Death and Other Details (2024)
A Decent Watch
A bit slow and disjointed at times, but it's a fun light watch if you're into mystery murders. The show tries to convince you that this is a complex puzzle à la Agatha Christie, but it falls a bit short in that department.
Some of the details just didn't hit the mark, especially some character's accents being all over the place or just not too intelligible.
I don't mind the occasional sex scene but they seemed very contrived and just there to tide you over when the pace of the show slowed down. I loved the costume and set design though.
As a Maltese person I have to ask; why is everyone speaking Italian in Malta? Did no one bother to fact check the national languages before deciding to set part of the show there? Clearly some parts are filmed there so did no one notice the locals are speaking a Semitic language not a Romance language?
The Suicide Squad (2021)
A Far Superior Sequel
I'm very glad I decided to watch this movie in cinemas because it was an absolute delight. It's been a long time since I attended a screening where the audience were audibly laughing, gasping and generally having a great time together.
Hellboy (2004)
Another of Guillermo del Toro's Successes
As a fan of the comics, I find myself coming back to rewatch this movie every so often. The characters are masterfully written and well-acted, making them feel like familiar friends at this point. Speaking of character, this movie definitely does not lack it. I love introducing people to the franchise at every opportunity and this movie is a very fun first step.
Crimson Peak (2015)
Visually Beautiful
While not a movie that took my breath away, the costuming and set design are absolute masterpieces of gothic beauty.
