Ricky Gervais: Armageddon (2023)
I like most of his material but...
Ricky is a smart and brave comedian. It is one thing to be edgy and smart but I wonder what feelings is he trying to stir up with this one. As an awards show host, he was awesome with the roasts. But joking about depressing subjects to just prove that he can is not enjoyable at all.
When I watch a stand-up show, I expect to feel good. I expect to disconnect from the sad realities of life. This one insists on pushing the ugly and sad realities.
I never encountered a dying child personally but when I hear the "joke" in which he includes the subject of dying children with the reference "baldie", I can not help but think how I would feel if I was in the live audience and I lost a child to a terminal illness. Does any body need to be reminded of that? Tasteless.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
I must be really stupid
I tried to watch this twice but could not finish it. What an awful, tasteless, senseless, pretentious pile of garbage.
The only reason I tried to watch it a second time was to try to understand what I was missing. Since most viewers loved the deep deep messages in this movie, I must be shallow and stupid.
I must admit I do not enjoy martial arts scenes very much. But I can tolerate a long fight scene if it fulfills a meaningful purpose in the plot. Even a meaningless fight scene with good choreography may be enjoyable if it does not take a very long portion of the movie. This movie takes meaningless fight scenes to a new level and sprinkles in disgusting content for added enjoyment.
Maybe I am not that stupid but I accidentally sent myself to an alternate universe where tastelessness is appreciated.
