Andrey Rublyov (1966)
Masterpiece for all times
Solonitsin is my ideal of man for all times. His perfect acting is so deep and touching. The Love scene with Tatar people and his girl - is the most powerful love scene in the whole cinematography even there is no any sex or naked people. Emotions are given in so intelligent way! In new cinema this is rare case. And also such scenes are relevant for contemporary Russia more than ever - Russian girls prefer to migrate to EU or US in order to receive fancy clothes. Final episodes with young guy trying to build in chaotic Russian realities are also very impressive. That is the best example of successful project management. Thank you, Andrey Tarkovsky! I love your Russia.
Kak ya provyol etim letom (2010)
Great film, I wish cinema industry will produce more such pieces instead of stupid Holly stuff
This film geniusly reflects the complex of difficulties existed in the relationship "humans-nature". Kamchatka is amazing place to be in Russia, Kamchatka in this movie is twice amazing. Dobrygin perfectly transfers quite common for contemporary Russia typical Russian guy image in the age of 22-27 - a bit disoriented in the space, introverted, frustrated, oriented to the pleasures of life more than on the help to other people. His acting is perfect and hi is hot. The other character is made also successfully. There are a lot of such men in the age of 40-45 who are much stronger than Dobrygin's generation because they experienced the market transformations in early 90s. Thus they think they know everything and often use authoritative way of behavior. The conflict of generations, isolation issue, nature and humans..These is not full list of topics highlighted by the movie.
Everything Is Illuminated (2005)
I expected more
The film is rather empty. I didn't like it despite all positive references here. Humor is rather strange. The story line is not definite. The main characters are not clear except the Jonathan. May be for foreigners it seems OK, but for people speaking Russian, film, people and their actions look strange. The only thing which is good reflected there is beautiful Ukrainian nature, fields, traditions. The scene with food is absolutely wrong, because a lot of people in Eastern Europe don't eat meat and this tradition has big history. Also the personage of grandfather is not clear at all for me. I expected much more from this movie.
Lilja 4-ever (2002)
Unrealistic film
I'm from Russia, my mother has been working for a long time with children from deviant families. I saw hundreds of such people and stories, and I have to say, that Russian mother NEVER leave her child. It's not in Russian culture. In this part film is false. Even alcoholic mothers try to keep their children, when officers from social services come usually. Anyway, Thanks Lukas M. for the film. Oksana Akinshina plays perfectly as well as Volodya. I saw a lot of Russian "Dark" films about the 90s, but this movie is the darkest in this respect. And yes, there are people in former Soviet Union who live poorly, but generally if you work you can live better. And especially interesting for me was to see Malmo scenes. Officialy, there is no prostitution in Sweden, but it is illegally. Who are these men who buy Liljas?? This question is more interesting for me. Unfortunetaly, L.M. doesn't give an answer on this question.
Dom Solntsa (2010)
Film about soviet hippies with a lot of historical facts
Great film with good historical background. I love it very much. Not much deep moral investigations but it transfers fantastic atmosphere of that time. It's not art-house, but it's not a simple Hollywood happy-end stuff in the same time. Actors are beautiful, especially the main one, playing Solntse. Old soviet hippies which were involved in the film production agreed that there were a lot of historical evidence in the film, the main character Solntse was a legendary Moscow's hippies hero. Soundtracks are perfect and make the film line to be organically incorporated in international hippies movement. I have watched this movie several times and highly recommend to watch it for everybody who are interested in the great history of Soviet Russia, not so simple as the media and some politicians promote now.
Mission to Moscow (1943)
Great movie
I didn't expect that Americans could have such deep thoughts, have such clever conversations. Thanks for the film to WB, and ambassador Davis.
My grandfathers and grandmothers have struggled against fascism, and the movie reflects the feelings of ordinary Russians existed for that time. I think they could be happy to see such view on their story.
Now I want to read this book. Unfortunately, we didn't know before that this film was existed. It's really interesting interpretation. This film is good even for now days to show the consequences of mutual international misunderstanding. Also I liked the image of his wife - woman who will is always near and can support.
