Mike Judges’s previous work hangs heavy over Extract. Mike Judge is probably most loved for creating Beavis and Butthead but his 1999 film Office Space also has a lot of fans. Office Space is a much loved comedy that since it’s release has garnered a slow burning cult following. In addition to Beavis and Butthead and Office Space, Mike Judge also executive produced the somewhat uneven King of the Hill, the incredibly disappointing The Goode Family and directed the feature film Idiocracy. Although there were elements of Idiocracy that were enjoyable it failed in more places than it succeeded. Released in America last year but in the UK on Friday comes his latest project, the feature film Extract.

I guess extract of wife.s sweatpants was not destined to be a popular flavor. Mike Judge.s latest theatrical experience still has some idiocracy, but the laughs are not as many as that previous effort does it does offer funny moments. Joel Reynolds (Jason Bateman) needs some flavor in his life. He runs a semi-successful extract business, but his marriage to Suzie (Kristen Wiig) has grown routine. He tries to get home before 8 p.m. because if Suzie has put on her sweatpants there.s no chance of romance - not that there was much chance before that magic hour it would appear. Joel drowns his troubles at the local hotel bar and seeks the shoulder of his bartender...

Mike Judge created a cult classic with his film Office Space (1999), and while his latest effort, Extract (2009), isn't quite good enough (or bad enough) to earn the cult classic label, it's amusing enough if you're into (really-really) low-key comedies. Out now on DVD and Blu-ray from Buena Vista Home Entertainment, Extract stars Jason Bateman as Joel Reynolds, a decent guy who's built a lucrative food extracts business and is on the verge of making a killing by selling it to General Mills. However, what should be an exciting time for him is actually far, far from it. Selling the company may mean the end of the road for many of Joel's long-time employees, a gossipy, semi-dysfunctional group of men and women. His wife (Kristin Wiig) has no interest in having sex, at least not with him. One ambitious employee (Clifton Collins, Jr.) plans a major lawsuit after an on-the-job accident...

Extract
Starring Jason Bateman, Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis, and Kristen Wiig
Directed by Mike Judge
Rated R
It's a strange feeling rooting for a movie you want to be better than it is but that never really gets there. Mike Judge has had a big impact on the world of comedy in the past 20 years, thanks to Beavis and Butt-Head, Office Space, and King of the Hill, but he isn't given as much credit for those distinct creations as he should.
His new film Extract finds Judge showing off some of the best of his abilities, returning him to a comedy about life of a job as in Office Space while adding the worn-in hometown vibe of King of the Hill. And the movie is funny and pleasant. But that's about all it musters.
Much of why the film is a bit milquetoast is thanks to Joel Reynolds (Jason Bateman...

For Mike Judge, the world is divided into the fringe - and then everyone else. His movies don't center around young urban professionals living angst-filled lives in the big city, or high powered businessmen transacting trepidation from their unsure international connections. No, for the man responsible for a couple of backward adolescent metal heads named Beavis and Butthead, the marginalized members of society offer a far more appealing source of inspiration. The working Joes, the suffering single mothers - these are the people he wants to party with. And in his latest live action film, Extract, that's exactly what he does. Within the small Texas town where flavoring manufacturer Joel Reynolds has set up shop, an entire universe of karma, pro and con, is about to unravel - and Judge can't wait to show us how it happens. Things are not going well for our eager entrepreneur. He is married...

If Labor Day's coming up, that must mean there's a new Mike Judge movie on the way. It's also that time of year when a few distributors dust off some well-traveled festival films as the summer winds down and the start of the school year is underway.

Hollywood has not been kind to Mike Judge. About his live-action directorial debut, 1999's "Office Space," a studio executive told Judge, "Nobody wants to see your little movie about ordinary people and their boring lives." The comedy, with its Tps reports and stapler-coveting drones, went on to become a cult smash. Judge's last movie, "Idiocracy," was shelved for a year before receiving a token theatrical release from 20th Century Fox.
