America's Most Wanted (1988)
If there were ever someone who hasn't been rewarded enough.
John Walsh is one of those rare individuals who has turned a horrifying personal tragedy into an unmatched strength. I cannot thank him enough for championing the rights of the victims of crimes in a society that seems to care more for the rights of the criminals. This is a man whose mission in life is to speak on the victim's behalf and put the scumbag criminals where they should be. IN JAIL WHERE THEY BELONG! Thank you so very much Mr. Walsh for fighting for those people who have been victimized by crime, and for giving a voice to those who have been silenced. With more people like John Walsh we can take back our streets and live together in peace. I would like to think that this man has given a very large sense of closure to the great many people who have been the victims of crime.
Blazing Saddles (1974)
Great Movie! When not seen on network television.
Blazing Saddles is a truly funny movie. However, it never ceases to amaze me how anal retentive the network censors can be. Now I can see the need to edit the movie for some things, but some of the cuts are absolutely unbeleivable. Political Correctness is another for word for uneeded censorship!
Clear and Present Danger (1994)
Great book, rotten movie.
Every time I have seen Tom Clancy's novels adapted to screen, they have been atrocious. Being a major fan of Clancy's novels, it seems as though whenever they are adapted to the big screen, the writers botch the whole process. None of the novels that have been made into movies do the books any justice.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Now that's DEEP!
I would certainly have to say that AI touched a raw nerve or two. I really enjoyed the wide range of emotions that the films has. AI showed in great detail the kind of ugliness that both human and machine are capable of doing. The end of the movie was mind blowing! For those of you that have not seen the movie, please do so!
The Handmaid's Tale (1990)
In some ways a very frightening movie
The Handmaid's Tale goes a long way to show just what could possibly happen if some religious establishment were to take control of the government. In the movie you can plainly see the horrific amount of mysoginy and mistreatment of women that was commonplace in times past and is prevalant in many societies today. I think that the overall concept of the movie is good, but I think that the presentation of it could have been better. The characters seemed to lack depth and like other comments I have read, the directing was horrible. I can understand that there must have been some difficulty in adapting Atwood's book to movie format since the original story is solely from the viewpoint of Offred (the handmaid). I can certainly see that the screenwriters tried to stick to one of Atwood's main points in the story of the mysoginy and facism of the group that had taken control. The movie shows the wisdom of keeping a strict separation of church and state.
Dune (2000)
The Director's Cut of this movie is awesome!
The Director's Cut of this movie went far and away to stick to Frank Herbert's original novel. The added scenes which were edited for television for obvious reasons, added a great deal of depth to the story that would have otherwise left viewers wondering what was going on. The orignal version of Dune that came out in 1984 did little to stick to the original story as it was laid out in Frank Herbert's novel, and was a story that lacked any kind of depth whatsoever. I would highly reccomend that you see the Director's Cut, you will not be disappointed!
