The Stanley Film Festival, which will host its debut fest at the iconic and legendary Stanley Hotel in Colorado from May 2-5, has announced its official feature film line-up, with the Eli Roth-starring earthquake thriller Aftershock taking center stage as the fest’s closing night film.
Roth will be on hand to accept the Inaugural Visionary Award and take part in a Q&A after the film.
“Since his debut on the film festival scene with Cabin Fever in 2002, Eli Roth has become a leading force in the horror genre. Whether acting, producing, directing or writing – his many talents are what made titles like Hostel and Inglourious Basterds shine,” says Festival Director Jenny Bloom. “His body of work will set the Stanley Film Festival Visionary Award precedent high for years to come.”

Director Hajime Ohata has a double dose of talent on display with his two films The Big Gun and Henge. Both were made ambitiously on microscopic budges, swapping story for effects in a way that makes everything richer and scarier. When blood does start flowing it only magnifies the dread bubbling under the surface of the works. With short running times, the films get in and do what they need to do, leaving chaos in their wake as Ohata moves to his next horizon. The Big Gun tells the story of a group of machine shop workers down on their luck. In hard economic times they scrape to get by. When a group of gangers pay a visit asking the workers to make cheap guns, it is hard for them to turn them away. They accept the offer, and the baggage that comes with it. The short film runs on brooding menace building quietly so that by...

I doubt that the "in sickness and in health" line of wedding vows was written with demonic, mutant transformations in mind. But, as director Hajime Ohata shows, sometimes them's the breaks. Kazunari Aizawa and Aki Morita play a young married couple who seem like they would be happy enough, if only Aizawa wasn't having a violent, spasm-inducing stroke every other day. The...

We know what you're thinking because we're thinking the same exact thing: Just what the hell is a Henge? The short answer... we don't have the slightest idea, but after watching this latest trailer for it, one thing is incredibly clear - we don't ever want it to happen to us.
Henge, directed by Hajime Ohata and starring Kazunari Aizawa, Aki Morita and Teruhiko Nobukuni, was released in Japan this past March, and there's no word yet on when we'll see this film Stateside. Still, the trailer is bat-shit crazy enough for us to share with you loonies. Dig on the logline below and check out the goods! More on this one as it comes.
Synopsis
