Clockwise (1986)
How did I miss this one til now?
John Cleese does John Cleese. Brilliant 80's British comedy. One of those snowball effect movies that keeps you shaking your head, a bit painful sometimes, but also laughing out loud quite often. Sorry it took so long for me to discover this one.
The film has some beautiful English countryside scenes as well, filmed in Yorkshire. The monastery scene is nice as well.
John Cleese is his typical "Basil Fawlty" character in this one, but I wouldn't expect anything else.
This is a clean cut family movie, there is nothing even PG-13 (except brief naked backside of a young boy and John Cleese in his underwear).
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954)
One of my favorite movies of all time
Fun fun fun. It's a great comedic musical. Of course it's not pc, but obviously it was meant to be very tongue in cheek, and that's what makes it so funny
.
Play Misty for Me (1971)
Should be called "Psycho-by-the-sea"
Loved discovering this sleeper. Has an indie film feel. It will make you hurt the way Dave keeps getting manipulated by Evelyn (psycho woman). We love the beach scenes.
Almost Heroes (1998)
Silly, fantastic comedy
My family owns this movie, and we've seen it at least 15 times. It gets better each time. So many great lines, Chris Farley and Matt Perry play off each other perfectly. But each of the ecentric characters in the party are memorable and funny. The eagle scene, the Snake's Bend scenes, the old native Americans, it's all fantastically funny. I feel sorry for people who don't like this movie.
The Princess Bride (1987)
Perfection
Can't add anything that others haven't already mentioned. Movie perfection. My high school English teacher read this book aloud to us (1985), so of course I wanted to see it when it came out. The screenplay follows the book perfectly. Perfect casting, perfect adventure, paired with comedy and romance. There is a shortage of perfect movies in the world.
Blandings (2013)
So sad there's only 2 seasons
Just finished season 2... I loved every minute of every episode, although I thought season 2 even funnier than season 1. I like Jack Farthing in Poldark, and to see his other comedic side was perfect. I have not read the books, but will plan to. All of the characters are fantastically cast. I love silly humor. We will be watching these again, and again. Laugh out loud humor at its best.
