Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Is there a movie somewhere hidden in there?
I wouldn't know. I litterally couldn't see. It was more of an audiobook than a visual story. Following the trend of modern film makers to make darkness much darker than the actual darkness.
I am not a bloody owl, you know?
But even what I just heard was not nearly exciting enough to count as a compelling story.
I was bored after 30 minutes and signed off.
Van Helsing (2004)
The dialogue is embarrassing
It's hard to believe this is from the same author who penned the wonderfully witty Mummy series. This dialogue leaves you rolling your eyes in embarrassment all the time, the over-acting doesn't help either. Overall a terrible waste of your life time.
Collateral Damage (2002)
Surprisingly entertaining
While certainly not a Terminator masterpiece it is a nice story that keeps you entertained.
Not predictable and not too unbelievable.
I could have done without the snake scene and found the fake face of Selena a bit distracting (she literally has no facial expressions whatsoever) but overall a good popcorn movie.
Catherine the Great (2019)
Incredibly dull and boring
Nice costumes, that's about it. The actors seem bored out of their minds, the dialogue is not helping their cause. This feels like a school report from a sixth grader. Avoid or take in lieu of sleeping pills.
Stargate SG-1: Politics (1998)
Really boring and unnecessary
Ignore at your leisure.
What happens in this episode:
Military inquest to shut down the mission and destroy SG.
Flashbacks that should prove value of mission but ultimately fails to do so.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Once More, with Feeling (2001)
Terrible and annoying
If you don't like people singing for no apparent reason, aka musicals, this one is a drag. I tried to fast forward the singing but there is hardly any non-singing.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
This did not age well
Man, is this a boring movie. It is full of clichés, lame jokes and all characters are the same stereotypes you have seen in every adventure ever. Beware that this is not a children's movie at all, just your run of the mill adventure film, just animated. To be fair, I only watched half of it, maybe it gets better at the end.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)
Boring, sad disappointment
While the first movie had a charming, if somewhat cheesy quality, the sequel disappoints on all levels. There is no flow, barely enough story for a short film, and no spark whatsoever. Add the sadness of the passing of one of the characters and you end up with a sad, boring mess.
His Dark Materials (2019)
Boring and uninspired
I had high hopes for this one after the movie adaptation from 2007 left so much to be desired, alas this series too doesn't deliver. The unmotivated cast is merely reading lines, probably while trying not to fall into the massive plot holes which are lying around a plenty.
The camera work is terrible, the actors' skin looks like they have been treated with an iron wash cloth. The actress who plays Lyra is as bad a cast as the movie version was. They just can't seem to find the right girl for this role.
I assume those who rated the show high are fascinated by the amazing story and ignore all the flaws. But one is probably better off to stick to the wonderful books by Philip Pullman.
Little Buddha (1993)
Does not age well
Enough was already said about the bad acting of Bridget Fonda and Chris Isaak and the miscast of the otherwise fantastic Keanu Reeves. I also agree with reviews that stated that this is essentially two films, cut together. I didn't mind the slowness of the movie as it suits the subject matter. What makes it difficult to watch these days is the terrible overuse of the red and blue filters that separate the stories. Not only the cliché use -blue for the cold, hard western world, red of course for the warm and cosy Buddhist world- but the strength of the filters is so bad, it hurts my eyes.
