed the Doctor Who TV show for a 12th season, with Jodie Whittaker returning as the 13th Doctor. The British series airs on BBC America on this side of the pond, and while BBCA hasn't released an announcement, it should be renewed in the US as well, as the ratings are way up this year.

In its five decades careening through the cosmos and the popular imagination, Doctor Who has given us plenty of philosophies to choose from: “Go forward in all your beliefs.” “There is no point in being grown up if you can’t be childish sometimes.” “We’re all stories in the end.” “Bananas are good.” But on yesterday’s Season 11 premiere, the latest incarnation of the time-traveling, galaxy-hopping, species-saving, face-changing Time Lord gave voice to what is perhaps the show’s most enduring philosophy: “We’re all capable of the most incredible change.

Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor unleashed 8.2M viewers and a 40.1% share for BBC One in the UK as the first episode of the new season of Doctor Who smashed the performance of recent airings.
This compared to Peter Capaldi’s swansong season, which opened with 4.6M (25%) overnight viewers in the UK in April 2017, largely in line with 2015’s season opener.
To put this further into context, BBC One terror thriller Bodyguard opened with 6.7M viewers and a 35% share to become the biggest new drama launch of the year.
Her entrance was also bigger than debuts by previous doctors including David Tennant, Matt Smith and Capaldi.
The first season under the leadership of Chris Chibnall saw Whittaker’s Doctor joined by new friends Ryan (Tosin Cole), Yasmin (Mandip Gill) and Graham (Bradley Walsh). The next era started with the The Woman Who Fell to Earth episode, which was written by Chibnall and directed by Jamie Childs.

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “Doctor Who” Season 11, Episode 1, “The Woman Who Fell to Earth.”]
Jodie Whittaker bursts out of the gate with vitality, humor, and grace in her official “Doctor Who” debut, giving an engaging performance that does the Time Lord pedigree proud. After 50 years of men in the role, the Doctor is now a woman, but viewers tuning in for the first time to witness Whittaker’s historic assumption of the Doctor’s mantle will find no barrier to entry. Her regeneration has gone wonky, so she and the audience are figuring everything out together. She’s forgotten everyday words, mixes up common sensations, and doesn’t even know her own name. Nevertheless, she is undeterred in her calling as humanity’s champion. “When people need help, I never refuse,” she declares.
Goofy and curious, commanding and contemplative, Thirteen is already well on her way to demonstrating the complex emotional makeup that is the Doctor.

‘Doctor Who’ Season 11 Trailer: Jodie Whittaker Is Starting Again, Sonic Screwdriver in Hand (Video)
The (new) Doctor is in.
BBC America released the official trailer for the upcoming season of “Doctor Who” Thursday, showing new lead Jodie Whittaker in all her badass glory. Whittaker, as fans already know, will play the series’ first ever female Time Lord — a part that is not to be taken lightly. But based on the one-minute preview, she was “born for this.”
Peter Capaldi portrayed the 12th Doctor on the long-running series, giving up his sonic screw driver and keys to the Tardis during last year’s Christmas Special after making it known earlier in the year that he’d be exiting.

The news that Jodie Whittaker would be taking on the role of the 13th Doctor has been out for some time, but every new glimpse of her take on the iconic role seems to prove that gender has nothing to do with adventures through space and time.
Season 11 will be a fresh start for the series, bringing in not just Whittaker but incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall (succeeding Steven Moffat in the role) and a whole new cast. In the new trailer released below, we get glimpses of action, explosions, monsters, and the Doctor’s new companions, who have no problem pointing out who exactly is in charge.
Along with the trailer, the BBC released official descriptions for the first two episodes of the season, as follows:
Episode One – The Woman Who Fell To Earth – Sunday, October 7th
“We don’t get aliens in Sheffield.” In a South Yorkshire city, Ryan Sinclair,...
