Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008)
A beautiful movie, real artwork!
Absolutely beautiful movie! I discussed this movie with a friend of mine and we came to the conclusion that it was a love movie for guys. Bardem plays the role of a man every man wants to be like and everyone in the theater guy or gal was seduced by his approach to life and love. Nothing to add really about the layout of the movie except for masterful work by Woody Allen in choosing the settings, the themes and directing this superb cast. The moral of the film is interesting because although it is a light picture the reflexions it brings upon you are quite serious.
Definitely a must see that will be in my home DVD collection soon!
Tsotsi (2005)
Good foreign film
Tsotsi is a very interesting film. Although not new in its genre, it is one in which it is good to immerse ourselves now and then. Very accurate at directing the pain of its characters to the viewer, the film is a well mixed blend of intense emotions ranging from anger to sadness.
Another one of the film's strong points: The contrast it pictures between the very poor and the very rich of South Africa, the African country where this contrast is most visible. Scenes with homeless children in front of a background of skyscrapers and Time Square-like lights with BMWs and Mercedes cars bring to attention the cruelty and the unfairness of everyday life for the poor.
Kind of like "Cidade De Deus" not quite as complex and a little catchier but definitely a good rent.
Human Trafficking (2005)
The painful truth
This movie is a surprisingly well orchestrated little show of horrors. The movie does not bring new knowledge to the table but it reminds us, in an utmost graphic way, the most disgusting form of human exploitation: sex slaves.
The movie presents the path of four different young girls to this horrible fate and it will keep your consciousness wriggling in pain knowing that as we speak, these sex crimes are being perpetrated in our cities. A scary film that will make you want to hold your children tightly by your side.
The actors play is good and the performance by Remy Girard accurately pictures the suffering of a parent that has lost a child.
A gruesome yet necessary exposure to the facts of our society. A definite must-see, preferably not alone.
