“It’s absolutely clear, there is a real appetite for British independent cinema in France,” said artistic director Dominque Green.
Sasha Polak’s Silver Haze scooped the top prize at this month’s Dinard Film Festival, the French seaside festival that spotlights UK and Irish cinema for French audiences, that ran from September 27 to October 1.
Berlinale Panorama title Silver Haze won the Golden Hitchcock for best film. Polak’s feature reunites the Dutch filmmaker with UK actor Vicky Knight, after working together on Dirty God in 2019. It is loosely based on Knight’s own experience as a child, in which she survived an arson attack.

There’s not enough Eddie Izzard to go around. The comedian has his hands in quite a number of pots right now. Having appeared as a supporting player in films like Ocean’s Twelve and Valkyrie – not to mention his stand-up comedy and star-turn in the short-lived series The Riches – Izzard has also turned to writing and producing, as well as acting. He’s worked on NBC’s Hannibal and Munsters reboot Mockingbird Lane, and is set to appear in the comics adaptation Powers. Now, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Izzard is set to adapt Timothy Hallinan’s crime-comedy novel series Junior Bender for the small screen.
NBC has secured Izzard to co-write Junior Bender alongside Royal Pains executive producer Jessica Bell, and frequent Izzard collaborator Sarah Townsend. The project focuses on a high-end thief in Los Angeles who moonlights as a private-eye for criminals – when the crooks can’t go to the cops,...

Washington, Jan 30: A new research has found that stressed out people can reduce their worries if they share their problems with people who feel the same way in a similar situation.
Sarah Townsend, from USC Marshall School of Business, said that one of her study's main discoveries is the benefit gained by spending time and conversing with someone whose emotional response is in line with yours.
For instance, when you're putting together an important presentation or working on a high-stakes project, these are situations that can be threatening and you may experience heightened stress, but talking with a colleague who shares your emotional state can help decrease this stress, Townsend said.
For the study, Townsend.

I have been a die-hard fan of Eddie Izzard since around the age of 14. As is often the case with chance encounters, I discovered his back catalogue in completely the wrong order, by first watching Glorious and then Unrepeatable, followed by Definite Article.
It is safe to say that this non-linear approach to his work only increased the appeal, and made me more determined to find out more about the man who had introduced me so perfectly, at such a young age, to the world of observational and alternative comedy.
Since then, Eddie Izzard, for me, has been catapulted into ‘hero’ status. There isn’t a stand-up performance I haven’t seen, or a film review I haven’t read - if it is any way concerned with him,...

He's a transvestite, heterosexual standup comic and actor who ran 43 marathons in 51 days – as a new DVD documentary makes clear, Eddie Izzard's life has been far from predictable
I noticed something which only a person reading a whole load of Eddie Izzard interviews in one go would ever notice: journalists always talk about his body. Is he fat or thin? Sorry, "heavy" or "sculpted"? Is he wearing men's clothes or women's, are they nice or scruffy?
He comes in for the kind of pretend-neutral, old-fashioned, nostrils-flared appraisal that women get and men almost never do. It's almost as if being a transvestite has unleashed the forces of sexism against him. I met him at the offices of his production company, in London, where he's promoting the DVD release of Believe, a film about the story of his life. He looks great, by the way, but let's leave it at that.

Believe is a documentary following British comedian Eddie Izzard as he delves into his past, the loss of his mother when he was a young boy, his frankly incredible feat of carving a name for himself on the British, and subsequently international, comedy and film scenes.
He has created, almost single handedly and with sheer determination, what is now one of the best and most prolific careers of any British performer.

Biopics are normally saved for the icons that are old and wrinkled octogenarians reflecting back on their life of accomplishments. But what if through sheer grit, determination, talent and an unyielding belief in yourself, you've managed to cram all that life and success into half a lifetime? Sarah Townsend began working with Eddie Izzard back at the Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in the 80s when he could barely get a time slot, if a laugh. Her career as a budding theater director and filmmaker followed a similar trajectory as the two learned by trying and failing and trying again. Sarah began filming Eddie's journey and what culminated over the past ten plus years is the documentary Believe. The film is an Emmy nominated, uplifting look of how a transvestite street performer can become one of the most iconic and lauded...

There’s a very good reason why we called the film "Believe."
It would have been so easy simply to call it "The Eddie Izzard Story." It's the story of Eddie Izzard: It does just what it says on the tin.
When I started filming, Eddie was suffering a huge personal and career crisis. He’d been called a fraud, a failure.
I followed him until the moment, four years later...

I know, I know: "Why does Eddie Izzard need his own documentary?" You'd be surprised. It's quite the inspiration, really -- motivational substance for people who hate that kind of stuff.
