Babel (2006)
I loved it ... but I will never see it again.
I loved this movie. It has everything a movie should have ... except explosions. :P Nah, seriously, I loved it.
I like this way of telling a story, the red thread, that all things are connected to each other (even if it doesn't seem like it at first). I also like that it's not too obvious. My friend, who I went to see this movie with, didn't like it. She didn't understand some of the things, and wasn't used to the jumps in time and place. I am used to it, I like it and I have no problems with it, so it didn't bother me.
The film was Beautiful (in filming, editing and thought) and it made me Feel. Not many films can do that nowadays. I have seen so many films that I am jaded. But nonetheless, this film brought a tear to my eye at some points.
It made me realize how much I have to be grateful about. It made me really really happy about the life I live today. And it showed me that I'm one of the lucky ones.
Although I give this movie a 10 out of 10, I never want to see it again. There are different kinds of good movies. Those that are amazing, and those you want to see again. I don't think I could handle this one again. It's a first-impression kinda movie.
And as that, I loved it.
Eragon (2006)
Pretty okay
I will rate this as a 6 out of 10, all in all. After reading the book, and finding in it lots of elements that I love reading about, I had high expectations. At some points, I was not disappointed. The effects are as good as one can expect, and I didn't have to stop and think "Oh well that doesn't look real at all!" once, as I often must do when I'm watching other movies. So a 9 for the special effects.
About the characters, I can't complain either. All the actors were convincing enough (even Mr New Guy, who did a better job than I thought he would); I just wish that there had been more time to get to know the characters. I know, I know, in books, there's all the time in the world, but that doesn't work in movies. Too bad. So, characters get a 7 out of 10.
Pictures and scenes; Loved the nature and the places, that looked good enough. Some images were REALLY beautiful and took my breath away. There were a few times in close-ups of people that annoyed me because ... well, I don't know the English words for it, so I'll leave it at that. Never mind. For the Looks, a 6.
Plot, well, followed the book ... kinda. Kinda sorta. Even though it was an eternity since I read the book, I missed a lot of things (again, I KNOW that they can't put it all in the movie - but I WISH). And actually, that was the only real problem I had with the movie. Too ... short. I wish they had put an extra 20 minutes in it, so that we'd get more time with the characters and what ultimately binds them together, and also to make the jump between scenes a little less ... painful. The sometimes too rough jump between different scenes gets a 4.
All in all, a 6, as mentioned. And I might also add that it's a good movie. I enjoyed it, and Respect to everyone who's worked on it.
Also, I'm totally in love with Saphira.
Frostbiten (2006)
Goddamnit ...
I had really high expectations about this movie, you know. I wanted soooo bad for it to be a great movie. Well, I was disappointed. I saw it at the Göteborg Film Festival, at the world premiere, and I didn't know if I was to laugh or cry when it was over. I was closer to crying.
Honestly, it wasn't a good movie. They meant it to be scary ... but people LAUGHED when it was supposed to be scary. Which makes it a comedy? Not really. If so, it must have been unintentional.
I do believe that it could have been a good movie. I mean, the script itself isn't all that bad ... when one thinks about it. But bad effects and MUMBLING from almost all the actors (I had a hard time hearing what was said, in like, half the movie!) makes it a bad movie. Easy as that.
At times, I just hid my face in my hands and mumbled "oh my god" to myself. Ashamed to be Swedish.
That's it then! No more vampire films coming from Sweden. Bye bye, future vampire films!
