The Darkest Hour (2011)
Meh..
Decent storyline and big budget but very poor acting, even on Emile's part. Don't get me wrong, I love Emile Hirsch as an actor! But this is definitely the worst movie in years. The 2 most annoying things for me were; 1. It just seemed like every scene where they are running, they are always crouched/bending over to avoid being seen even though there really is no point to that since those things can detect the electric pulse their bodies emits, and 2. The Australian girl was running around in her heels until she died(which, can I say, I was pretty happy to see. She was just getting on my nerves). I'm no woman, but my ex used to complain about being in her heels for 2 - 3 hours.. and she didn't even run in them. She had a perfectly good chance to change them. I know its a sci-fi and the storyline is pretty far fetched and unrealistic but its little things like that which make a movie more believable.
Also can someone tell me how in the world did that cracked piece of alien armor manage to blow up the alien on the bus? All in all, it was a pretty bad movie! Wouldn't recommend to anybody!
The Divide (2011)
My interpretation
This movie definitely has ups and downs along the ways of how rushed it is at the beginning. I'm no movie critic, so just bare with me.
The scenes up to about half way through the movie seemed, for lack of a better word, rushed? I don't know about you guys but all the post-apocalyptic movies I've seen, they have portrayed the first half of the movie to be a slow and tedious battle to keep sane whilst being cooped up in such a small space with a group of strangers. Where as in this, it was all very rushed and most of the time it didn't make sense.
Having said that, I did thoroughly enjoy the movie! The soundtrack was amazing, and if you're like me, the soundtrack plays a huge part in the watch-ability of a movie. The acting was pretty decent too, in most cases it was better than A lot of the "A" grade actors. Towards the end of the movie you start to get a feeling of a sort of "shortness of breath" as the anxiety of getting out kicks into the characters a little more!
All in all, a pretty good movie. Would have been better if they spent more than a month filming it, but a pretty good effort none the less.
