When Jinger Vuolo published her memoir Becoming Free Indeed, Duggar family followers were disappointed. They had hoped for a scathing tell-all about the famous family. Jinger completely avoided talking about her parents. Her sister, Jill Dillard, was willing to do the talking in her own memoir, though. Jill’s bravado may have helped Jinger come out of her shell just a bit. The mother of two is set to release a second book next year. In the meantime, she’s making appearances on podcasts. In a recent podcast appearance, Jinger spoke more about her family’s religious beliefs. She revealed why the Duggar family feared adoption despite being the legal guardian of a minor family member for several years.

The Counting On siblings have lived their lives in the public eye.
With the show canceled, followers have had to get updates from social media.
Throughout the show, there was always talk about growing their families. After all, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar welcomed 19 children.
The Duggar sisters who married off started their families pretty quickly, but it seems the Duggar sons were more ambitious as many of them had honeymoon babies.
Having as many children as possible seemed to be the goal, as the Duggars don’t believe in birth control. They think babies are a blessing from God and will continue to welcome them as long as they can — no matter the risk.
A few of the siblings have discussed adoption, though Jessa Duggar was the most vocal about wanting to adopt. However, she has five children now, so it’s unclear whether that will come to fruition for the third Duggar daughter.

How much revenue Counting On brought the Duggar family has been a hot topic recently.
The show was canceled following Josh Duggar’s most recent legal issues, which led to a fracture in the family that hasn’t been repaired.
Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard fought for their portion of the Counting On money, eventually receiving a fraction. The sum was a little above minimum wage for Jill and Derick. However, it caused irreparable damage between the couple and Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar.
While Jill wrote somewhat of a tell-all book about growing up in the Duggar family and the damage it did to her, she did it in a lighter way than she probably could have.
Jinger Duggar was the first to write a book, but it wasn’t a tell-all. She was cautious in how she worded things and made it more about how Bill Gothard and his teachings harmed her.

Jinger Duggar may be further along in her healing journey if her recent share is any indication.
The former Counting On star gushed over her mom, Michelle Duggar, in honor of Mother’s Day.
She didn’t make it back to Arkansas for the celebration, but she did boast about her “beautiful mama” on her Instagram Stories.
There’s been some speculation about the status of Jinger’s relationship with her parents following the release of her book. However, because she focused on religion and blamed Bill Gothard and his teachings, it didn’t rock the boat as much as Jill Duggar did with her book Counting the Cost.
The fourth daughter of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar seems to love her mom a lot, and this is shown in the message she shared along with the photo of them together.
Jinger wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to the most beautiful mama inside and out.

A new documentary from Investigation Discovery is exposing the culture of abuse within a group of Christian churches associated with the Duggar family. Let Us Prey: A Ministry of Scandals examines a pattern of predatory behavior within the Independent Fundamental Baptist churches and the efforts of survivors to find justice. The four-part docuseries premieres Friday, Nov. 24.
‘Let Us Prey’ exposes Ifb ‘secrets and violence’
Although the name might not be familiar to many viewers, the Independent Fundamental Baptists are a powerful force within American Christianity. Since its founding in the 1950s, the Ifb “has evolved into one of the dominant religious forces in the United States today with an estimated 8 million believers spread out over 6,000 churches across the country,” according to ID. Former reality star Jill Duggar-Dillard rose to fame on her family’s reality show, 19 Kids and Counting. Since then, she has authored two books and recently appeared in a documentary regarding her family’s deepest secrets. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar raised their 19 children inside the Iblp, a controversial ultra-conservative Christian ministry. When the Duggars first rose to fame in the early 2000s, mainstream society knew little about the Iblp. The ministry has since been exposed as a “cult-like” religious movement. While plenty of Duggars still seem to adhere to the church’s rules, some adult Duggar kids have publicly separated themselves from the ministry. These Duggars are no longer a part of the Iblp.

It was stated that Bill Gothard specifically hoped to see his ministry members in positions of political power. The statement was an interesting one to Duggar family followers. After all, several Duggar family members have shown an interest in politics. Did any of them ever get elected, though? The answer is yes.

Prime Video's new Duggar docuseries, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, is more than just a retelling of the family's rise to fame and their many scandals — it's a damning indictment of the Christian fundamentalist organization that birthed them, the Institute in Basic Life Principles, known as Iblp. For long stretches, the four-part series leaves the Duggars behind as it examines the "cult-like environment," as Jill Duggar describes it, fostered within Iblp and its homeschooling program, the Advanced Training Institute (Ati). Ex-members speak openly about the trauma they endured at Ati facilities, where many were forced into child labor, while others recall being sexually abused by Iblp founder Bill Gothard at the ministry's Chicago headquarters. (Gothard has denied all allegations of sexual abuse and harassment.)...

Amazon’s explosive docuseries, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets, has Duggar family followers talking. It has also introduced the masses to the Institute of Basic Life Principles, branded as a Christian ministry but called a cult in the docuseries. The Iblp, as its known, has had several major scandals, most revolving around its former leader. Bill Gothard previously ran the Iblp but stepped down in 2014 amid sexual misconduct allegations. While Gothard spent decades controlling the ministry, he was never really the face of it, at least not to the public. That role went to the Duggars. So, with Bill Gothard now out of power in the Iblp, we can’t help but wonder who is running the show. Officially, the Iblp is now being led by a board of directors. According to Bobye Holt, a former family friend, Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar are pulling the strings behind the scenes.

The Institute in Basic Life Principles is not happy with a new documentary about the Duggar family and their connections to the group’s controversial ministry. In a statement, the Texas-based organization called Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets “misleading and untruthful.”
Iblp calls Duggar family documentary ‘sensationalized’
Shiny Happy People examines both the Duggars – the family at the center of TLC’s popular reality series 19 Kids and Counting and Counting On – and the Iblp, a ministry founded by now-disgraced leader Bill Gothard. In interviews with Jill Duggar, people raised in Iblp families, and others, the four-episode series exposes a culture of sexual harassment and abuse within the Iblp and a pattern of abuse within some Iblp families. It also unpacks Gothard’s ultra-conservative, patriarchal teachings and the embrace of Christian nationalism by many Iblp followers.
No Iblp leaders are interviewed in the documentary. But on June 2, the group posted a statement on its website.

For many TV viewers, TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting was a feel-good look at the day-to-day life of an unusually large Arkansas family. But dad Jim Bob Duggar and his wife Michelle Duggar saw their reality show as something much more. They believed appearing on television was a way to spread the word about their ultra-conservative Christian ideology, which was grounded in the teachings of a man named Bill Gothard.
A new docuseries, Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets (out June 2 on Prime Video) draws back the curtain on both the Duggars and the inner workings of Gothard’s Institute in Basic Life Principles. In recent years, both the Duggars and Gothard have fallen from grace following sex abuse scandals. But that hasn’t stopped Jim Bob Duggar from positioning himself as Gothard’s successor. His behavior is like that of a cult leader, a former family friend says.

If you weren't living under a rock at the end of the 2000s and the start of the 2010s, you probably couldn't avoid learning about the Duggars. The family was the subject of the reality TV show "19 Kids and Counting," which ran for seven years starting in 2008, chronicling the large family's everyday lives. The Duggars were devout Christians who homeschooled all their children and disavowed birth control. Though they appeared to be a mostly happy family, it turned out that what was really happening under the surface may have been much more sinister than it seemed.
Cracks in the Duggars's facade first began to appear when Josh, the family's eldest son, confessed to molesting five girls, leading to the show's cancelation. Josh was never charged, but was arrested in 2021 and charged with receipt and possession of child pornography.
