“I want to be in the Army.” That statement prompted a frantic phone call from my ex-wife, and an entire series of conversations. It also inspired a very particular screening of a very particular film, one in a series of recent screenings that have spoken to Toshi’s developing interests in both history and Hollywood. While movies are very important to Toshi, they are less important than Allen, and I suspect there will come a time where I lose Allen to other interests. That’s fine with me. Whatever he’s interested in and excited by, I’ll encourage him. Right now, his interests are more in games and puzzles and building things. Minecraft is pretty much the perfect intersection of all of Allen’s energies. As a result, when I am picking things that we’re all going to watch together, I find myself going mainstream and populist and easy.

On Sunday, January 24th, Fox will bring back Chris Carter’s brilliant series, The X-Files, for a six-episode revival run that will reunite beloved FBI Special Agents Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) for more alien-related exploits.
The last time we saw The X-Files on the airwaves during its initial run was back in May 2002, so if you watched the series throughout its nine seasons, you may be in need of a refresher on all the key players and integral storylines that make up the core mythology of The X-Files.
Mythology in regards to The X-Files could mean various things: the existence of aliens and how our government plays into that, various characters that fit in with different prophecies, the “Black Oil” that became a prominent antagonistic force during season three, the various conspirators and their attempts to derail Mulder and Scully’s work on the X-Files, Scully’s...

Depp claims Native American heritage, but I don't care whether he can prove it or not. His cred is his talent as an actor
When I first saw the picture of Depp playing Tonto which producer Jerry Bruckheimer sneak-tweeted last week, I was, of course, giddy as always to see Depp, because I have been a fan for most of my life. I am one of those women who feels like they "discovered" him because they have been following his career since the original 21 Jump Street. And now, as Tonto: the make-up was fierce and the head-dress a bit odd – I mean, it is a bird – but it was still "my" Johnny Depp.
I knew when that picture, with a head-dress by a costume designer and face-paint by a make-up artist, surfaced, that there was going to be a stir – an uprising, perhaps – among the American Indian community's social networks.

Dances With Wolves star Floyd 'Red Crow' Westerman has died from complications of leukemia. He was 71. The Native American actor and folk singer was working right up to his death, teaming up with Dances With Wolves star Kevin Costner again in new movie Swing Vote this year. In Costner's acclaimed wilderness film, Westerman played Sioux leader Ten Bears. His musical career included albums like A Tribute To Johnny Cash, which was released in 2006, and collaborations with Willie Nelson and Bonnie Raitt, among others. As well as appearing in Dances With Wolves, Westerman also scored a film credit in The Doors, in which he played Jim Morrison's spirit guide. A keen environmental activist, Westerman also toured the world with Sting a decade ago, raising cash for rainforest preservation.
