Sydney, May 17 (Ians) Batsman Marnus Labuschagne will not play in Australia's limited overs bilateral series in the West Indies as a 23-player preliminary list for the tour was announced by Cricket Australia (CA) on Monday.

Chennai, Feb 18 (Ians) Chris Morris on Thursday fetched 22 times his base price (Rs.75 lakh) for the highest-ever bid of Rs.16.25 crore in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) history as Rajasthan Royals (Rr) picked the South African fast bowling all-rounder after an intense bidding war with Punjab Kings at an auction here.
Yuvraj Singh had held the previous all-time record with Rs.16 crore, which Delhi Daredevils had paid him in 2015. And the highest ever bid for a foreigner was Rs.15.5 crore, which the Kolkata Knight Riders paid to buy Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins last year.
Morris, 33, who bagged 11 wickets in nine matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) in 2020 Ipl, shattered both records in one shot.
In all, eight franchises spent Rs.145.30 crore to buy 57 players, including 22 from overseas, at the auction that, as expected, turned out to be a bowler-friendly one. Five of the top eight buys being either bowlers or bowling all-rounders.

Melbourne, Dec 25 (Ians) Stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane will lead a depleted India into the second Test starting Saturday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (McG), the venue where they sealed their historic Test series in 2018-19.
The challenge this time is huge not just because of the demoralising eight-wicket loss India suffered in the first Test after getting shot out for 36 in the first Test in Adelaide but also because of the absence of four of the star performers from the 2018 Boxing Day Test team.
While skipper Virat Kohli (82 in first innings) is back in India to attend the birth of his child, Rohit Sharma (63 not out) is under quarantine and can't play. Pace bowlers Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami are out due to injuries.

Ball will leave South Africa on Thursday, where he has been a member of England's white-ball tour squad, and will join the defending Bbl champions post Christmas once he has completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine period.
His signing comes after England teammate Tom Curran requested a release from his Sixers contract for this season due to fatigue associated with travelling and playing within bio-security restrictions.

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) A well compiled half century from Kl Rahul and a late onslaught from Ravindra Jadeja helped India post a 162-run target for Australia in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
Put into bat, India didn't have a great start as they lost a wicket early in the innings. Shikhar Dhawan was undone by a brilliant outswinger in the third over bowled by Mitchell Starc and went back to the pavilion after scoring just one.
Skipper Virat Kohli, who came into bat next, then stitched a nice, little partnership with Rahul and took the Indian score to 48. Just when the scoring rate seemed to be going up, Mitchell Swepson got the priced scalp of Kohli who was caught & bowled by the leg-spinner at his individual score of 9.

Canberra, Dec 4 (Ians) Australia skipper Aaron Finch on Friday won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the first T20I of the three-match series at the Manuka Oval.
D'Arcy Short will open the innings alongside Finch, the Australia skipper informed.
"It's been quite a big build-up anyway (for the T20 World Cup). We don't have many changes, Short opens the batting, (Matthew) Wade bats at three," Finch said.
The Australian team is wearing an indigenous jersey to pay tribute to country's indigenous people. The jersey has been designed by Kirrae Whurrong woman Aunty Fiona Clarke, great great-grand daughter of Grongarrong (Mosquito), who was one of the members of the team that played in England in 1868, designed the original Walkabout Wickets artwork that will feature on the front of the playing shirt.
It has been co-designed by Courtney Hagen, Butchulla and Gubbi Gubbi woman and Cricket Australia's Indigenous Engagement Specialist.

Canberra, Dec 3 (Ians) After registering a morale-boosting win over Australia in the third and final Odi to avoid a series whitewash, the Indian team will take on the hosts in first of the three T20Is to be played at the Manuka Oval on Friday.
India will, however, miss the services of pace bowler Shardul Thakur who was the standout bowler in Wednesday's Odi, picking three wickets including that of Steve Smith, to help his side win by 13 runs.
The Indian team management has made it clear that players from only the T20I squad, originally selected, will be picked for the three-match series which means that apart from Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav -- who contained the Aussies with one for 57 and Shubman Gill, who impressed with a 39-ball 33 as opener, both performances coming on Wednesday -- cannot feature in the T20 team unless there is injury concern to one of the main players.

Canberra, Dec 2 (Ians) India skipper Virat Kohli on Wednesday won the toss and elected to bat in the third and final Odi against Australia to be played at the Manuka Oval.
Left-arm pacer T Natarajan is making his international debut for India and he replaces Mohammed Shami. Besides that, India have made three other changes -- Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav have replaced Mayank Agarwal, Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal in the playing XI.
"We will bat first. It looks a nice wicket and the last time we played here it was a really good wicket to bat on. We want to bat well and put the opposition under pressure. We need to improve the body language and the bowling as well," Kohli said.
"It's a result of us not being consistent in the last two games, we are going to try a few things tonight and see how it goes,...

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) The depth in Australia's bench when it comes to all-rounders was quite evident on Sunday when Moises Henriques stepped in to replace an injured Marcus Stoinis and performed crucial roles first as a bowler and then as a fielder.
The 33-year-old bowling all-rounder returned with the best economy rate among Australians, conceding 4.9 runs and over and picking the key wicket of Shreyas Iyer who was building a strong partnership with India captain Virat Kohli. Henriques then plucked a catch out of thin air at short mid-wicket to send Kohli (89) back.
Henriques said that the key to bowl on the wicket was accuracy even with the change of pace. He said that he bowled an in-between length.
"(I had to) take the pace off the ball by rolling fingers on it, bowl in right areas accurately, hit the right length -- the in-between length. A length where you...

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) While it may have been tough for fielders from both sides to pick high catches due to windy conditions as well as crowds in the background, the Australians were a step ahead on the field when it came to ground fielding. Not only did they stop more runs than India in the outfield, they pulled off some good catches to disturb India's run chase.
All-rounder Moises Henriques, who was playing an Odi after a gap of over three years, took a diving catch at short mid-wicket to send back Indian skipper Virat Kohli who was looking good and anchoring India's chase. Kohli was on 89 when he was dismissed. India still needed 165 runs in just over 15 overs when Kohli was dismissed.
However, Henriques said that the wicket was important enough to give his team a bit of relief.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) Steve Smith on Sunday continued his prolific run as he smashed yet another hundred against India to help Australia post a gigantic 390-run target for the Men in Blue in the second Odi at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Electing to bat, Australia once again had a great start as skipper Aaron Finch and David Warner made most of the batting friendly conditions and amassed 142 runs for the opening wicket. Finch was the first wicket to fell in the 23rd over as he went back to the pavilion after contributing with 60 runs, which included six 4s and a six.
However, Warner continued from the other end and looked all set for a well-deserved century before Shreyas Iyer's brilliance in the outfield saw the left-handed batsman getting run-out at his individual score of 83, an innings studded with seven 4s and three 6s.

Sydney, Nov 29 (Ians) Australia captain Aaron Finch on Sunday won the toss and elected to bat in the second Odi of the ongoing three-match series against India at the Sydney Cricket Ground (Scg).
Australia have been forced to replace injured all-rounder Marcus Stoinis with Moises Henriques.
"We are going to bat. Stoinis is out, a little bit of niggle. Moises Henriques replaces him. It's the overs he can give us. The wicket can get slower as the game goes on," Finch said.
India, on the other hand, have stuck to the same team that played in the first Odi which Australia won by 66 runs on Friday.
"We were a bit rusty in the first game but there are no excuses. After the 30 over mark, the bodies started to stiffen up. The second half was very encouraging," said India skipper Virat Kohli talking about the first game.
"We can take a lot of positives from that.

New Delhi, Nov 27 (Ians) Australia's pace-bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis limped off the field during his seventh over -- 33rd of the innings -- of the first Odi against India on Friday, after helping Australia contain the Indian batsman at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Stoinis, whose quota of 10 overs, was completed by off-spinner Glenn Maxwell.
The Aussies, however, don't have to fret on as they plenty of all-round options who can replace him.
Cameron Green, Moises Henriques and Daniel Sams are on the bench and Australia batsman Steve Smith spoke very highly of Green who he faced for the first time in the nets ahead of Friday's day-night match.
"I don't know, I haven't seen him. Fingers crossed he is okay," said Steve Smith about Marcus Stoinis while speaking to reporters on Friday.
But Smith, who made a 66-ball 105 to help Australia win, said that someone has to come in and it could be Green.

New Delhi, Nov 25 (Ians) India will have their backs to the wall if even a couple of their bowlers fail to click during the three-game Odi series that begins on Friday in Sydney. The Virat Kohli-led tourists have a severe shortage of options in batsmen who can bowl or bowlers who can bat, with only Ravindra Jadeja being a proper all-rounder.
Hardik Pandya, who is touring, cannot bowl as he is yet to reach fitness for a bowler and would most likely play only as a batsman, like he did in the Indian Premier League (Ipl) for champions Mumbai Indians. Even if he is played as an all-rounder, he hasn't had overs under his belt to be forced to bowl in Australia's trying conditions.
India had faced similar problems in February this year in the three-odi series in New Zealand as they failed to defend totals twice,...

Melbourne, Nov 12 (Ians) Australia have included youngsters Will Pucovski and Cameron Green in their 17-man squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.
Sean Abbott, Mitchell Swepson and Michael Neser are other players who have found a place in the squad and could be in line for a Test debut when the four-Test series begins on December 17 in Adelaide.
"What we saw in the opening rounds of the Marsh Sheffield Shield were a number of players performing exceptionally well," said Cricket Australia national selector Trevor Hohns said Thursday.
"Two of those many standout players were of course Cameron Green and Will Pucovski. Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent," he added.
