Days of Our Lives (1965)
Ultimately, Days is about forgiveness.
I started watching Days around December 2003, and I have seen a lot of actors, writers, and story lines come and go. The villains on this show, like Stefano Dimera and Kate Roberts, have done horrible things to the heroes. Kidnapping, murder, rape, adultery, and brainwashing are just a few of their crimes. Yet ultimately, villains will get their comeuppance, and they will be forgiven. If the villain remains on the show, they are ultimately welcomed back into the fabric of society. Things might be tense for awhile, but things eventually blow over.
The villains on Days are not black-and-white caricatures. Many of their actions are motivated by love and the desire to protect their loved ones at any cost. The best written characters on Days are the ones who do bad things for the right reasons. The best lessen to take from Days is to forgive. Sure, someone might sleep with your husband today, but they could be your best friend tomorrow if you can find it in your heart to move on and forgive them.
If you start watching Days, scour the internet for the histories of the longest running characters, such as Marlena Evans, John Black, Stefano DiMera, Kate Roberts, Lucas Horton, Maggie Horton, Victor Kiriakis, Hope Brady, and Nicole Walker. Read about their past misdeeds and their motivations their wrongdoings. Read about the good things they've done. Read about how many of their enemies are now their friends (or at least tolerated).
The ultimate lesson I've learned from Days is to be forgiving and gracious. You never know when you'll run into someone you dislike, and you never know what former enemy will become a friend. We're all interconnected.
Beneath (2006)
Wow, This movie is surprisingly good!
I wasn't expecting much, but this movie actually delivered the goods! In this day and age of "torture porn", it was nice to be able to watch a horror movie that actually had suspense, mystery, and and a plot line. Gorehounds, this movie is not for you. But if you enjoy horror mixed with mystery, suspense, and heartbreaking drama, this movie is for you.
Pros: Nora Zehetner, "Eden" from "Heroes" really shines in this movie. The rest of the cast is fine, particularly Jessica Amlee as "Amy" and Gabrielle Rose as the mean "Mrs. Locke". This movie has a mystery - not a body count. The score is haunting. The make-up effects are incredible.
Cons: The movie could have benefited from better cinematography. You rarely see horror movies shot so brightly nowadays. The camera captures everything you need to see, but it is done in an almost matter-of-fact manner with no flair.
