NewsCorp will stop broadcasting its Talk TV television channel in the United Kingdom and transition the network to an online-only operation, the company affirmed on Tuesday.
The move was announced about a month after the network’s biggest prime-time host Piers Morgan quit Talk TV in favor of producing his own YouTube videos.
Scott Taunton, the president of Talk TV, said the move was necessitated by shifting consumer trends in the United Kingdom, which have seen more TV viewers move away from broadcast and cable channels in favor of streaming services.
“Two years ago, we would not have been brave enough to launch a channel without a linear presence, but audiences of all ages have moved fast and smartphones are now the primary device where news is consumed,” Taunton said...

Rupert Murdoch’s TalkTV is going online-only two years after launching with fanfare and following the suit of its star presenter Piers Morgan.
“Two years ago, we would not have been brave enough to launch a channel without a linear presence, but audiences of all ages have moved fast and smartphones are now the primary device where news is consumed,” said a note to staff from TalkTV-owner News UK’s Broadcasting President Scott Taunton, reported by Guido Fawkes. “We need to adapt to this as a priority. We are therefore intending that Talk comes off linear television from early summer and our focus will be on streaming.”
Linear TV has been “a good marketing and awareness window” for TalkTV but investment needs to be focused “where the eyeballs are,” added Taunton.
The news won’t come as a huge surprise to keen followers of the British media landscape following Morgan...

Updated: Piers Morgan said that he is ending his TalkTV show on British TV and instead will do a YouTube series.
In a statement, Morgan said that the “vast majority” of the audience for Piers Morgan Uncensored is on their YouTube channel, with 2.3 million subscribers “and many millions of views for our big interviews and debates.”
“This, in turn, has generated increasingly strong revenue, making the business case for this digital-first pivot not just compelling but imperative,” he said.
“It’s clear there’s a huge global demand for the content we’re making, but the commitment to a daily show at a fixed schedule, with all the editing and time sensitivities that involves, has been an increasingly unnecessary straitjacket.”
Morgan told Semafor, which first reported on the move, that he “just decided that I no longer want to create my show for linear television — I just want to go full digital globally.
