Patient Seven (2016)
Stay away from this stinker
The only good thing that this movie has going is acting and that's the only positive thing I can say about it. Everything else is disastrous.
Most of the shorts were filmed during 2013 and someone had an idea to make a movie about mental patients who are telling their stories from the aforementioned shorts and just glued this one together. No, this is maybe not that bad and can't be called one of the worst movies ever, but the problem is that it's just flat, dull and it doesn't have an ounce of originality...
Maybe I'm being too harsh, but to me this one is just a waste of time...So, as one genre lover to another - pass on this one.
Conan the Barbarian (2011)
Remember people, this is Conan not Shakespeare
First of all, let's clear one thing - I'm a big fan of Milius's Conan ( 1982 ) version, but that didn't stop me from seeing this movie. Mainly,my strongest reason for writing this review is because of all the people that bashed this movie and hated it without even seeing it,and this flick certainly doesn't deserve this low score.
When I watched this movie I didn't have high expectations, but the most important thing here is that you shouldn't compare this movie to the Arnie's version, they are two totally different things. The only thing these two have in "common" is the origin story which happens in the first 15-20 minutes and that's it.
Overall,I liked this movie.Sure,it had few clichés and few bad dialogues which couldn't have been avoided, but as I said, overall this was a pleasant surprise.Remember,we are talking about Conan movie here,so you can't expect Oscar winning performances or certain depth of story. This is action adventure movie or sword and sorcery movie to be precise, and maybe that is the main reason that I liked the movie, because that genre is practically dead,so this was certainly a welcome addition.
This movie has all that you'll expect from Conan movie-it's brutal ( there are buckets of blood and violence ),there is magic, little bit of boobs, battles, creatures etc,etc...Certainly not movie for children.
On the acting side,I must say I liked Jason Momoa as Conan,I wasn't expecting to like him( having seen few trailers where they inserted that awful line "I slay,I love, blah, blah" ).Everybody else in the cast was solid, except female cast. While on the whole I didn't have anything against Rose McGowan's Marique character,Rachel Nichols's Tamara was totally one dimensional character and I really didn't care for her( cliché ridden character that unfortunately you have to have in this kind of story ).
This movie was doomed, bashed and trashed before it even stepped into production, first because of the director and then because of Jason Momoa. While I also wasn't thrilled with both of these choices,I gave this movie a chance...and didn't regret it,and I would ( if it ever gets made, which is probably impossible ) like to see a sequel. At least see it,before you say anything and see it for what it is-an entertaining sword and sorcery action flick.
7.5 out of 10 for what it is
Seventh Moon (2008)
Really nothing special
I must disagree with everybody who has written a review here ( 3 people to be precise ),and I will try to explain why it is like that.
First of all,to the all the people who have commented about this title I must ask a simple question: Did anyone of you ever watched more than two horror movies in your life?
So the movie is about old Chinese myth that turns out to be real and not a myth at all.The story is very simple and not very original.I have expected more of Eduardo Sanches since I liked ,,Altered,,.And to wait three years for something so average was certainly a disappointment.( Don't get me wrong,I don't think ,,altered,, the greatest movie of all time, but despite budget limitations and a few plot holes it was quite enjoyable and fun little b-movie).
The acting by Amy and Tim was OK,but my biggest problem was the look of moon demons( they were quite lame and ordinary in my opinion ).Some scenes at the end of the movie were a total ripoff of Descent by Neil Marshall.
Overall, this movie can be told in 2 minutes( I mean the story and everything that happens from the beginning to the end ).So the biggest problem of this movie is,like I said before, that it is so average it's painful.
While this certainly isn't the worst movie I have seen,it isn't the best one either. You won't be missing anything if you don't watch it,and if you do you'll say : Oh,well nothing special.
So since this is just an average movie I will give it an average grade 5 of 10.
P.S. Also for a horror movie, this flick isn't scary at all.
Yes,it's really that good
Yes,when they said they were going to make third part of Underworld movie,as a prequel, and that that would be done without Kate Beckinsale I was very suspicious about the movie itself and the overall quality of the movie.I thought it would be only step away from the ,, straight to DVD ,, type of movie. Then when I learned it would be shown in theaters, and that the cast is great and when I saw the trailer I finally felt relieved.
I didn't really think it would be good,but so-so kind of movie.Nothing spectacular,nothing original,just plain old fun.And was I wrong...
For me this movie surpasses Underworld and Underworld:Evolution in many ways.OK,maybe I need to see the first two movies again just to jog my memory, but I think my opinion would be the same even after watching it...
Let's start with the cast.First,Bill Nighty as Victor is great as in first two movies, maybe even better.Has anyone noticed that this is the role that was made for him,a perfect vampire in any way, just a joy to watch.
Next,Michael Sheen as Lucian.I think he really gave his best for this movie, which is kinda strange because this was supposed to be action movie. In a 90 minute action flick he gave more than you would expect, and if the characters were more explored ( which would probably result in a two hour movie or more ) he would be simply perfect...
And finally Rhona Mitra as Sonja. As much as I love watching Rhona, she is not Kate Beckinsale, but her character here was kinda one-dimensional so nothing spectacular from her,but passable anyway...
There is action, there is gore, and there are of course effects. And at the center of the story is a tragic love story and the fight for freedom...
Yes,there are some usual clichés and plot holes, and of course there is a problem of this being a prequel you know which characters are going to survive but it won't ruin enjoyment in this movie.
The only thing that is not clear to me is that I have read comic book Underworld:Rise of the Lycans from IDW just before the movie was released and the comic was exactly like the movie,so in a way I have watched the movie before it was released, and it isn't clear to me why would they release it before the movie?
All in all, great movie, not to be missed and one of the really great surprises from 2009 early movies.Go see it in a theater if you can,you won't be disappointed. P.S. Let's hope the next one will be as good as this one...
Night Train (2009)
Night train or Train of death?
I've watched this movie few days ago and...well I have to say that I didn't expect much from it ( probably because of it happening in train the whole time or because I didn't know much about the story or something like it... ).
Anyway I probably watched because of the cast...I consider Danny Glover a good actor ( maybe a little forgotten actor by the way...but good nevertheless ,Steve Zahn and Leele Sobieski are also great...
This is basically a low budget movie that looks like it's been filmed in one week, but that shouldn't bother you because the main purpose of this film is a story and it's characters.
Yes I have to agree on some of the comments that I've seen here on IMDb,this movie has some clichés and maybe few weak points, but originality is really rare these days...
So...I don't want to give the story away ( well, I can say the whole story of this movie in one sentence probably... ),but the events around the basic story are what really matters here.
I can't say that there is something generally wrong with this movie and I would probably give it a higher rating, but I can't help the feeling that I've seen this movie or similar movie years ago...
Go see it ( don't have enormous expectations though ),it's a good flick definitely...
First of all let's clear one thing...this is not in any way a horror movie...This is in best way mystery, drama and a little romance all blended in together.
Now about the movie...first the acting.Anne Hathaway carries this movie with a little help of Patrick Wilson. They are great together and they have a good chemistry. The rest of the cast is solid, but nothing more than that ( since the Hathaway and Wilson are 2 central figures of this movie ).
I must say that I was pretty bored with this movie and I wonder why have I watched. It must have been mainly because of cast, and although I have seen some of the negative reviews on IMDb,I decided to watch it anyway...This movie is really boring and the big twist at the end of the movie doesn't have any impact or shock value like the director probably intended...If you've watched more than ten movies in your life,or if you have watched, for example sixth sense,or similar movies, you will see this from mile away...
So in any case this movie probably wouldn't be seen by many people if not for its strong cast...and this movie has one really, really big and essential problem...ITS LACK OF ORIGINALITY...
four out of ten just for good performances...
I liked it a lot
Well here comes another, well, romantic comedy...but unlike all others movies of this genre, this is by far the best I have seen in a long while..
I'll admit,at first I wanted to watch this movie because of Megan Fox,and a little because of Simon Pegg...
First of all,if you have watched a decent amount of movies, you will know that Sidney and Alison would be together at the and of the movie, one way or another...but from the beginning to the end of the movie you won't know how...
Okay, now this movie is just made for Simon Pegg.I can't see any other actor in the role of Sidney, and I'm sure this would be a very weaker movie if not for Pegg's great performance.
There is a number of great gags and jokes in this movie that kept me laughing really hard, courtesy of Simon Pegg's character Sidney...but I think everyone in this movie is good. For example,Kirsten Dunst is really solid in this movie( I usually don't think of her as any more than an average actress, but she was really good in this one ),then there's Jeff Bridges, there's Gillian Anderson, and of course Megan Fox who plays spoiled bitchy star Sophie Maes...great role for her...
All in all, while I usually don't agree with ratings her on IMDb,this time I would completely agree with them...
Go and see this movie,it is really light-hearted and positive, and I recommend it deeply... My rating 7 out of 10...well 7.5 actually...
Iron Man (2008)
Okay, first of all,why this movie is on n.237 of IMDb's list of 250 greatest movies is still a mystery to me. Yes,there is nothing ( in general ) wrong with this movie, but that is just the problem.I mean,Iron Man is not original movie one bit,yes the cast is great ( even Gvyneth Paltrou looks hot in this one! ),effects are great, but all in all,to me this is just an average movie. The only thing that is great about this movie is that the title character is played by probably the most popular actor today,Robert Downey Jr.,who is just a joy to watch. He portrays Tony Stark amazingly, and even ads a humorous side to the character. Also I love Jef Bridges as an actor that I haven't seen much lately. He does a good job playing the villain in this movie. So if Iron man 2 comes in the future ( and it most definitely will ) I will watch it...but... All in all,I give this movie rating 6 out of ten,and it gets one extra point only because of Robert Downey Jr. Again I say, watch it and you will see that this is just an average movie, there really is nothing special about this one... Does anyone agree with me?
