Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Nah Fam...
I wanted to like, I promise I did.
BUUUUUT... it just ain't it.
No offense to Cathy Yen, she had no business filming fight/action scenes. They were so bland and uninspiring. Her overall photography looked less impressive than a show on TNT. And that's not a knock against the fine programming on Turner's flagship network.
Margo phone'd her performance and her fight choreography in. She was so inconsistent with her signature Harley accent and when she did use it, was vastly watered down.
That was NOT Victor Zazas!
I was so tired of hearing Joker's name evoked, it got as obnoxious as the directionless plot.
Black Mask was the brightest spot of the whole feature, then maybe that charlatan of a Cassandra Cain.
I can go on and on but I'll end this by saying, Suicide Squad was better.
Rim of the World (2019)
Fun Popcorn Movie for the Cool Kids
Was Meatballs appropriate for the family? No? Why not? It's a movie about kids, KIDS at summer camp. Yet somehow it's lauded as a classic.
Is Goonies over the top? You bet you bippy it is! And you got it, it's a classic!
How about the pastry banging coming of age American Pie??? That's an inappropriate teen romp classic right?!
This film is a clear homage to those and then some movies of cinematic age where women, minorities and children were able to express themselves on film like never before.
I am having a hard time understanding why reviews are panning this film when it clearly is playing to this moments demographic of inappropriate lowbrow comedy.
If the JJ Abrams or The Duffer Brothers had the fingers all up into this pie, you yahoos would call it, you guessed it, A CLASSIC!
Star Trek: Voyager: Equinox, Part II (1999)
Star Trek Voyager: Razor or Battlestar Galatica: Equinox
I cannot help but notice the stark similarities between this two part actioner from season 5 finale and season six opener of Star Trek Voyager and the mini series of Battlestar Galactica: Razor.
Two Captain's and their crews stranded in unknown space, trying to find their way home. One commander continues to uphold their protocol the other willing to break every rule in the name of survival.
Adama/Janeway are the straight-laced captains while Cain/Ransom as the battle hardened prime directive breakers.
Famed writer, show runner Ronald D. Moore was attached to both shows and I can't help wonder if this episode influenced Razor.
Star Trek as a whole was an influence in the reimagining of Moore Galactica. No food or supplies at the ready with the aid of replicators. No beaming down to new planets with the gene scrambling transporters. Battlestar is hyper DiY and as grounded in physics.
With all that said, anyone else see the similarities?
