Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.
Among the shows, this will rep the 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU,” the 24th season of “Law & Order,” Season 13 for “Chicago Fire,” the 12th season for “Chicago PD” and the 10th season for “Chicago Med.” All of the renewed series are produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television division, along with Wolf Entertainment, and all shows stream the following day on Peacock. NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. Chicago Med will hit double digits with its 10th season, Fire will air its 13th and Pd its 12th.

Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu will be back for the 2024-25 season after NBC renewed the pair of shows but spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime is in a slightly more precarious position.
The network has renewed Law & Order for Season 24, while Law & Order: Svu will be back for Season 26.
The future of Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is in its fourth season, is still in discussion at the network. It has been the lowest rated of Dick Wolf’s NBC shows and has had a number of showrunners over its course. Matt Olmstead started out as showrunner, replaced by Ilene Chaiken, who was replaced by Barry O’Brien. Bryan Goluboff was named showrunner for Season 3 but left after three months, replaced by Sean Jablonski, who also left shortly after due to “creative differences” and was replaced by David Graziano. John Shiban is showrunner for Season 4.

The one Law & Order: Svu character that TVLine readers ask about the most is Det. Terry Bruno, played by Kevin Kane. And we get it: A recurring role in the Bensonverse since Season 24, in addition to a few one-off appearances as different characters before that, has made Kane a full-time member of the squad (even if he technically remains a guest star). Add in Kane’s portrayal of his intriguing character — a cop who’s so rich he never has to work another day in his life, yet chooses to show up for the most grueling of cases?...

Law & Order hasn’t been worried about tackling controversial issues regarding police officers, some of it reflecting real-world events. This was important as showrunner Warren Leight wondered if shows like his offered a one-sided look at law enforcement.

Writers have returned to work on the Dick Wolf-produced TV franchises “Law & Order,” “FBI” and “Chicago Fire,” Wolf Entertainment announced on Wednesday.
The WGA strike, which had lasted 148 days, ended on Sept. 24 after the guild came to a deal with the AMPTP regarding streaming residuals, AI protections and other key issues.
Meanwhile, showrunners have been shuffled across the Dick Wolf universe: “Chicago Fire” goes into Season 12 on NBC with lone showrunner Andrea Newman, who formerly ran the show along with Derek Haas. CBS’ “FBI International” has promoted Matt Olmstead from executive producer to showrunner for Season 3.
The Christopher Meloni-led “Law & Order: Organized Crime” has not yet named a new showrunner after the exit of Sean Jablonski in March. David Graziano, who returns as “Svu” showrunner for Season 25 of the Mariska Hargitay-starring series, had stepped in to oversee the final three episodes of the “Oc” Season 3.

Bradley Whitford is going up against Olivia Benson. The actor will guest star as a professor struggling with early-onset dementia who confesses to a murder on the Feb. 23 episode of NBC’s “Law & Order: Svu.” The episode will be directed by Mariska Hargitay.
Whitford currently stars as Commander Lawrence in Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale.” He made his directorial debut during Season 5’s penultimate episode, “Allegiance.” He will next star in AMC’s “Parish.”
Whitford is the latest addition to an ever-changing “Law & Order: Svu.” The procedural drama, currently in its 24th season, recently said goodbye to longtime cast member Kelli Giddish, who played Detective Amanda Rollins for more than a decade.
“I started playing her in my late 20s, so I’ve played her in three decades of my life, which is nuts. It’s insane. This is a show unlike any other,” Giddish told Variety after...

When “Law and Order: Svu” fans learned Kelli Giddish would exit the series just halfway through Season 24, rumors flew.
The actress played Amanda Rollins — an overhasty rookie turned senior detective and fan favorite — for more than eleven years on the legendary crime show: part of Dick Wolf’s sprawling (if intensely controversial) Law and Order universe at NBC. The character’s sudden departure was reportedly ordered from the top down, per Variety. The decision was attributed to salary negotiations, but also broader directives about the future of the TV franchise. Star Mariska Hargitay, who has portrayed pop culture icon Olivia Benson since the show premiered in 1999, was said to have opposed the move.
Asked about the decision in the wake of Rollins’ “Svu” goodbye, titled “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree,” Giddish told IndieWire: “I’m just so happy with last night and with the way this season especially has gone.

Fans of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” were shook when star Kelli Giddish revealed she’d be leaving the show, ending her 12-season run as NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins.
While Giddish announced the news back in August, Variety subsequently alleged that the decision to leave wasn’t hers, but came at the behest of showrunner David Graziano when her salary negotiations hit a stalemate.
Giddish’s final episode of “Svu” aired on Thursday, Dec. 8, and she spoke with Et Canada about her exit — and offered some hope for a potential return at some point.

David Graziano, the current showrunner of the long-running Dick Wolf crime-drama Law & Order: Svu, has been accused of workplace misconduct, including bullying, volatile behavior, and misogyny. A Los Angeles Times report published on Thursday, December 8, states that more than a dozen people who have worked with Graziano over the years have accused him of mistreatment in the workplace. The claims include making inappropriate and demeaning comments toward women and people of color, as well as angry outbursts and disrespect towards subordinate staffers. Graziano was named Law & Order: Svu showrunner back in June, ahead of the popular NBC drama’s 24th season. But controversy soon followed. Not long after Graziano accepted the role, the show’s script coordinator, Haley Cameron, exited the series. According to The Times report, claims against Graziano began appearing on an industry listserv after an advertisement for the script coordinator position was posted. “The new showrunner,...

Spoiler Alert: This story includes discussion of major plot points from the Dec. 8 “Law & Order: Svu” episode on NBC.
Kelli Giddish has officially left “Law & Order: Svu.” During Thursday night’s winter finale, Giddish’s Detective Rollins decided to leave her job with the unit for a teaching gig at Fordham.
The episode kicked off with Rollins marrying Peter Scanavino’s Carisi in a courthouse wedding. After the wedding, Rollins drives to see Det. Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the pair get drunk in a motel room together. After many glasses of boxed wine, she tells her boss about the job offer.
“You taught me how to be a good detective,” Rollins says. “You taught me how to love myself and how to let people in — the victims and Carisi.”
At first, Benson gets upset and Rollins leaves. They later talk at work and Benson apologizes for reacting so harshly.

David Graziano, who was named the new showrunner of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” ahead of its record 24th season, has been accused of creating “toxic” work environments and of inappropriate behavior and comments on his previous series, the Los Angeles Times reported on Thursday.
According to the article, the allegations of bullying date back at least 10 years.
“The implication that Mr. Graziano created a hostile work environment, or is sexist, inappropriate and unprofessional is false,” his spokesperson Alafair Hall told TheWrap. “‘Please,’ ‘thank you,’ and ‘excuse me,’ are words seldom heard in writers’ rooms where the focus is murder.”
When the news that “Svu” had tapped Graziano broke, Amy Hartman, who worked as a script coordinator on his Paramount drama “Coyote,” wrote on an email thread, “Graz is super toxic and I’ve never run from a job so fast in my life as I did when I Sc’ed for him.

Fans are still absorbing the shock after Kelli Giddish confirmed in August she would turn in her badge, 11 years into her role as Svu’s Det. Amanda Rollins. The actress has called the job “one of the greatest joys and privileges of my life.” The nuanced cop brought justice to victims while managing toxic family members, a gambling addiction, relationship issues, single parenthood, and her own trauma of rape. By December 8’s fall finale, showrunner David Graziano says, Rollins has resolved to leave the force after the wake-up bullet she took in the season premiere and “try her hand at teaching” forensics psychology at a local university. She was invited to give a lecture on the subject, and everyone loved her presentation. First, however, she needs the Ok of Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), her mentor and rock. Law & Order: Svu Season 24’s second episode finds Benson in the Bronx for a sex-crimes case involving gang activity. There’s another change coming in the Dick Wolf universe. Sean Jablonski is stepping in as the new showrunner on “Law & Order: Organized Crime” for the upcoming third season, Variety has learned.
Jablonski becomes the fifth showrunner on the series, replacing Bryan Goluboff, who was announced as the Season 3 showrunner in May. Barry O’Brien had been named interim showrunner in February following the exit of Ilene Chaiken. Prior to Chaiken, Matt Olmstead was showrunner.
“Law & Order: Organized Crime,” produced by Universal Television in association with Wolf Entertainment, revolves around the character of Elliot Stabler, played by Christopher Meloni, who starred on “Svu” for 12 seasons, and then returned to the “Law & Order” universe in 2021. Because of Stabler’s longstanding relationship with “Svu’s” Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) — something fans have obsessed over for years now — those two shows have frequently intersected since “Organized Crime” premiered.

Sean Jablonski is taking over as the new showrunner of “Law & Order: Organized Crime” just three weeks before the third season premiere, NBC confirmed to TheWrap Thursday evening.
He replaces Bryan Goluboff, who was named to the post in May. Jablonski previously served as executive producer and showrunner of Netflix’s “Gypsy” and History Channel’s “Project Blue Book.” He created and executive produced “Satisfaction,” which ran for two seasons on USA Network.
He’s already banked 20 episodes in the franchise as producer on the original “Law & Order” series from 2001-2002.
The third season of “Organized Crime” premieres on Sept. 22 in a three-series crossover event with “Law & Order” and “Svu.”

Kelli Giddish to leave Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in Season 24. Pic credit: NBC
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit fans now know when Amanda Rollins is her bidding farewell.
In an Instagram talk, showrunner David Graziano confirmed that Episode 9 of Season 24 would be Kelli Giddish’s last on the series.
This comes amid controversy as reports indicate that Giddish’s leaving the series was not the actress’ choice but pushed on her by “higher-ups” within either NBC or Wolf Entertainment.
So far, Giddish has not responded to the reports, but co-star Mariska Hargitay has shared some unique thoughts of her own.
Now, Graziano shared how Hargitay helped him in this “rough” time while giving hints to how Rollins’ story can end.
This may not soothe some fans’ feelings about the exit, but it promises Rollins will have a good sendoff to honor the character.

If you’ve watched Law & Order: Svu at any point over the last twelve years, you’re likely quite familiar with NYPD Detective Amanda Rollins. Kelli Giddish, who has played Rollins since the thirteenth season of Law & Order: Svu, announced last week that she would be leaving the show, but according to Variety, it wasn’t entirely her choice.
Variety reported that Kelli Giddish’s exit from Law & Order: Svu wasn’t a decision made by showrunner David Graziano, but rather by someone higher up. One insider said that “the company is always looking to keep the show as up to date and current as possible,” whatever that means. Variety also said that Mariska Hargitay, who has starred in the series from day one and is an executive producer, tried to keep Kelli Giddish on the show but was unsuccessful. Salary negotiations were also said to play a part when...

Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Stabler (Christopher Meloni) react to a case on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Pic credit: NBC
Law & Order fans will get some major Benson-Stabler drama this season.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit showrunner David Graziano and Law & Order: Organized Crime showrunner Bryan Goluboff have shared how some coming crossovers will bring the relationship of Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) to a new level.
That will include Benson learning more of what Stabler was up to since leaving the NYPD a decade ago. Meanwhile, Stabler will be learning more about Benson’s romances since they last parted.
This will connect in both the big three-part Law & Order crossover that kicks off the seasons on September 22 and some future interaction, perhaps before Christmas.
However, it’s possible this may not lead to a full romance but rather more drama, particularly with hints a tragedy...

Mariska Hargitay is throwing more fuel on the fire regarding Kelli Giddish’s controversial exit from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
While the star and producer of the hit drama has not issued a public statement, she did post two entries on her Instagram Stories about Giddish after the actress announced she was leaving the series.
The first was a simple post of the pair together from a fan account showing them in good times. The second was an intriguing quote that hinted there was more to Giddih’s exit than there seemed.
This coincides with a Variety report that Giddish did not choose to leave the show but was forced out in an attempt to make it more “current.”
As this unfolded, Hargitay’s former co-star, Christopher Meloni, shared behind-the-scenes images of...

Kelli Giddish leaving as Amanda Rollins on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Pic credit: NBC
Kelli Giddish’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit exit may not have been her choice after all.
Just days after the actress’ stunning announcement she was leaving the series, a Variety report indicates the decision to write out Amanda Rollins was actually made by higher-ups within NBC.
Giddish leaving the series after 12 seasons was a surprise with little to indicate she wanted to leave the role she clearly enjoyed.
According to the report, the issues involved salary disputes and a decision to “freshen up” the series.
Mariska Hargitay reportedly fought to keep Giddish on alongside at least one producer, but the decision was out of the hands of both her and new showrunner David Graziano.
It throws new light on the sudden departure as it now appears writing out Rollins was not the actress’ choice but forced on her.

As Law & Order: Svu fans react to the news of Kelli Giddish's imminent departure, a surprising new revelation has come to light.
Variety reported Thursday that the veteran actress had no say in the decision to write the character of Rollins out of the series.
Additionally, the outlet reports that series lead Mariska Hargitay and at least one other producer pushed for the series to keep Giddish on the cast.
It's unclear why the actress was let go, but "salary negotiations and her future on the show were part of the conversation and, ultimately, a compromise couldn't be made."
Showrunner David Graziano is also said to not have had a say in the decision.
Graziano is taking over the series from Warren Leight this season and had to contend with criticism on his social media channels after news of Giddish's exit was announced.
