The Horrible Histories team tackle the early life of William Shakespeare. A funny family treat is the end result.
“Half as good as Shakespeare In Love”, is what Bill’s co-creator, Laurence Rickard, says they were aiming to create.
This whimsical imagining of William Shakespeare’s ‘lost years’ certainly pays one or two playful homages to that other less-than-accurate biopic, but its real heritage can be traced to Monty Python and Blackadder. In the fashion of the former, the sextet of main actors, already known for their ensemble work on Cbbc’s Horrible Histories and Sky’s Yonderland, share the majority of the roles between them. Each has a main role, and Mathew Baynton proves a lovably optimistic Shakespeare at the heart of it all. Yet it is the minor characters – ‘the body collector’ and ‘sausage guy’ being particular favourites – who bring this world to life.

Meet Valentin Gruener and his best friend, a lion named Sirga.
Valentin Guener and Sirga have been best friends for years. Valentin is a German-born animal conservationist who founded the Modisa Wildlife Project in Botswana. Sirga is a lioness that Valentin rescued as a cub.
Sirga, who is now almost 3-years-old, was orphaned just days after she was born, after her siblings were killed and her mother stopped providing her milk. Valentin slept next to Sirga, under the stars, for her first eight months at the sanctuary.
News: This amazing cat rescued her owner from a house fire
Recently, Dr. John Hawkins visited Modisa and recorded the moment Sirga is reunited with the man who saved her. “This guy is exceptionally inspirational,” Dr. Hawkins writes. “He takes her on game walks and she can even hunt on her own!”
New life goal: Get a hug from a lion!
Speaking of lions, watch Broadway's...

Toronto Film Festival 2013 Dates and Movies (photo: Pierce Brosnan, Emma Thompson in ‘The Love Punch’) The Toronto Film Festival 2013 dates are September 5 to 15. The Opening Night Gala film is Bill Condon’s bound-to-be-controversial The Fifth Estate, which is not a belated sequel to Serge Leroy’s The Fourth Power / Le 4ème pouvoir. Instead of the Power of the Press — which seems to have gone the way of the 20th century (unless you consider the Royal Baby an epoch-making event) — The Fifth Estate is about the Power of Technology: the Wikileaks scandal that embarrassed (and infuriated) the U.S. government and military by exposing their dirty dealings. Written by Josh Singer, The Fifth Estate stars Star Trek Into Darkness‘ Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange, in addition to Laura Linney, Daniel Brühl, Anthony Mackie, Moritz Bleibtreu, Peter Capaldi, David Thewlis, Alicia Vikander, Carice van Houten, Stanley Tucci, and Dan Stevens. The Toronto...

One of the leading juvenile races at Royal Ascot, the Coventry Stakes has been won by some brilliant horses over the years, including Dawn Approach last year.
The 2013 renewal of the Coventry could be won by another Irish horse and one that has plotted an almost identical course to Dawn Approach en route to this race at that.
Aidan O’Brien’s Stubbs (7/2) has been impressive so far this season and already looks like he could be tough to beat in the Coventry. When you consider that at this early point in the season there is still a lot of guesswork involved with establishing the juvenile hierarchy that speaks volumes.
Stubbs won the same listed race Dawn Approach took before crossing the Irish Sea to win the Coventry last time out and he’d previously annihilated a twelve-strong field at Navan. He made his debut, like Dawn Approach, in the...

The latest installment of "Blood, Lies and Alibis" told the story of one of the most elaborate insurance fraud cases ever seen -- a case the La Times said was like an Aaron Spelling drama. Ohio business partners Gene Hanson and John Hawkins faked Hanson's death to collect a $1 million insurance policy in the late 1980s.
They brought in a third man to help them sell their story. Dr. Richard Boggs killed an innocent man by making it look like he had a heart attack in Boggs' office. They then passed him off as Hanson to the coroner, who bought the story.
Both Hawkins and Hanson took on new identities, with Hanson even getting reconstructive surgery to change his appearance.
One investigator said, "This case has been described ... as almost the perfect crime." But authorities wouldn't let it go, and eventually found a lead. A paper trail of phone records,...

A dead woman is found in a laundry which washes sheets for hotels. Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) bets on a "71,000 -1 chance of finding out where she came from. Mac (Gary Sinise ) "I'll take those odds." Given up before she's even started. Hawkes (Hill Harper) finds it difficult to determine the weapon and thinks the killing was personal and pathological. Mac doesn't see any signs of bruising. Mac notices the unique arterial spray. She was lying on the sheet and there's a void present, as if blood dripped off the side. In story 2, Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) looks into the death of a human statue, found by a Swedish tourist. There's money in the jar. Officer Lilly (Larry Gilliard Jr) didn't know him. Hawkes finds he wasn't shot or stabbed and he smells. Cod turns out to be natural causes. He was dead about 48 hours before being found. His beard was trimmed...
