Screen Australia usually insists that a traditional theatrical international sales agent is attached to the features in which it invests but it did not for Kath & Kimderella. Instead, sales are being handled by Royalty & Distribution Services, an existing company associated with the producers.
.Was there lots of discussion? Absolutely. But did we prove our case? Absolutely.. So says producer Rick McKenna about the negotiations with Screen Australia.
He argues that if the usual international film sales path had been followed, Kath & Kimderella would have been promoted at .two possibly three. markets, before the sales agent moved on to the next new thing. This way, the title will be exploited much more thoroughly by people closely involved in its production. He says he has encountered a lot of interest in the film and a lot of awareness of the brand, but ultimately everyone says the same thing: .We love you like...

The BBC has denied allegations of plagiarism relating to its comedy Twenty Twelve. The series, which began on Monday, stars Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes as members of the organising team preparing for the Olympic Games. Australian writers John Clarke and Ross Stevenson have now told the Sydney Morning Herald that they believe the show is based on their series The Games, which ran in 1998 and 2000. The pair also pitched the format to the BBC with the help of Kath And Kim producer Rick McKenna. Clarke and Stevenson alleged that Twenty Twelve writer John Morton had been given DVDs of their series and suggested that the claims of plagiarism are "very sound". "We haven't seen Twenty Twelve so it would be unreasonable of us to make an accusation of copying, but it's pretty clear where they got the format," Clarke said. "It (more)...

The story follow the suburban Melbourne gals on a whirlwind trip overseas which becomes a "vajazzling tale of love, lust and revolution". Unlike the 2005 telemovie "Da Kath and Kim Code", this will be a proper theatrical release.
Show stars Jane Turner and Gina Riley are penning the script and producing alongside Rick McKenna. Ted Emery will direct the film which Roadshow Films are scheduled to distribute.
The film comes a decade after the show's launch in Australia and three years after the failed American remake of the show began on NBC in 2008.

We recently reported that NBC’s remake of the Australian original Kath and Kim received poor reviews after being called “jaw-dropping awful” and having “no substance” whatsoever. The Popwatch blog on Entertainment Weekly even criticized it the show, saying, “In translating the cult hit for a stateside audience, the creators of Kath & Kim have stripped the show of its essence and edge. Overly slick, it lacks the grit and wit of the original.”
While most of you already labeled this show as a huge failure, NBC is fighting back by giving the show a full season order.

While freshmen shows are eagerly anticipating their full season orders, some have already succeeded in landing a season, or at the very least, more episodes. NBC has gone ahead to order a full season of Kath and Kim despite its mediocre ratings. In fact, the network recently expressed their thoughts on the American rendition of the Australian original created by Gina Riley, Jane Turner and Rick McKenna, saying that it is one of those shows which they truly “believe in.”
Meanwhile, another network has stepped forward to bless a show for another additional episodes order. On Friday, ABC ordered seven more episodes of Samantha Who?, which stars Christina Applegate as the titular character.
The call came following Monday's satisfactory ratings of 9.6 million viewers and a 2.7 rating among the 18-49 adult demographic. The show managed to average a steady 10.5 million viewership, with a 2.8 rating in the 18-49 adult demographic. Moreover, since its premiere,...

After a lengthy search, NBC has zeroed in on Selma Blair to star opposite Molly Shannon in its comedy pilot Kath and Kim.
Blair is in negotiations to play Kim in the Reveille/Universal Media Studios project, which was put on the fast track in June when Reveille's Ben Silverman and Teri Weinberg joined NBC as co-chairman and executive vp, respectively.
Based on the hit Australian series "Kath & Kim," the NBC comedy focuses on the dysfunctional relationship between Kath (Shannon) and her daughter Kim (Blair).
Casting the title characters has been considered crucial to the success of the show. When the project was first picked up to pilot by NBC in January 2007, it was pushed to summer because of difficulties casting the leads.
Michelle Nader, who penned the most recent pilot script, is exec producing Kath with original series creators Gina Riley and Jane Turner as well as Rick McKenna.
Following her breakthrough roles on the WB Network comedy series Zoe, Duncan, Jack & Jane and in the feature Cruel Intentions, CAA-repped Blair went on to co-star in such movies as The Sweetest Thing and Legally Blonde.
She next reprises her role as Liz Sherman in Hellboy II: The Golden Army and will appear opposite Antonio Banderas in My Mom's New Boyfriend.
