Paper Girls (2022)
Interesting to see the graphic novel series in action!
I started reading Paper Girls several years ago because I loved the cover art work at the comic shop and it seemed to have an interesting plot. I always thought it would make an interesting movie or tv show so I was REALLY excited to find out they did this and it has good acting/lighting in it! I love that they kept the neon color going through the series yet made it seem realistic.
It's nothing like Stranger Things or any other buddy movie/tv show. If you like comics and graphic novels I recommend checking out the graphic novels this is based on.
Time travel, friends, nostalgia and good music? Yes please!
Pain & Gain (2013)
Surprisingly good black comedy by Michael Bay
I finally saw this recently. I hadn't heard of it until I was trying to find other films Mark Wahlberg was in. I had no idea it was going to be a black comedy at all so was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually a fan of Michael Bay but this is one of his better movies. All the leads played the part perfectly and they made a lot of good points/social commentary. Go in with the expectation to watch the absurd, some great acting but also be prepared for some pretty gross parts.
Romeo + Juliet (1996)
One of my all time favorite movies
This is my favorite adaptation of Shakespeare. It made it easier to understand the dialogue with the modern take. Everyone in it acted well, clothes interesting and sets cool. The soundtrack was awesome and I still listen to it sometimes. It has Baz Luhrmann style and humor so if he's not your thing you probably won't like this.
Morbius (2022)
7.5 for me. Some plot holes but overall really enjoyed it
I'm not sure why there is so much hate. It's definitely a darker Marvel movie. Everyone did a good job in it and I think the two leads were well cast. There were a few plot holes but the graphics and camera angles were awesome. It was a good origin story.
Dune (2021)
Masterpiece
They took one of the most complicated books to translate to film and did amazingly with it. It follows the book pretty closely from what I have read so far. Everyone did amazing in it. The costumes, makeup and machines were super interesting. I cannot believe the director didn't get nominated for an Oscar. I saw it in IMAX and the place was totally full. Everyone was glued to their seats and nobody talked at all throughout it. When I was done I felt like I had been on a non stop adventure. I can't wait for the sequels. Be ready to focus and for a wild ride.
The Batman (2022)
Some plots holes and over used music
I still think Pattinson is an average actor. He doesn't have much facial expression range and usually gets acted around in circles by everyone else. He was more convincing in an action film in this one than he was in Tenet. He wasn't very memorable though.
I liked the different take focusing more on detective and really good villains. The whispering through a lot of the movie and almost constant (I mean incessant) music playing took away from the film. It got really annoying and monotonous to the point I started falling asleep 3/4 of the way through. It probably could have cut 25 minutes out and would have been fine. The ending tied everything together well and definitely woke me up. I'll see the sequel even though I was reluctant to see this since I'm not a Pattinson fan. I don't plan on buying this and rewatching like I have with the other Batman films and tv show. The scenes, shots and sets were amazing. It was probably the more artful Batman film out of all of them. I have no idea how he didn't figure out many of the clues were about him so that also pulled me out of it a bit. It seemed a little overhyped and I think the only one who may get nominated for acting is Colin Farrel.
The soundtrack was the weirdest I have ever experienced. It took the theme tune and played it practically in every scene in some variation to the point sometimes I couldn't hear well what the actors were saying. I felt it took away from their acting and was mind numbing annoying. Pattinson plays broody in so many movies I guess at some point it has to stick.... This finally made sense for him but even in the emotional non masked scenes he seemed super stiff.
Joker (2019)
Very intense
This is a movie I can only watch once. Not because it was bad but it was so realistic, intense and spot on for current vibes in society. Be ready for a heavy movie and super realistic violence. I remember my sister telling me my brother in law wanted to take her to it for date night and I laughed hysterically. I said this isn't a movie for date night!
Phoenix was phenomenal in it. Everyone did great in it. I just wish they could pair it up with one of the Batman reboots.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Heath Ledger totally surprised me as the Joker
I remember being really skeptical when I found out Heath was going to be the Joker. I didn't think he could handle it or compare to Jack Nicholson. He surprised me and many others to create his own completely believable and terrifying Joker.
I am a lifelong Batman fan. I grew up watching the 80s and 90s films, loved the 60s tv show and have a subscription to DC comics online. The Dark Knight trilogy broke ground in the comic world and attracted a ton of acting talent, had amazing stunts and interesting technology. It combined various Batman comics. It made social commentary and made you think without being political. The only thing I didn't like was the growling voice Bale did while in the suit that got old sometimes but the villains were always scary, realistic and well acted. They were all critical and financial successes and also got nominated for Academy Awards. Even after a decade they still hold up.
Batman Begins (2005)
I loved all of Christopher Nolan's Batman films

Abbott Elementary (2021)
I hope it brings light to education funding
Everyone in it does a great job at their portrayals, comedic timing and bringing humor to really tough topics that I hope gets more people in America thinking about education funding.
Redeeming Love (2022)
Trailer makes it seem like a very different movie
I should have done more research on this movie. I thought it was going to be like Finding You with a mostly unknown cast and interesting plot line to make a different romance movie. This is a movie based on an author who has clear religious under tones. I could look past that if the dialogue was better, everything wasn't so far fetched and the plot line didn't jump around so much. Minus the main actress, everyone else is either just ok or cheesy at acting. The movie is so bad it made it my first film ever to walk out of the theater and ask for a refund.
If you're not into religious fiction this movie isn't for you.
Free Guy (2021)
Perfection
This movie had it all. It was more than just a "video game movie". There was romance, lots of action, all kinds of humor and the songs were perfectly placed. Everyone did a great job and it had a good message.
