Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Criminal waste of talent and time
QT has committed serious crime in wasting Leo, Brad and Al Pacino. Two and half hours of utter gibberish going nowhere. Only one star for Leo to entertain us in his flagship acting in some scenes.
A Quiet Place (2018)
What a baloney!
I generally don't write reviews positive or negative. But this one really forced me to. I am utter disgusted with the entire thing this movie had. The whole premise is baseless, there are absolutely senseless things that happen throughout. You are hounded by creatures who hunt by sound and you plan to have a baby in the middle of all this. Give me a break!
IMDB ratings are being rigged big time.
Worst of all there I read lot of intellectual masturbation about the unerlying theme of the film as if it is akin to 'The Matrix'. A similar theme has been covered in a far better scientific and logical way in 'Pitch Black'.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Fantastic film
One word for Jennifer Lawrence - Watch out for this actor. She is gonna go places.
Amazing film. Builds up slowly but uniformly. Dialogues pack a punch but are not too verbose. They are just appropriate. It is nail biting till the end.
It is not kids killing kids kind of psychotic genre. I was very skeptical about watching this initially because of some reviews on IMDb. But take my word. It is not about kids killing kids. It has a very subtle underlying theme of a totalitarian society and how under dogs can bring about a change by refusing to play by the rules of top dogs.
And it is not gory. Somewhere on the lines of Batman (on a gore scale).
Next part is going to be interesting.
Hail this franchise.
Gabhricha Paus (2009)
cuts you from within
This film is without a doubt one of the best portrayal of plight of poor farmer in India. The debt trap of the farmer, the indifferent government, local politicians, moneylenders and last but not least the indifferent (as if it is not supposed to be) weather; how they all come together and weak havoc in poor farmer's life.
Sonali Kulkarni delivers her career best performance. I have been to Rural Maharashtra and never seen a realistic portrayal of village women for whom their husband is their living god.
Climax actually is something which cuts you from within and you feel that internal bleeding inside you. You know something is wrong but the melancholy slowly sips inside you and refuses to go away for a very long time.
The Fountain (2006)
Too abstract
Art is abstraction and abstraction is an art. Now 'The Fountain' is so abstract that it's difficult to fathom what the director is intending to say. When there is too much abstraction, confusion in the guise of interpretation comes.
But the lest we forget that simplicity is also an art.
This film confuses you and "it's the way you interpret it" is simple excuse to escape for simplifying what you wanted to say. Since nobody understands it, everybody thinks its genius piece of work. This a general trend with Hollywood's so called 'class cinema' scripts.
The only commendable thing about this film is Hugh Jackman. He is a revelation, his finest performance till date.
Bottom line is don't waste your time on this !
