The Boys (2019)
Lousy third season
I could not wait to see the last season. Too bad was so lousy. Basically some civilians die and some secondhand superheroes. And in the end nothing changed. Never ending intrigue telenovela.
Would've been great if it wasn't so bad this last season.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (2022)
Star Trek is back!
Great scenario, awesome actors, beatiful visuals and the music is absolutely incredible.
After losing its way and becoming soap opera, ST is back.
First of all, one story for each episode (Discovery telenovela got me ao annoyed).
As any good ST, most of episodes are about some issue of our society. They present it and they come up with possible solutions for it.
The actors are perfect. Caracters are so well defined and it.s done without spending a lot of episode time to do it (again, unlike Discovery where most of the time caracters cry or whining about something... for 10 minutes).
The music is back. Not only is back but is greater than ever and in perfect sync with the action.
SNW is again about dreaming big, solving complex problems and, of course, adventure.
The team doing this series should do the rest and also the movies. They really understood what ST is about.
I am so happy that with this series ST is back on track. One year will be so long waitting for a new seazon.
The Orville (2017)
Shameless Ripoff
Couldn.t come with something original and they just copied Star Trek. It.s like they didn.t even try to hide it... just some wording. Even the bridge is the same. Really, was too hard to be original with that??
At least the ship is diffrent and looks to have engines in shape of toilet seat cover...
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Soap opera...
I.m a Star Trek fan and I watched all series (including animation) and all movies. This is not only the worst, some episodes are like fan made films.
This is basically a soap opera in a scifi realm. The fourth season was unbearable to watch. But like a true fan I had to see it. 90% of the series was about different people talkimg about their feelings or having some depression. Even when the galaxy has like couple of minutes left the crew spends like 10 mins talking about... what they feel about the situation.
The general feeling is like JJ Abrams or Michael Bay did thia series. Boring, without substance, moving cameras and lence flare!
I really hope this was the last season. Thank God for Picard and the Prodigy!
Glass (2019)
Not the end...
The movie is just an superb piece of the universe that Night creates. It explains more about the purpose of Glass and delivers fullfilment of this purpose.
I think people are wrong about Casey character being wasted, wrong about this movie not being explanatory or satisfactory enough. And that.s because they consider this a trilogy. I.m pretty sure it.s not. A glipse of what is to come is that fraction of a second when Casey looks at the cover of the comic book. Another hint is the scene whith Joseph Dunn in the gym.
One more thing is the structure of the movie. The major revelations in the end is that Glass deceived everyone so his plan would work. The thing is that the movie itself tricks you, distracts you from Glass.
IMHO the lack of focus on Glass in the first half is on purpose and this is what makes the movie so brilliant.
Anyway, I think it.s a movie that need to be watched couple of times to get all it.s meanings.
Lady in the Water (2006)
Refreshing original...
This is a highly missunderstood masterpiece. One of a kind movie among Night.s creation. One that requires patience and full attention. Unique(still in 2019) script, unique development of the story, well penciled and motivated charaters.
Allow it to get under your skin.
One a of kind fantasy story.
300: Rise of an Empire (2014)
A proof of how good was the first one
First of all, I voted 1 not because there isn't 0, but because this movies had some innovative visual elements.
I cannot tell much about the screenplay, just that it is so bad that at some point I stopped following it. If you had a strong impression about Xerxes, well, this movie shows you a daddy-issues guy that becomes a God and get pretty much womanized by this minion, 40 kilos, killing machine. He is pretty much pictured as an idiot with huge army and empire that gets mocked by one of his many commanders. Exactly here is the difference from the first movie! No one expects to be historically accurate, hyperbolize everything is you wish, but do not change the little we know.
If in 300 we saw one of the most intense sex scene ever on screen, in this one, it looks like a kinky dream of someone that never had sex nor watched some porn.
Why does Temistocle's men jump 50 meters (and not die) on Persian ships to die fighting bigger army instead of... throwing some rocks or fire on them???
Bad choice for Temistocle and other characters. I understand the "politically-correct" idea, but Greeks were not blonde with blue eyes! Anyway, in all important dialogs this guy has no mimic... it's like he is constantly amazed.
The Visual Effects are same great effects that we know, but with a small touch: a lot of particles that create a more in-depth 3D experience.
There are many other problems, flaws, stupid things in this movie, but I will remind just one more: Are we, humans, some balloons filled-up with Ketchup? At least this is what I understood from this movie.
The conclusion is this: I regret the money spent on the ticket and the 2 hours of my life that are totally lost!
Tron: Legacy (2010)
The return to art
I have to say that it woke me. I was expecting the usual... boring visual effects, the usual 3D thingy (probably an axe flying to me or some snow falling around me). But no, this time was different. I didn't even realized it's a 3D movie - completely forgot about it. How come?
First I amazed by the music as in couple of seconds I was totally "in the movie". It catches you from the first moments and makes sure you stay tuned till the movie finishes. Initially I thought it's yet another copy of "The Dark Night" or "Inception" soundtrack. Oh how wrong I was. I am listening daft punk for some years now. Mostly because I love the video clips, myself being a huge fun of anime/manga. But nothing extraordinary... until Tron. With this sound track daft punk gets closer to the league of classics like Jean Michel Jarre and Vangelis.
Then you get into the Tron world which is not pretty graphics nor cool visual effects. It's visual art. Everything is consistent, astonishing... breathtaking... beautifully simplistic. The good and the bad in simple colors.
I will not say anything about the plot as I wouldn't like to spoil it for you.
Overall Disney made a great job with this one.
