Something about Eviana's nostalgia can get you in the feelings every time.
Mariana's storyline is that sweet treat in Good Trouble Season 5 Episode 13 that we longed to return to as we indulged in another perfunctory hour.
It blended nostalgia with a spark of hope amid Alice and Malika's career obstacles and triumphs, and besties Gael and Davia were influenced or inspired by new individuals in their lives.
In short, Mariana's simple enough arc of navigating her new partnership with Evan as Co-CEO of Speckulate while quietly unpacking and potentially reigniting how their dynamic has shifted was what buoyed a run-of-the-mill installment.
And the switch-ups in storylines and character focus felt a bit closer to what we've come to expect from the series than not.

It's already difficult to even think about saying goodbye to The Coterie.
It's especially tough when Cierra Ramirez keeps delivering such raw and impressive performances.
And keeping with the general dark tone of the season, Good Trouble Season 5 Episode 11 was a nerve-wracking, frustrating, emotional, and ominous opener as we head into the final installments of this series.
One can always anticipate the mood the hour will set when we get the eerily slow and ominous opening credits.
The hour gives us some interesting developments. For one, Mariana and Malika are two characters who never interacted nearly as much as some of the others.
Initially, it was surprising to learn that Malika Williams was giving up her room to Isaac and intended to stay with Mariana.
It made sense logistically, but because they barely came across as friends, it didn't feel within the realm of possible until this scenario.

It's remarkable to think that a decade-long franchise will be coming to an end.
When Good Trouble hangs the key on the hook at the Coterie, it will mark the end of The Fosters franchise and its enduring legacy.
It's hard to even put into words what it will mean to close the chapter on such a monumental and influential franchise that has spanned two series and to say goodbye to the Adams-Fosters specifically.
We had the opportunity to follow Callie and Mariana Adams Foster from their adolescence into adulthood.
The closing of this saga also harkens to the void in primetime television as family dramas continue to sign off with nothing left in their wake.
My colleague, Jack Ori, has previously lamented the loss of family dramas, which I heartily agree with. From the end of Blue Bloods to This is Us and A Million Things, we're missing out...

Malika Williams is living her best life.
If you've been tuning into Good Trouble, then you've seen that this beloved character has had quite the journey with balancing activism, working through her trauma, and falling in love.
This season, Malika explores her sexuality and love styles in her first polyamorous relationship with Dyonte.
Of course, it isn't coming without its fair share of challenges and obstacles for Malika, as we saw on Good Trouble Season 3 Episode 16.
It's good vibes only with the radiant Zuri Adele, whom we caught up with to get the 411 on all things Malika.
Was the polyamory storyline always in the cards for Malika? How did that come to be? It's interesting to explore because you don't see that too often.
Yeah, which is why I'm so glad that we're exploring it. I haven't seen it often on television, especially from a millennial perspective -- from a Black perspective.

As a Black woman who loves TV, I'm always going to give a show starring another Black woman a chance. I do so, holding my breath, and hoping that the character won't be another mammy figure who only appears when her white costars need sassy advice or someone to take care of them. When Good Trouble premiered in January 2019, Zuri Adele's Malika Williams was front-and-center of all promotion. She was completely different from what had become the norm for Black characters on Gen-z-focused series: dark-skinned with tightly coiled natural hair and a refusal to let anyone get in her way.
From her first scene, it's clear that Malika is different from her onscreen peers. She's politically aware in a way that Black women generally have no choice but to be, with a story of familial woes that strays close to cliche territory when it comes to...

Living with siblings can be a pain, but Good Trouble's Mariana and Callie Adams-Foster take rubbing each other the wrong way to a whole new level. Although, if you watched the two grow up on the Freeform family show The Fosters, you know it could be much worse. "At the end of the day, these girls really love and need each other, and I don't think they understand that right now," Good Trouble star Cierra Ramirez told Popsugar during a phone call ahead of the spinoff show's return from Summer break. "It'll be interesting to see how that progresses and [how they come to] that realization during the rest of the season."
The last time we see the sisters in the season 2A finale, Callie (Maia Mitchell) tells Mariana (Ramirez) that she's moving out of the Coterie to live with boyfriend Jamie Hunter (Beau Mirchoff). The drastic move could be seen coming...

It was one of the best balanced hours of the season.
Coterie group scenes and hours are always a special treat, but when it comes to moving the plot along with all of the primary characters, Good Trouble Season 2 Episode 7 nailed it.
The hour balanced out Coterie drama and whatever is happening in the real world outside of the house.
It was a nice change of pace moving Malika away from the bar and having her pursue a different job. It pays the bills, but it's not something she's passionate about, and I always wondered what would be of interest for her.
Panoptic Threads was the type of company she would've wanted to work for on paper. Their marketing was inclusive and meant to appeal to all people.

When Malika first sat down for the interview, the assumption was they recognized her from the Jamal Thompson protests.
