Growing up, Jessica McCabe knew something about her was different.
“I was the kid staring dreamily out the window and getting lost in books and in my own world, scattered, and came home without my jacket all the time,” she says. “But I wasn’t really a troublemaker.”
That last bit was key: it’s why she didn’t get diagnosed with Adhd, which at the time was stereotyped as something “for boys” that would “only” manifest in bad behavior and bounce-off-the-walls hyperactivity, until she was 12. That year, her mother was in a serious car accident that left her badly injured. Her being in recovery meant McCabe was very suddenly on her own with handling things like homework.

Jay Shetty To Host 2nd Annual ‘Streamys Purpose Awards’, Followed By Creator Summit On Mental Health
For the second year in a row, the Streamy Awards will recognize digital creators, brands, and nonprofits who have used their influence for a greater good during the Streamys Purpose Awards -- an offshoot of the eight-year-old awards show franchise.
This year’s Purpose Awards will be hosted by Jay Shetty -- a monk-turned-inspirational content creator who counts upwards of 10 million followers across all social platforms, as well as 1 billion lifetime video views.
Shetty will hand out a number of honors during the luncheon ceremony on Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles. Those honored by the Streamys Purpose Awards this year include Tyler Oakley for his tireless advocacy work on behalf of the Lgbtq community. And nominees in the 'Creator' category include Mike Rowe (whose Facebook Watch series Returning The Favor chronicles people across America giving back to their communities), as well as anti-bullying activist Molly Burke, and burn survivor-turned-beauty vlogger Shalom Blac.

For the second annual installment of The Child Mind Institute’s #MyYoungerSelf social media campaign, the organization once again brought together more than three dozen actors, Olympians, authors, comedians, advocates and other influencers to share the advice they would give their younger selves about growing up with a a major affliction.
“I’m here to tell you that I am a Ptsd survivor, thriver, bad ass m f—-er,” Union says in a homemade video.
