Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013)
So unfunny it hurts
I'm sorry, I really tried. I actually tried watching this series since I saw it had great reviews, but I couldn't laugh at one single joke.
Firstly, I went to the first episode. I watched it all, didn't laugh, it's okay, since it's the pilot, it doesn't have to be great. I wasn't expecting much anyway.
So I go farther into the series through Netflix, click on a random one, yeah, not funny either.
I start turning to desperation and just look up "Best Brooklyn 99 episodes", watched the first ranked. The annoying main guy, the random edgy girl who acts like she's in Nickelodeon the whole time, the tortured officer who's partner is the first mentioned... I'm a person with a sense of humor alright, it's just that if the jokes here were planes, they'd all be crashed.
Project X (2012)
Hilarious, silly movie
People rating this movie as if it were an actual film with a deep message within it don't know about context-based rating... It's really straightforward, the humour is relatable. I liked the characters, they truly do feel like highschoolers you'd meet occasionally, even down to their want of having sex or stupid thoughts they have over women. It's not a movie to be taken seriously or to heart since it's silly and it's not advertised in another way, what were you expecting?
Only things I could "complain" about are maybe the numerous panty-shots, but eh, it makes you feel like you're really at a party, in a way.
Kimi ga Otoshita Aozora (2022)
Corny, in a cute way.
Not a movie with a lot of depth in it, but worth the watch when you have nothing to do and have an itch for a sweet thing to watch.
Albeit the movie's pacing being so slow (hence why I watched it in 2x), it really pulls at your heart strings from time to time. The protagonists' character grows as it goes by.
I was somewhat suprised with the end- the big "plot twist"- it wasn't completely unpredictable, but perfect for a mindless watch.
This is off-topic, but I was actually looking for another movie... I just came across this one... did I think this film is a masterpiece? No. Do I wish I had watched the other one instead? Not really, no.
Yakusoku no Neverland (2019)
A true work of art
My rating goes only for the first season.
It fills you with suspense from beginning to end of an episode, and you can rely on the characters to make risky yet smart choices: something that is seldom executed correctly.
Truly a breath of fresh air when they're intelligent- very satisfying watch.
Banana Fish (2018)
The anime that will make you say "that should've been me, not him"
When I saw this for the first time back in 2020, I promised myself I wouldn't cry... let's just say I broke my promise shortly after I finished it.
This story pulled my heartstrings like no other. I will never forget when I cried for 4 hours... and typically, I don't get sad over anything, much less cry.
The characters are touching. Ash's backstory is as well. Though the writer is a sadist.
I regret watching it. But it's a beautiful sort of regret, the kind that I will never forget.
Persuasion (2022)
Disappointing for a Jane Austen film adaptation
Even though the scenery and clothing is accurate and aesthetically pleasing to the sight, I cannot say I'm half content with this.
The protagonists' hairstyle is not accurate to the time period, not to mention the embarrasing amount of unnecesary references to today's manners of speech (for example, saying someone is a 10/10, along with some other quotes I cannot recall- yes, they were that forgettable)
The plot was all over the place, and I can't say I'm particularly a fan of the acting either... or the storytelling technique they use, which is staring into the camera. Pretty weird, imo. I couldn't empathize with any character.
The ending felt rushed (I mean, the protagonist found that one guy that asked to marry her kissing this woman right outside her establishment...? Completely anti-climactic, unrealistic and random)
They try making these films relatable, when the magic they hold is in the fact that it's completely external to our current reality.
I pray for a future where adaptations are taken seriously.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
A beautiful story, executed beautifully as it should be.
I absolutely loved this. The push and pull of the two leads, the side-story of the protagonist's sister and the indubitable chemistry, accompanied by great acting.
The feelings of the characters feel real through the screen, which is of great value to me. Not to mention the backgrounds and lighting fit the vibe of the scene, giving the viewer a true experience: something that films of this decade not so rarely fail to reproduce.
This one truly plays with your heart. It will not be everyone's favorite, (since it's based heavily on romance, I guess) but it's certainly my cup of tea!
À bout de souffle (1960)
Dramatically boring
It has historical importance, yet the delivery is a bit "meh" in my opinion. Some parts were a bit confusing to me (could just be the quality of sound I found, though) and unnecessary. Maybe it's just because the pacing is quicker nowadays.
In this movie, the soundtrack is the ONLY thing that left me breathless.
