Golf’s final major of 2023, The Open Championship (or the British Open as we call it in the States) takes place at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England, for its 151st edition July 20-23. Australia’s Cameron Smith (pictured) won the Claret Jug last year. He had an emotional parting with the trophy this week, though he says it’s only temporary. Top contenders this year include 2023 Masters champion Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, 2023 PGA Championship winner Brooks Koepka and 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark. USA Network and NBC air The Open on TV, with streaming coverage available on Peacock, NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app. Mike Tirico hosts the broadcast and also does play-by-play duty for his 25th Open, rotating with Dan Hicks, Terry Gannon and Steve Sands. Analysts are Paul Azinger, Nick Faldo, Brad Faxon and John Cook.

The CW is officially getting into the Liv Golf business.
The Nexstar-owned broadcast network has signed a multi-year deal with the startup golf association, which is backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
Under the terms of the deal The CW will air 14 Liv Golf events in 2023, beginning with a tournament to be held in Mexico Feb. 24-26. The tournaments will air live on The CW and stream on the CW app on Saturdays and Sundays, with the Friday matches streaming on the app.
The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that the two sides were “very close” to a deal.
Notably, Liv Golf will continue to produce its own event coverage for the 2023 tournament season (it produced the 2022 season, which it streamed on its YouTube channel). Arlo White will return as play-by-play host with David Feherty and Jerry Foltz serving as analysts.

After a rocky rollout, the Liv Golf tour is closing in on its first U.S. national TV deal.
A source familiar with the talks tells The Hollywood Reporter that the Saudi Arabia-backed golf tour is “very close” to a TV deal with The CW, the broadcast network now owned by local TV giant Nexstar. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount also have small stakes in the network.
Specific details of the deal are not yet known (after initially asking for rights fees like other leagues and tours such as the PGA, NBA and NFL receive, Liv is said to have been open to more of a revenue-sharing model), but would nonetheless mark a significant move for the tour, which has waged a bitter public battle with the PGA over the last year or so.
The CW had not returned a request for comment as of writing.
