If you disregard the Molotov cocktails which litter the set, then The Velocity of Autumn is a poignant comedy about a situation countless theatergoers can relate to. And yet the explosives that surround the set in Arena Stage's production of Eric Coble's terrific new play are symbolic reminders about just how hard the human spirit will fight to retain freedom, even as the human body confines us to a different fate.

The Velocity of Autumn by Eric Coble, which had its World Premiere at Boise Contemporary Theater in the spring of 2011, will play Arena Stage in spring 2013. Molly Smith, the Artistic Director of Arena Stage in Washington D.C. has signed on to direct , and Academy Award winner Estelle Parsons and Tony Award winner Stephen Spinella will star in this two-character play.

Winter is coming to Broadway. And so is Emilia Clarke, the Khaleesi from HBO’s Game of Thrones, who will play Holly Golightly in a new adaptation of Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s by Richard Greenberg (Take Me Out), opening this spring.
