Sohum Shah who made his debut with the well acclaimed film Ship Of Theseus, will soon be seen in his forthcoming release titled “Tumbad”. Produced by Recyclewala Films, it marks the directorial debut of Rahi Anil Barve whose short film ‘Manjha’ was released by Danny Boyle with the ‘Slumdog Millionare’ Blu-Ray. Some portions of Tumbad, which is scheduled to release worldwide next year, were screened at the Nfdc Film Bazaar in Goa, where it was acknowledged as a visual masterpiece by those present.
Sohum, who garnered unequivocal praise for his performance of a stockbroker in Ship of Theseus, has undergone an extensive physical transformation for Tumbad. “It is a dark period thriller set against colonial India, infused with elements of fantasy. I had to bulk up for my role by following a strict regimen to stay true to the physicality prevalent in 1930s India” said the actor-producer.

Anand Gandhi and Sohum Shah’s Recyclewala Films is branching out with a slate of new projects and the launch of several tech-oriented initiatives, including a transmedia arm.
The Mumbai-based company has also announced that it will upload its debut film, award-wining drama Ship Of Theseus, along with more than six hours raw footage – inviting filmmakers to create their own interpretation. The winning versions will be showcased at a film festival in Mumbai.
The Recyclewala Transmedia Lab will create stories across multiple platforms including web portals, books and games. Mentored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the Recyclewala Tech Labs will provide technology support for projects created by the transmedia arm.
“Most people are now consuming content online, so we need to experiment with narrative forms that are appropriate for this new medium,” Gandhi told Screen.
