The kids of Degrassi had their own high school reunion last night! Before being known as Drake, Aubrey Graham made a name for himself as a Canadian actor starring on the Noggin series "Degrassi: The Next Generation." The rapper played Jimmy Brooks on the series, a basketball player who ended up in a wheelchair after a school shooting left him paralyzed. While he left the show in 2007, Drake met up with a trio of his former costars on Wednesday night at the Toronto screening of the new series "We Are Disorderly." At the event, he was seen taking photos with Daniel Clark (Sean Cameron), Adam Ruggiero (Maro Del Rossi) and Lauren Collins (Paige Michalchuk). The series they were supporting is directed by Samir Rehem, who directed a ton of "Degrassi" episodes, and written by Mazin Elsadig, who played Damian on the Noggin show. This is the second mini-"Degrassi" reunion in the past week,...

There was a time when any announcement about a Chuck Palahniuk book being adapted for the big screen might have seemed exciting, but 12 years after the release of Fight Club, I'm starting to think that some of the luster has worn off. I was a fan of Chucky P.'s earlier work, but somehow it seems that the more he branches out and experiments with his writing, the more his edginess is beginning to feel forced. After Clark Gregg turned in a serviceable yet ultimately bland version of Choke, it reinforced the fact that without someone like David Fincher at the helm, his books do not automatically become cinematic masterpieces. Now Palahniuk's third book Invisible Monsters is about to make the jump to the screen, and the man who will make it happen is TV director Samir Rehem (Degrassi: The Next Generation, Skins). Yay? Invisible Monsters was Palahniuk's third published book,...

Chuck Palanhiuk's third novel, Invisible Monsters , has finally found a director. The project has been in the works for ten years after the success of Fight Club. According to IFC, producer Cameron MacLaren announced that Samir Rehem has been hired to helm the film. Rehem is known for his work on TV shows such as, Degrassi: The Next Generation and the American version of Skins.
The novel tells the story of "a male-to-female transsexual and a former fashion model that is now missing the bottom half of her face. Together, the two embark on a road trip together, during which they encounter Palahniuk's signature sensationalism."
This sounds like a rather interesting story that could only come from the mind of Palahniuk. Fincher did a fabulous job of adapting Fight Club. I also enjoyed Choke, so this is a film I am interested in. What are your thoughts on this news?...

There's almost always a Chuck Palahniuk adaptation in the works somewhere at some point, with the most recent being Snuff getting cast. But now IFC.com is reporting that there's a big update on an upcoming adaptation of Invisible Monsters, specifically that the project has finally found a director named Samir Rehem. He's a Canadian director mostly known for Made... The Movie and work on "Degrassi: The Next Generation" and MTV's "Skins", so let's hope he steps up his game. The challenge is in adapting, because it's about Shannon, an ex-model who is missing her lower jaw, and her transsexual friend. Bring it on, Rehem! IFC reports that this update came straight from the producer on Invisible Monsters, named Cameron MacLaren, whose choice of director, they imply, was a hint at the direction they're going. "Fresh-faced high-schoolers they are not, but the characters of Invisible Monsters could benefit from the...

Cult author Chuck Palahniuk’s debut novel Fight Club went on to become one of the greatest movies of the 90′s and beyond thanks to the insanely talented David Fincher; as well as some career best performances from Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter in bringing the writers nihilistic world to life. For the decade and change since Fight Club became such a home video classic, Palahniuk’s name has been highly sought after in Hollywood with his books been optioned left right and center. 2008 saw Choke get the film treatment and virtually the rest of his bookography on some writers desktop as a potential draft for a film.
Now his novel Invisible Monsters, on and off again an optioned property since Fight Club’s highest cult point in 2001 - has a director and looks set to start pre-production.

While Chuck Palahniuk maybe the voice of our restless generation, his books are quite tricky to pull off in a movie format. While Fight Club has gone on to become a classic, only Choke has been made since.
According to the producer (via /Film), Invisible Monsters has secured TV director Samir Rehem to develop the film. no financing or start date has been finalized.
Here’s the plot of the book:
Invisible Monsters initially unnamed narrator was once a beautiful fashion model. But only to draw the attention of her parents away from her brother, Shane. The narrator has it all until the fateful day of the accident where the bottom half of her face gets completely blown off leaving her with nothing more than top teeth and a tongue that hangs out of the gaping wound.
Now unable to speak and constantly wiping drool from her mouth, the narrator still gets attention,...

A month before David Fincher's adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's "Fight Club" was released, the author published "Invisible Monsters." And before you could recite the eight rules of Fight Club, there was already talk about a film based on Palahniuk's third novel.
With its graphic violence, explicit content and nontraditional structure and pacing, Palahniuk's work makes for difficult adaptations. Production on adaptations of both "Invisible Monsters" as well as "Survivor" have frequently stalled out, and the 2008 film "Choke" received only mixed reviews following a difficult birth. The fact that "Fight Club" came out so well is a testament to the prodigious abilities of both Fincher and writer Jim Uhls.
But now, after a decade of development hell, producer Cameron MacLaren has settled on a writer for the project: Samir Rehem. Best known for his work in television, Rehem has worked on "Degrassi: The Next Generation," as well as the American version of "Skins.

Chuck Palahniuk's novel Invisible Monsters has been optioned off and on since 2001, with multiple writers taking a crack at a script, and multiple producers trying to get together a cast and financing. Nothing has worked out, but in 2008 Cameron MacLaren started looking into the option. In March 2010 he managed to secure the rights to the novel, which tells a tale of "a disfigured ex-fashion model, a pill-popping drama queen and a sexually confused vice operative who embark on a road trip fueled by a radical new form of self-discovery as a means to reinvent themselves." Now there is a director for the project: TV director Samir Rehem, who has credits on Degrassi: The Next Generation, and Skins. The news was announced by the producer, who says he's been working for "the last twenty months" on the script, taking notes from Chuck Palahniuk on ways to both remain faithful to...

Despite having written many stories that seem to lend themselves to films, Chuck Palahniuk has only had two of his novels successfully adapted to the medium. The first of those is easily the most famous, that being David Fincher‘s Fight Club. Widely regarded as one of the best films of the 90s, it’s lived on to today through its smart script, but particularly Brad Pitt‘s iconic portrayal of Tyler Durden. (Who, ironically enough, is the cause of so, so many people misunderstanding the entire work.)
The other is Choke, directed by character actor Clark Gregg. Even though it boasts a fun performance from Sam Rockwell, it’s a mostly forgettable sex comedy, although at least has some nice moments throughout. Other takes on the guy’s material have been attempted, with a cast already having been assembled for Snuff, but how that can be properly told in...

After years writing an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk’s second novel Invisible Monsters and attempting to raise sufficient funds via his Toronto-based company MacLaren Productions, Cameron MacLaren moved forward with his plans for a movie version of Invisible Monsters by hiring Skins and Degrassi: The Next Generation director Samir Rehem to helm the film. Variety reported that Rehem joined what would be the third Palahniuk novel to be made into a movie after Fight Club and Choke. While critics have called the novel challenging, even by the standards of Palahniuk’s other books, MacLaren remained comitted to a faithful adaptation of the tale of a fashion model with half a face due to a terrible accident and her on-the-road friendship with Queen Supreme, a transsexual who’s one operation from becoming a woman.
