Tammy (2014)
Hilarious Comedy SO UNDERRATED
From the very first scene of Tammy driving the beat up Toyota Carolla down the highway, I started laughing and the laughs continued through the whole movie .... so many classic scenes..... I can understand that the emotional footing of the movie takes a turn that is definitely unexpected, but it becomes more understandable and appreciated each time I watch this movie..... and when the movie is funny, it is HILARIOUS.
The jokes are classic Melissa McCarthy - always delivered with perfect timing ... I still don't get the casting of Susan Sarandon, but even her performance becomes more believable as the movie goes on..... Gary Cole is a scene stealer, as always... as offbeat as ever.... Just watch this movie - you will be so glad you did 😊😊😊
Rich and Famous (1981)
BEST MOVIE-CLASSIC CLASSIC CLASSIC :-)
All I can say is watch this film, and if you don't have some jaw-dropping moments of self-realization and heartbreak at how this film so accurately portrays deep friendship, abiding love, elite intelligence, and the struggle for self-reinforcing confidence, well..... then you must be braindead......
I have always truly believed that the Oscars should have a "we missed this the first time around" Oscar to award to films that TRULY TRULY stand the test of time and show so clearly in later years that this film, these actresses, the screenplay... they ALL deserved Oscars.... and Hart Bochner.... well..... I'm 60 years old now.... but I remember like it was yesterday what my first reaction was to seeing him on screen..... I said to myself, "That is the most beautiful boy I have ever seen....." And he still is .... in that (thank God) perfectly and forever pristine celluloid format..... :-) This film deserves to be seen, appreciated, and praised :-) :-) :-)
Green Lantern (2011)
Pay Attention: Everybody Hated It EXCEPT the MOVIE GOING AUDIENCE (!)
Read the reviews.... over 600 of them and BY FAR most are FAVORABLE or VERY FAVORABLE.... this movie is a classic case of the critics getting it SO VERY WRONG such that it adversely affected the public's willingness to go see the movie. But, in hindsight, with video, streaming, HBO, etc., people have watched this movie for TEN YEARS NOW and a huge number of us LOVED IT !!!!!! I hope Ryan Reynolds visits this IMDB site and reads through the 600+ reviews, and I hope he gets over his dislike of and apparent embarrassment he feels about this movie based on that stupid director who apparently made his life hell during the filming of Green Lantern (but, to Reynolds' great credit, you'd never know it based on the movie), and I hope he finds grace and gratitude for the WONDERFUL movie Green Lantern is for those of us who love The Good Guys (Just Must) Always Win mantra....... not to mention his cannot-be-matched wit, style, and marvelous capacity to make us fall in love with him time and time again...... This movie deserved SEQUELS (as in PLURAL)...... it is a terrible shame that never happened..... GREEN LANTERN IS A GREAT, FUN MOVIE with INCREDIBLE WIT, a great love story (for REAL), and a WONDERFUL MESSAGE for young people. This is the kind of movie EVERY actor should be PROUD to be a part of :-)
Staying Alive (1983)
One of the Most Underrated/Misjudged Movies EVER
First of all, the best way to most accurately judge this movie is to see it YEARS after having seen Saturday Night Fever. This movie stands alone VERY VERY WELL, the music (soundtrack) is FANTASTIC, the acting is great (seriously), and the humor (script) is SO under-appreciated!!! This is a SUPER great follow up story to Tony Manero's success in the Brooklyn dance clubs; it doesn't over-do his newfound "success" in Manhattan and it doesn't under-do it, either. It is SO REALISTIC. It is an honest to God SHAME that people talk so badly about this movie. THIS IS A GREAT MOVIE. The only sad thing about Staying Alive is to see John Travolta looking so incredibly fit and handsome and to see what he has become after all these years.... I swear, the man was an absolute perfect physical specimen (!) Not that I'm much of a Travolta fan... but just watch the movie -- look at him in the movie, then look at him now.... Now THAT's SAD, but Staying Alive is a GREAT MOVIE and should be watch and appreciated with a new eye by the millions of us whose lives were so changed and so uplifted by the phenomenon that was Saturday Night Fever.
Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)
IMDb Rating of 4.2? That's Ridiculous (!)
Okay, so I never read any of the books and I didn't see the movie in the theater at the time of release - I also did not read reviews at the time (!), so when I was perusing the On Demand movie list and came across Fifty Shades of Grey, I thought OK, let's see what this was all about. Before the movie started, I checked out the IMDb rating and could not believe it was a 4.2 (!) Seriously. I mean, this isn't Last Tango in Paris or The Thomas Crown Affair, but it's certainly NOT a 4.2. The acting is just fine - Jamie Dornan is incredibly handsome, very intelligent, very polished; Dakota Johnson is absolutely perfect as a shy, smart, if somewhat naive female "object of attention". This is a 7. Not a 4.2 And the soundtrack throughout is just WONDERFUL. Fifty Shades of Grey is definitely worth watching if only to satisfy one's curiosity as to what all the media frenzy was about, and I can only imagine that the 4.2 rating comes from those who read the books and were seeking a more faithful adaptation or whatever.... Since the director was basically fired from the series, the movie clearly did not meet expectations of the author/fans, but, again, this movie -- just standing alone as a movie for goodness sake (!) -- is a 7, not a 4.2.
The Cutting Edge (1992)
Great Movie-Superb Dialogue :-)
This movie is one of those overlooked jewels that few paid attention to at the time of its release, and even fewer pay attention to all these years later, but if you want to witness SUPERB repartee - sexual tension at its purest and highest form, this movie just about can't be topped. Before actors started taking it all off and making everything so incredibly dark and over-sexualized, this movie created a deep web of emotions by means of incredibly clever, often poignant, dialogue that makes every single scene in this movie worth watching over and over again. I remember at the time it was released (I saw it in the theater opening weekend), I felt that Paul Michael Glaser's depiction of the actual ice skating scenes in the competition phase was disconnected and had no flow. I feel less so now, but whereas at the time that disconnect diminished the movie for me, it doesn't anymore, because every time I watch this movie, I am just more and more amazed at the incredibly clever dialogue between D.B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly. This movie - believe it or not - sets The Standard for how two actors should spar on screen. And any two about-to-be-lovers who manage that kind of sparring in real life, well, they are INCREDIBLY BLESSED :-) I hope this review will get a few more people to watch this wonderful, upbeat, lovely gem......
