Tuesday, October 18, will mark the 50th anniversary of the Quad Cinema opening its doors in New York City. Over the last five decades, the independent theater has established itself as a haven for cinephiles with its frequent showings of rare films, new restorations of classics, and indie hits. To celebrate the landmark anniversary, the Quad is devoting its Theater U to showing the four films that played when the theater first opened: “Butterflies Are Free,” “Play It Again, Sam,” “Slaughterhouse-Five,” and “The Gang’s All Here.”
Milton Katselas’ “Butterflies Are Free” tells the story of a romance that blossoms between a blind man (Edward Albert) and his neighbor (Goldie Hawn) after the man moves into his first apartment by himself. The film was an adaptation of Leonard Gershe’s hit Broadway play of the same name, with the playwright returning to write the screenplay. Eileen Heckart won an Oscar for...

James Franco is a chameleon of sorts. Perhaps more than any other actor in Hollywood, he’s constantly surprising us with what he does next. You really never know what Franco is going to attach his talents to and whether he’s behind, or in front of the camera, it’s always a delight to watch his work.
The actor’s most recent effort is Homefront, which sees Franco playing a meth kingpin named Gator. When former DEA agent Phil Baker (Jason Statham) moves to his town, Gator decides that he doesn’t want anyone getting in the way of his drug empire and sets out to wreak havoc on Baker’s life.
Like most Jason Statham-led action films, Homefront is a lot of fun and provides for a ton of thrills and excitement. Seeing Franco back in a villainous role is a real treat and getting to watch...

It’s time to wish a good night, good luck, and good bye to popular Disney property, Good Luck Charlie. They say all good things must come to an end and though I don’t know who they are, they are right.
It has been a superb four season run for the hit, Good Luck Charlie. The series and its stars have 100 episodes to their credit as well as a hit TV movie. Going out on a high note is not bad at all.
The Disney Channel gave the official axe with Deadline reporting on the exclusive. Production on the series will very soon, but though the cast will go their separate ways, you fans out there still get to see the new and now quite final episodes when they roll out and run through early 2014.

The good luck has run out for "Good Luck Charlie."
The Disney Channel says Season 4 of the live-action show, which centers on a teenage girl (Bridgit Mendler) giving advice to the title character, her little sister Charlie, will be its last. It remains in production and will have enough episodes to stretch into next year.
"'That's a wrap' will be called on the production after four years with creators/executive producers Phil Baker and Drew Vaupen and executive producer Dan Staley," Disney says in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "The cast and crew are superb, they deserve tribute for their work and we will look forward to the big finale episode the creative team is planning."
"Good Luck Charlie" has enjoyed solid ratings throughout its run and regularly finishes in the Top 25 among cable series when new episodes air. But its end after four seasons is in keeping with Disney's M.

Hammer Blu-rays The Devil Rides Out (1968, dir. Terence Fisher)
Hammer applies its trademark Gothic veneer with considerably greater care than usual in this, the second and best of the company's three stabs at the satanic stylings of author Dennis Wheatley. Christopher Lee comes over to the light for a rare foray as central hero the Duc de Richleau, teaming up with friend Rex van Rijn (Leon Greene) to prevent the evil Satanist Mocata (Charles Gray) from enmeshing the son of his old friend (Patrick Mower) into a devil-worshipping cult.
The Devil Rides Out is perhaps best remembered for what Lee argues in his commentary to be Hammer's most enduring image, that of our heroes fighting a series of spectral and psychological nemeses from within the protective confines of a ritual circle. And yet the most chilling scene contains no special effects, but is instead a simple conversation between the wife...

It's too early to compare her to Miley Cyrus or Vanessa Hudgens, but Disney Channel thinks it could have another star in the making and has given her the lead role in a new sitcom.
