Although the “Black Dawn” story arc currently unfolding in the pages of Superman may not be as strong as previous offerings, we can probably all agree that it’s still a decent read and that the creative team of Peter J. Tomasi, Pat Gleason and Doug Mahnke haven’t really steered us wrong since taking the wheel at the start of Rebirth.
If you’ve been keeping up with the title, you’re well aware that the Kent family’s neighbor who looks an awful lot like Wilford Brimley isn’t exactly what he seems to be and has so far succeeded in getting the drop on Batman and Superman alike. And from what we can tell, a mysterious force is pulling the strings of both him and the townsfolk.

If there were ever such a thing as a “must read,” I’d have to say that Action Comics #975 would certainly be it. Not only is it a great comic book to begin with, but it also pulls back the curtain on one of the most intriguing mysteries DC has been gestating since last summer – and not just those contained to the Superman line of books.
For those not up to speed, the pre-Flashpoint Superman – who has been living on Earth 0 in secret – stepped out of the shadows upon the death of his New 52 counterpart to assure this planet is not without a Man of Steel. But, much to the surprise of him and others, a non-powered Clark Kent also publicly emerged, effectively confounding readers everywhere.

I can say with the utmost confidence that the Superman family of titles are among the best DC has to offer right now. Not only do they boast some of the finest creative talent the publisher currently employs, but they also contain some of the young Rebirth era’s most compelling mysteries. Needless to say, any time a new issue of Superman or Action Comics arrive, it’s guaranteed to be placed at the top of my reading pile.
Although June 2016 may not seem like that long ago, anyone who vehemently follows any serialized television show or comic book can attest to how that feels like a dog’s age when you’re waiting for a long gestating plot point to fully play out. So, if you can relate and also happen to follow these books, then you know what a big deal the “Superman: Reborn” crossover is.

Is it just me or have the Superman line of books been on fire since Rebirth launched last summer? Seriously, every issue put forth instantly goes near the top of my reading pile each week and I just can’t get enough.
Knowing that the “Superman Reborn” crossover – a four-issue arc set to span the pages of both Superman and Action Comics all throughout March – is set to kick off in a matter of weeks, I highly doubt my enthusiasm will subside anytime soon. I mean, it’s much more than the fact that Big Blue is getting a new costume when this is all over – this event will likely be a game changer for the Man of Steel and his supporting cast.
If anything, three things can be taken away from the preview gallery DC has...

Despite The New 52’s success, DC’s reboot of its line of books divided the fanbase, causing many to believe that the publisher’s rich history had been jettisoned in order to make way for a darker, more Christopher Nolan-esque universe. Then, to the delight of many, Geoff Johns spearheaded the Rebirth initiative that kicked off last June and brought back the sense of optimism some felt had been lost in addition to embracing more classical elements.
Now that we’re deep into the relaunch, the time has come to start rolling out the first wave of collected editions. In order to help get the word out, they’ve cut a handful of trailers that feature artwork from various series and pull quotes related to each. Leading the pack, obviously, is Batman.

If I can say anything about the Superman family of titles, it’s that they have consistently been some of the best comic books DC has put out since the Rebirth era kicked off last June. And even though both Superman and Action Comics essentially share the same cast of characters, the difference in tone has made for two markedly different – yet equally spectacular – ongoings.
Interestingly enough, the latest issue to come from Peter J. Tomasi and Pat Gleason is seemingly less domestic than those that preceded it and gets a bit, shall we say, extradimensional when none other than Red Son Superman puts in an appearance.

I was rather upset at the news that DC would be killing off Damian Wayne. I really didn’t see why they should off the character just when he was hitting his prime. Everybody knows that nobody stays dead in comic books so it was just a matter of time before he popped up again somehow. That somehow was Andy Kubert’s “What If?”-styled limited series Damian: Son of Batman.
The graphic novel edition simply entitled Damian: Son of Batman Deluxe Edition collects the four issue series combined with Batman #666 and #700. The book explores the idea of Damian Wayne surviving his run-in with Leviathan. He’s now living with the pain and grief that his father was taken from him. He dons a personalized Batman costume and hunts down criminals in Gotham City every night with one goal on his mind. He doesn’t get the police or the...

Batman and Robin has always been a book about the strained-yet-perfect pairing of the most legendary crime fighting duo in the comic world. Batman and Robin Annual #2 captures the essence of the relationship the Dark Knight has with all the partners he's worked with over the years that wore the red, yellow, and green costume. It serves as a tribute to the first man to don the outfit as well as the last, Damian Wayne.
While doing some cleaning, Alfred and Bruce Wayne come across an unopened box left by Damian Wayne. A note is attached to the package stating its contents are payback for having to listen to Dick Grayson's long drawn-out story about his first week as Robin. Bruce asks Dick to come to the Manor so they can open the box together. Upon seeing it, Grayson recalls the story he told Damian and shares it with Bruce.

What better to way to open up the 75th anniversary year for Batman than to start it off with a celebration of the 27th issue of Detective Comics through 27 tales taking up 96 pages? I'm sure many readers might know that the Dark Knight made his debut in the pages of Detective Comics in 1939. However, it never hurts to educate newer enthusiasts and that's exactly what the writers and artists do in this issue.
Writers featured in Detective Comics #27 include Brad Meltzer, Gregg Hurwitz, Peter J. Tomasi, Francesco Francavilla, Mike Barr, John Layman, and Scott Snyder. Each one uses their talents to spin a yarn which pays tribute to the Caped Crusader and his 75 year legacy of crimefighting. I found myself emotionally touched by certain of the more sentimental stories.

DC Comics surprised their legions of fans today when they revealed that Carrie Kelley, the female Robin from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, will in fact be joining the New 52 universe in “Batman and Robin” #19. Originally introduced in Miller’s 1986 hit series, Kelley has come to be known by fans as the first full-time female Robin, stepping up to help an aging Batman reclaim Gotham in the not-too-distant dystopian future. Now, it appears that the character will be making the big leap into the present-day New 52 universe as revealed by the special gatefold cover for “Batman and Robin” #19.
Fans are aware that Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, although a classic tale in it’s own right, was never a part of the traditional Batman continuity established in the comics and instead fell more in line with DC’s ‘Elseworlds’ imprint. This means that the addition of...

Spoilers! (Only if you’ve been living in your own Bat-cave that is…)
It was a bold move for writer Grant Morrison to introduce an illegitimate love-child to Bruce Wayne, but then again Grant Morrison is a bold man (is bold the word I’m looking for?). Even bolder still was Grant Morrison’s decision to cap off his eight year Bat-Epic with the death of Bruce Wayne’s only son.
When Damian Wayne, aka Robin, was first introduced to the pages of Batman by Morrison results were mixed. Damian was an apple that had fallen far from the tree, basically he was a smart ass with a dark side and perpetual stick up his butt. Yet over the years Damian grew to be so much more than that. His darker outlook and confrontational attitude turned out to be a breath of fresh air that the Bat-franchise sorely needed.

The Middleman missed its target – but only in one way: its audience. Why The Middleman ended up on ABC Family I’ll never understand. Finally a show comes along that caters to the superhero-quipping, sci-fi-obsessed, movie-worshipping crowd and it goes almost completely unnoticed and unadvertised on a family oriented channel. The Middleman will become a cult classic – that much is almost guaranteed by having an episode inciting a “Nakatomi Plaza Protocol” – if word of its greatness ever manages to get out.

Diving to safety, Wendy Watson (Natalie Morales) keeps the monster at bay until an unnamed man in a plain gray jacket shows up to dispatch the creature from whence it came.
