El orfanato (2007)
Nothing special
I've enjoyed original horror and suspense thrillers over the decades but this, disappointingly, isn't one of them. Acting and quality is what you'd expect with this producer but it doesn't go much further than that. The story and scenes were too familiar which wouldn't have been so bad if there had at least been something unique in the plot other than... kid sees invisible friends / mom believes / no one else does / scary dead kid with mask / they bring in the psychic / you get the idea. There's a couple of semi-shocking scenes but obsolutely nothing chilling about the plot unless you've been living under a rock for the past 30 years and the last horror movie you've seen is the exorcist (in which case you'd still never compare this movie to that one). See Pan's Labyrinth if you want to be freaked out by this guy. I loved Pan's Labyrinth but this movie did not do for the horror genre what his earlier movie did for fantasy, not by a long run.
Second Skin (2008)
A gaming documentary NOT for gamers
Funny how most of these gaming documentaries seem to pick their chosen few from players without even a casual knowledge of the games. This is more for people who want to laugh at gamers and be entertained by the typical drivel that drives viewers these days, for one, they spend so much time on romance in games which is such a small percentage of what goes on in an mmo. These soft-spoken, pseudo-nerds... bring out the in-game rants, the fights with GM's, girlfriends deleting boyfriend's characters, mom's fighting with their crazy kids, the pothead gamers, etc. To put it in World of Warcraft lingo: /lol /snore /rude I'd like to DELETE CHARACTER on some of these actors. Dumb reality-TV garbage.
Kill Switch (2008)
He's getting old. Hello?
He's getting old guys. The first poster, Aikido man, thinks he might get younger it seems. I think it's folly to hope for more action and meaner faces. All they can really do now is cash in on a name. One thing about Seagal is he never uses he feet much. Does this have something to do with Aikido or is he just too clumsy? He was on man cow the other day and all he did was his raspy heavy breathing thing into the microphone. Funny. And why is he such a nature nerd? Does that have something to do with Aikido too? Always beating up old white people with guns and sleeping with native girls. Hmmm, sounds like a political agenda to me.
