Corbis, best known for managing the rights to images of such iconic figures as Steve McQueen and the Wright Brothers, is adding talent negotiation to its list of services.
Owned by Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates, Corbis has been a competitor to Getty Images, which is being purchased by a private-equity firm for $2.1 billion.
By adding talent negotiation, Corbis hopes to sell itself as a one-stop shop for marketers in search of celebrity endorsements.
Corbis is a privately held company that boasted $50 million in revenue last year, 48% better than the previous year.
"There is phenomenal growth in the use of music and other iconic content in both advertising and consumer products," CEO Gary Shenk said.

Corbis, an image-licensing company owned by Microsoft's Bill Gates, has inked its most significant deal with a movie studio yet, saying Tuesday that it will represent all video and still images from MGM's massive library. The relationship is expected to give a higher advertising profile to such characters as the Pink Panther, James Bond and Sylvester Stallone's Rocky along with others from MGM's library of 4,200 movies. "They've got the most iconic movie moments that advertisers are interested in," said Gary Shenk, senior vp editorial image licensing and rights services at Corbis. Bill Gates-owned Corbis, overseer of the world's largest archive of imagery, has paid an undisclosed sum for the Roger Richman Agency, one of the nation's largest agencies specializing in the promotion of deceased celebrities. Corbis has rights to 70 million photos and 30,000 hours of video footage that it licenses to news services, moviemakers and other clients and has been building on its rights representation business that it started recently via partnerships with the Andy Warhol Foundation and Marvel Enterprises. The company also signed the estate of Liberace. With the acquisition of the Roger Richman Agency, though, it instantly adds 50 celebrities to its rights representation unit, said Gary Shenk, senior vp rights services at Corbis.
