Bridgerton (2020)
Surprisingly good
I do not know the books and came with expectations. I do love a good period piece, so seeing a diverse cast was odd to me at first. It did raise eyebrows for me. But then, from the get go, you clearly see that this isn't meant to be historical: contemporary twist on classical music, unrealistic plot etc... and surprisingly it worked for me! I got mesmerised by it and couldn't stop watching. The characters are charming: Simon's super hot, Daphne very cute, the Queen! Hell that really spelt it: hey! This is fantasy and meant to be fun. It's really really worked for me. It's colourful and wonderful. For once actors of colour are not confined to playing servants and it's a good change. It's fun, it's positive, it's well played, it's imaginative, just give it a go.
You're Next (2011)
Surprisingly GOOD!
I was recommended this movie recently and I must say when I saw the trailer, I was sceptical! And well.... it IS everything I thought it would be: predictable, nothing new, but the way it was filmed and played actually made it enjoyable! The cast is REALLY good, the most annoying ones die early (so you don't have to cope with all the screaming for too long) and it IS GORE and it gets GORER! No real suspense, but watching that girl fight is just delightfully wrong! If you like pointless killings: Saw, the Hostel, etc... You'll enjoy this one! I'd watch it again! All in all, this movies shows that you do not need to invent plots with never-ending twists. The good all recipe of blood blood and more blood works just fine!
The Elephant Man (1980)
Unforgettable
I remembered watching this movie as a child. I was 3 years old when it came out but watched it a couple of years later at home. Although I had only seen it once, I must say that this movie had stayed with me ever since in my heart. It has haunted me, yet as a child it has introduced me to the notion of compassion in the best form possible. I remember crying through out the entire movie. Now, 30 years later, I decided to watch it again. Nothing has changed. It's almost too powerful to watch. I well up every minute. Finding out so long after that A. Hopkins is one of the lead character and that Lynch was the director is just a cherry on the cake. Never a movie has stayed with me for so long, and I am certain it will stay for ever engraved in my memory and my heart. Unforgettable.
Dexter: Remember the Monsters? (2013)
Very briefly
**** SPOILERS**** Very briefly put, this series final can summed up as such: Debra dies in service, Dexter gets revenge by killing her killer... with a pen, he buries her at sea ... (with all the chopped up bodies of the crooks he's killed before), decides to abandon his son to Hannah (who manages to make it to Argentina with Harrison) he then sails into a storm, survives, and becomes... a lumberman!
Most fans will be extremely disappointed by the lack of suspense, excitement, fear for the character to name just a few. I was expecting a fire work, twists and turns, but we got: nothing. A tasteless dish cooked up by some dried out writers. Most horrible series final ever.
Silent Hill (2006)
Annoying Movie. Bad filming. Couldn't keep my attention going.
I wont write about the realisation game/movie as i played the game too long ago to even remember the plot.
As i started watching this, I thought: *this is gonna be interesting*, the setting seemed nice, the atmosphere as well...
Then from 20min into the movie everything seems to be filmed in the dark. And this is where I got bored. You cannot see anything of the action happening. The filming is so dark, we can barely make out what is going on.
I spent 10min trying to adjust my screen brightness/contrast and so on, in an attempt to see something, but to no avail. I carried on watching for a bit, but this issue really bothered me. I could not enjoy the film because of it. At 50min in, I gave up watching it altogether. It's really annoying and boring to NOT see any of the action and just hear a woman screaming: help me! Help me! That is it.
Disappointing. Could keep my attention going.
My Week with Marilyn (2011)
Awful, Michelle Williams is disappointing
I found the movie dreadful to watch despite some nice locations and scenery along with lovely period costumes.
Michelle Williams is painful to watch. She doesn't have an once of charisma, and plays a dumb blond Monroe with absolutely no spirit or charm what so ever.
Monroe might not have been such a good actress, but Williams here surpasses her in mediocrity. She's bland and uninteresting. Her physique bares some resemblance to Monroe's in some angles, but in most of the film she just looks too grey and unhappy.
Monroe was fragile, but this is here portrayed to the point where it makes her looks ill.
Monroe had been married for 3 weeks at moment when the film takes place, she would have been happy and upbeat. She was also cheeky and mischievous and nothing of this transpires in the movie which focuses too much on her depressive side.
I had a very hard time finishing to watch this movie until the end.
A true Monroe murder.
I hated it
